Benq 1070 projector - $729 + post (reburbished unit)

30

I noticed that on the BENQ clearance page they have added the popular BENQ 1070 3D projector(With a 90 day warranty).

I have seen elsewhere the price for new is in low $900s for the 1070.But $729 + $15 postage - seems ok price for a secondhand unit ?

If you haven't looked before the BENQ site also has a number of other items - PC monitors etc … worth a look.

So it's a saving of $180 versus new? This only has a 3 month warranty so you need to consider if it's worth paying $180 for a brand new one with 12 months of warranty.

Mine came with a 2 year warranty so I would not consider a refurbished unit at that price. Mine was only around $145 more new (price match at Officeworks). Think very carefully before purchasing a refurb.

  • $900.95 includes shipment + 12 months local warranty

    • So Officeworks is $900.95 - 5% = $855.90 hence only $111.90 extra for a new fully guaranteed one!

  • I'm a satisfied W1070 owner (after upgrading from the W1060).. I recall the w1060 reconditioned units were going for ~$550 when new unit was ~$980, so $729 feels steep and I would pay the extra and buy a new one outright for peace of mind as Reddog/Scrim suggests.

Unit is more noisy then I like my projector to be (using my PT AX100 LCD as a comparison which on eco mode runs at a whisper quiet 22dB which it can afford given its larger size) - that said, the performance of the w1070 is very very good for the price (and 3d mode has next to no cross talk) within a small form factor.

I'm hoping the next version might be LED based giving me a reason to upgrade :) (I'm also looking forward to see what the Optoma HD-91 will be like once released in a few months)

  • Do you think the W1070 is a signficant step up from the MW512 (only 720p but good picture)?
Is it worth the upgrade or better to wait for newer/better models?

    • Significant 3D and 1080p plus very bright excellent picture. DO some research you will be impressed.

  • Do Office Works price match online prices? I've never used OW price matching…
    Thanks for your help guys!

    • Yes they do, that is how I purchased mine. Print out the web page/advertisement which includes postage and take it to the local store. They will take off 5%.

  • One of the really good projectors for sub $1k category.

  • Ok, just bought one from Office Works.
They would not price match the one from techrific, but did price match this one…

After 5% off, it came to about $887. Pretty good considering it's still $998 normal price at OW.

Only problem I have now is that the zoom in this model doesn't shrink as much as my old MW512. Now the picture is larger than my screen, and I can't shrink it any further. Doh!
