Still kicking myself for having not picked up the 8.9" when it was $229…

    • +1

you shouldn't be; considering the ipad 4 was on sale for 397 couple of weeks ago. i have both the 8.9 and the ipad 4, and i would gladly pay double the price of the kindle for the ipad.

so still kiching myself for having not picked up the ipad 4 when it was $397…

      • silly comparison, similar hardware, it comes down to what software you prefer, and this is no place for IOS vs Android fanboi arguments.

        • similar hardware? you r kiddin right..the kindle is slow, even when i sideloaded chrome, it would struggle to browse multiple tabs

  • Is this good for reading outdoors? I like to read in the lawn on warm sunny days. Can anyone please shed some light on it? (No pun intended)…

    • Generally, you'd want an e-ink ereader for reading outdoors. They're usually only ereaders though, without much other tablet functionality. eg: Kindle (non-fire), Kobo, etc.

The tablets such as nexus 7 and kindle fire have LCD screens, which perform worse than e-ink in full sunlight.

      • That's what I thought so as well. Will be buying a Kindle paperwhite as I don't need (another) tablet.

That is a MASSIVE bezel. It looks practically ancient.

It's almost as big as the Nexus 7's bezel!

This or refurbed Nexus 7 for $129?

    • +1

Nexus7 of course if you want a stock android experience.

    • AFAIK the Play Store can't easily be installed on the Fire HD. It can be done, just takes a fair bit of effort. Things may have changed since I read this a while back.

I believe both lack an SD card so space may be an issue, go for which ever one has more?

      • No effort, just time. Google and follow the instructions.

    • Nexus 7 for me, can install the Kindle app on it too

    • That's a hard one; I'd prefer to buy brand new if I can help it.
The Nexus 7 is definitely more flexible at the end of the day though.

    • but where can you get nexus 7 for $129… I want one but it's all sold..

      Cheers, I had been wondering

You came here specifically to say you hate android when the deal is about an android device and no one asked whether android was good….lol

    • +3

Why all the hate, if you like IOS or Windows or others, then love them. We need more love in this world.

    • At such times I ask myself - What would Micheal Jackson do?

Do the moon walk while grabbing his crotch.

        Fiddle with kids?

        • heal the world and make it a better place of course.
