    12000 points=~$60, the annual fee is $89…..hmmm…….

  • +1

So why wouldn't you get a fee free card instead of one that gives $60 of reward points for $89/$280/144 depending on which one you pick.

    Isn't this better? http://www.creditcardfinder.com.au/hsbc-credit-card.html

No annual fee and lower interest rate than the commbank card.

Or get a $195 platinum edge with a free domestic flight that can be worth over $300 that you can on sell to someone ;)

Better yet if you can afford it get a debit card and never stress about interest rates.

Is debit card a question of affordability?
I never ever had a credit card before but I personally find it hard to image people using it to spend money they don't have / can't afford…

Not sure if this is a troll post.

You've never heard of people getting stuck in a credit card trap especially when they are young? It's very easy to rack up a $10,000 credit card bill and incredibly difficult to pay off if you don't have much money.

Some people don't look at a credit card as debt waiting to happen, they think of it as money that they can spend then once it's run out they are stuck trying to figure out how to pay it back, many people refinance their credit cards in to home loans and such only to get stuck in the same trap again.

The best thing you can do is exactly what your doing, stick with debit cards and avoid credit cards.

        • New government rules say the statements must show how long it will take to pay off if you only pay minimum repayments and how much interest you'll end up paying.
I've never had a problem overspending, but I guess looking at the numbers might help those who do.

From my experience though there those that have realistic approaches to finances and then there are those that spend and then worry about the consequences later.

Credit card company's thrive on the later.

It's not a troll post, I genuinely cannot identify myself with people who constantly have negative balance on their credit cards and keep paying that horrendous interest. I cannot even comprehend how that might happen - unless you are fully retarded and cannot even use a basic calculator (?).
It always reminds me of fight club:
"We buy things we don’t need, with money we don’t have, to impress people we don’t like."

A CC gives you the opportunity to use someone else's money free…but you need discipline to pay it off in the interest free period. We use ours to pays bills etc and then do a direct debit to pay off the card before interest is accrued (+ it's a fee free card)….so it's like a free loan….sure, the % interest saved and the % earned on keeping the cash in our account till the last minute is minimal but ever cent you save is a cent you don't have to earn.

Because you may want membership in an Awards scheme and the insurances and other benefits that aren't offered on a no-fee card.

The $60 here is just a bonus incentive to sign up. If you use the card you'll earn additional rewards. I quite easily use my card enough to cover the annual card fees with points spare for other things.

Given I pay off my card well within the interest free period (of 55 days), the interest rate on the cards isn't a big issue for me. It'll no doubt impact other people more. In essence it acts as a debit card that I get additional benefits from given I use it enough to cover any account fees.

That said, deals that offer $100 cashback etc for opening an account with CBA are a better deal than this one.

  • At the rates they give you here in Aus you are better off getting an american card. Obviously this really only works for american expats with US cash, but with my cap1 card I pay no foreign transaction fee and get market (not bank) exchange rates. Not to mention I get 2% back on everything.

I just wish Aus cards would catch up to US ones and start giving me some good deals. Best I can do right now on a free card is the aprox 1% I get back in the form of Coles $$ using my coles MasterCard.

COMMBANK also recently changed its pts rewards system and is now the worst way to collect frequent flyer points.

According to Andrew O Kieffe "No Deal"

  • SPAM

    CBA cards blow chunks

    • And why was my neg vote revoked???

      Over moderation appearing on OzBargain???

      • This is SPAM

The guy makes money when you sign up. The deal is crap. It's the 2nd post he's done and both are the same.

The guy should be banned from OzBargain but instead some %$@# of a mod revokes my neg vote.

Who was the mod and why ??

        This is bulldust…

        • The reason was because you didn't give your reason for the neg, I completely agree that it's Spam and not a deal you've just got to say why it's a crap deal/spam and they won't revoke your neg.

I don't think you'll be able to reinstate your neg unless you put your reasons for a neg and then report it requesting your neg to be reinstated.

  • I've found the commbank card very good for included international travel insurance (also, it's effectively free with my home loan).
The award points can be used for price matching at myers at a reasonable conversion rate.

Screw the over-moderation on this site Neil..

    To quote the rules:

In essence the negative vote is a warning. A warning about being a scam, spam, defective product or a better deal exists already.

This is SPAM. Pure and simple.

    • Screw the over-moderation on this site Neil..

It wasn't Neil, it was me. Regardless, the reason for removing your negative vote was given to you in the report feedback. Any further issues please TWAM.

    • You've just got to explain why it's spam mate, the mods can't allow people to just say Spam and give a neg vote because it'll flow on until iPhone and galaxy threads are full of people who don't like the phones saying spam and negging.

Give a reason for why its spam be it because it's a normal price that's nothing special or you can get a better offer by calling up and asking or waiting until they have one of their cash back or fee waiving sales (promos).

I agree with you that this is spam, but the mods are just protecting the site from what could be a slippery slope.

I'd personally go for a free credit card, for example the Qantas one is free and can earn up to 7,500 Qantas points, although to get a $100 Myer gift card - https://store.qantas.com/Catalogue.a2?Page=ViewProduct&Produ… - it takes 13,500 points about $0.0071, which is better than the ANZ one: http://www.saverscene.com.au/credit-cards/8548-best-no-annua… - which works out at about $0.005 per point.

Other free credit cards worth a look: http://www.saverscene.com.au/finance/credit-cards/no-fee-fre… - rather have a free card and no rewards than pay for a card that gives less value in rewards.

    Regards
    Gav.
