iPad 1 16gb Wifi $150 Ex Demos David Jones Castle Hill (possibly others) Macbook P $487 Hornsby

60

Hey everyone.

If youre looking for a cheap ipad you can give to your kids to play with or if you like me just need something you can take to the beach to work with, I have found a decent deal from David Jones.

I will upload the docket soon, but at this store they had a couple of iPad 1's for sale at different prices. The only 64gb one was sold to "the manager" but there were a few left - some ex demos.

I asked the staff if they had any 64gbs at any other stores which they rang the Burwood store which has a couple of mini's reduced down to $320 as well as an iPad 2 however I forgot the price. I went to my local DJs at Hornsby and they have macbook pros, looks like a 2012 edition for reduced $487. They had another 2 in the display cabinet, however one was a 15 inch Ret Display for only $1500.

David Jones is closing their electronics department so that Dick Smith can move in was the reasoning that staff gave to me. They have some crazy prices which is why I thought it would help other people in other states to go to their local and see what deals they have.

I hope that helps. The ex demo ipad I have works well nothing cosmetically wrong with it and battery is lasting for about 4 days which is decent.

Just be aware that Ipad 1 is no longer supported by Apple (no updates etc)

    • True, however you can still download previous versions of apps to support that iOS. Only bad thing is theres no camera

      • +1

Can you? on the iphone 3G you can't download a single app from the store.

$50 for this ipad and be worth it but at $150 I rather save up for the mini.

My iPad 1 is so lag compare with my iPad3.

My 486-SX33 is so lag compare with my i7-4770k

        • But your 486 will play Doom at a more reasonable speed than your i7 !!!!

How do ipad 1s still be $150? The specs are ancient.

        • +1

your assuming this person even knows what a 486 is… they might not have even been born yet.. :P

My first computer 486 dx266. This was when cd roms cost $1k (creative brand) with 1 x read speed.

          Ahhh those were the days!!!

        • loll.. mine was a 386 DX33 :) .. im old

they were good i must agree.. :)

        • Even older… From memory it was an AT286. Before that the Amiga 500 & 1000, before that a C64 & 128, and before that…..

        • +1

Mission impossible on c64 is sooo lame now lol "stay a while stay foreverrrrrrrr"

        • my company still uses some 386 machines!

        • My first computer is the Apple II clone.

        • Dick Smith VZ200 represent

DickSmiths is taking over from tomorrow. So tonight is the last night for these clearance prices.

  • does the clearance include things like ipod docks or only computer electronics like apple ??

  • The iPad 1 would be great as a hand-me-down, but not sure for $150. Still, my 2 and 4 year-olds use it for some kiddie games, video, and great for catch-up TV like ABC iView.

Was going to pass them on to their childcare centre if we upgraded ours and passed those down to them.

    • for kids, get ipad 3. ipad 1 is not so good for the eyes. just my 2-cents.

      • I agree, I noticed it to be very jumpy compared to the 4 my wife has!

      • When you're watching low res on ABC iView, I doubt that very much.

  • Castle Hills is where I bought my second 360 MW3 limited edition console for $70.00

  • Was at Chadstone earlier, they were clearing out stuff. Nothing marked in the Apple range except some accessories and Super Drives for about 70 bucks. They were also clearing out cameras and other electronics, but nothing good. I think it really depends on the store…..

Also over heard the staff talking about a clearance store in Harbor Town?

    • The Habour Town David Jones clearance centre is in QLD unfortunately, not in Docklands (VIC).

Wait… Is that a macbook pro FOR $487 or reduced by $487?

  • Can I make a suggestion: Buy the iPad (1st Gen), sell it on eBay for a profit (as people are still getting $200+ for them), then buy at least an iPad 2 that will take the newest IOS updates, apps, etc.
I bought a second hand one a a little while back just to let the little one use it. I quickly found that quite a lot of the apps I had on my iPhone couldn't be had for this as it needed to run at least IOS6. Subsequently, it's now someone else's property!

      Do not do this.

You will barely have $150 after eBay fees, PayPal fees and postage.

      • Clearly you charge extra for postage! Ebay fees are 9.9% so factor that in too!
Go have a look at eBay, go to advanced search and see what the average iPad 1st Gen 16GB has sold for!
Edit: Ps. He's already bought it so I'm just suggesting to get rid of it before it is worth nothing!

        • and PayPal fees!!!!!!

    • I recently sold my iPad 1 64g for $220 after throwing in New earphone and USB Cable. It was just before the iPad 2 become $296.i reckon no body would want to buy iPad 1 for a price above 200

      • I sold mine just over a month ago for $390 buy it now!!!
        Apple iPad 64GB, Wi-Fi + 3G, 9.7in - Black / Silver Tablet
        AU $390.00 + AU $15.00 postage 18/08/13
It did also come with a Gecko keyboard case, but no charger, box ,etc.

        • well done

  • Just went into hornsby store, staff claim they have not had any apple products for a "long" time. Seems they have snagged themselves a bargain :(

  • Buy the iPad 1 cheap, buy a Wallee case & matching wall mount, and you've got a (not cheap, but not crazy expensive) 9.7" digital picture frame with decent brightness, good viewing angles and usable display interface.

    • So long as you don't have more than 14GB or so of pics!

    • +1

      Over $200. For a 1024 * 768 display

      • It's kind of funny that 1024 * 768 on a 10 inch display is considered bad nowadays when that wasthe norm on fishbowl 17 inch monitors not all that many years ago. I wonder how we all survived. Lol I can't even stand the display of an iIpad mini now.

  • Yes I call Hornsby and they said they do not sell apple computer, only ipad and ipod.

  • i've tried glen waverly, chadstone, highpoint and doncaster none have any left..
Bourke st mall has 2 17inch macbook pros for $2500 - haha quite disappointed. :(

    • There was a display table full for Macbooks at Chadstone, no sign of a special price though.

  • +1

man you have to either really really really really love apple to buy this for $150 or really really really hate android tablets … lol

    • Yeah you can buy an android tablet that is better in every facet and new with all the latest updates for less. I don't get the logic of some people.

  • Where have they been 'demoing' Ipad1s recently?? LOL…..

    • in the bargain bin.. :P

  • This is ancient, slow & lags. Can't even open more then one tab. Buyer beware…

  • Still Sony vaio's at the Glen. Decent prices on point and shoot cameras. Lowe pro bags and cases look like half off. Lots of cheap ipod docks

  • Went to dj in city Sydney, didn't see apple computer or sony's.

    • yeh dj's sydney CBD is full of old junk like speaker docks, iphone ipad cases that aren't even discounted that much.

      • Did you see the apple section on the lower ground floor? They moved some of their apple products downstairs.

        • no. will check back tomorrow morning.if there is nothing good stuff, i will buy the acer from dse.

  • Warringah Mall still have a lot of camera on special, like the Nikon V1 headphone, speaker dock but nothing from Apple.

    • city has v1 too. just over 300 bucks for the cheapest kit.not interested, already have a D800 and gf3.

  • For those with older iPads, iPods that can't run the latest ios and hence most apps, some good news for you! Apple changed their store a couple of weeks ago and you can now download the last working version of an app (assuming there is one) for the ios your using. My daughter's stoked her gen 2 iPod touch is now useful again!
