        Done

  • is it multi-coating?

    • Not sure. Very new to this DSLR camera malarkey. Here is whats on Amazon. It doesnt have the words "multi-coating" anywhere.

Protect your camera lens from ultraviolet light while boosting your artistic possibilities with the Tiffen Photo Essentials filter kit. The kit—which includes an ultraviolet filter, circular polarizer, and warming filter—is an ideal accessory for photographers with 58mm filter diameters. The ultraviolet filter prevents UV light from reaching the lens, helping increase clarity and reduce haze. As a result, your photos look crystal clear even in mountainous and coastal areas, where ultraviolet light is particularly strong. The circular polarizer, meanwhile, is essential for outdoor photography, as it deepens the intensity of blue skies and reduces or eliminates glare. (Note that the circular polarizer is designed expressly for autofocus cameras.) Finally, the kit offers an exclusive color warming filter that improves the color of all skin tones. Ideal for portraits, the color warming filter absorbs the blue cast often caused by electronic flashes or outdoor shade, adding warmth to pale, washed-out flesh tones. As a bonus, the kit includes a pouch for filter storage. Includes: Circular Polarizer, 812 Warming Filter, UVP, 4 filter pouch.

  • Why this rather than a cheap filter with Hoya glass from ebay?

    • this is not costy. cheap hoya from ebay could be fake.

It includes a circ polariser for a start! Tiffen are also a fairly well regarded brand, more so in the US.

  • UV filters are useless, DSLR sensors are not affected by haze unlike film.
You'll probably just increase the chance of flaring and ghosts from having another piece of glass in front of your lens.

The only filters that are useful are polarisers and neutral density filters.

They will act like a screen protector for your $2000 lens which you probably don't want to scratch

      • +2

A lot of the time what you will find is that a UV filter will just shatter and scratch the lens behind it.

If you bought a $2000 lens, chances are it came with a hood and a lens cap, which does a much better job of protecting your lens.

        • I've cracked 2uv filters from lens drops. Haven't managed to scratch the glass behind yet..

Even if you don't believe in uv filters, you could buy some and just punch out the glass beforehand. I do this for my best lenses.

      • Same goes for sticky fingers, goo, salt spray, water spots, means you can go nuts with the corner of your shirt on a UV rather than on you nice L- series :)

      • This myth certainly gets repeated a lot.

      • Because you know…you want a $30 piece of rubbisn in between your photo and your $2000 lense to enhance the shot.

    • UV filters are good to protect your (expensive) lens from dirt and scratches.

      edit:beaten by 33 sec :)

      • You need to type faster then

  • So is this a good buy for my new Sigma 35mm Art lense?

    • I'd personally stick with Hoya HMC filters… supposedly less degradation in image quality. Not sure about Tiffen but a test a while back showed Hoya HMC filters to be top performers.

      • Hoya's are top quality but they also come with a suitable price tag.
There's nothing wrong with the Tiffen, not as good as the Hoya's but for this price you can't go wrong if you can handle not having the best of the best. Tiffen are a bit bigger in the USA than here.

  • I want to add a few more things filters related but they are not eligible for shipping to AU? wtf? They are all filters!

    • Lol, are they Hoya? There seems to be a pretty steep Aussie tax on Hoya over here. i.e. Hoya HMC (72mm) - $22 Amazon/ $60 Teds

Can't imagine Hoya want imports raining on their party!

    • Either it's a restriction placed by the supplier/manufacturer to protect price gauging or the other items you want are sold by a third party and don't have international shipping set up.

    • No they are Tiffen ND filter.
      Grrrrrrrr……..

  • Thanks OP. Tiffen filters are quite good. I have used few of their filters (FX series) before for portrait and glamour photography and I was always happy with them.
