  • Hey.. any idea what current these cables will draw for an S4? (We talking close to 2000mA?)

    • +1

This cable has a 2A (2000mA) output so yes its perfect for your S4.

      • Awesome! Thanks… Bought a few! :)

        • +8

If you're expecting 2A, I hope you bought the 1m ones!

1M 26AWG at 5V 2A will result in a voltage drop of 0.54v giving you a charging voltage of 4.46, which is just under the 10% USB spec.

          2M 26AWG at 5V 2A = 3.93V - will not work

          3m 26AWG = 3.39V

Your S4 doesn't require 2A though. 1.3A looks like the highest it'll draw, based on a post on XDA - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2274321

          1M 26AWG at 5V 1.3A = 4.65V so no problem
          2M 26AWG = 4.3V which is under spec
          3M 26AWG = 3.96 way under spec

It'll still charge with the longer cables, it just won't be at the maximum current so it'll be slower than it can be.

If you want a rapid 1.3A charge at 2m, you need at least a 24AWG cable. I'd go for 22AWG to be safe, taking into account connector resistance.

Here's a handy voltage drop calculator:

          http://www.calculator.net/voltage-drop-calculator.html?mater…

        • Any idea on where I can find 22AWG cables for a reasonable price?

        • +1

They're not easy to find. There's a 20AWG one on ebay but it's 3m. There are quite a few 2.1A cables on ebay but they don't specify the cable thickness so I'd be a bit sus.

arctic.ac used to sell them for a decent price, but strangely it's not on their site anymore. Maybe they're out of stock.

The guys below sell them but you might have to email them to get it shipped overseas.

They did a comparison test here:

      • I am not completely familiar with the AWG system, but is it correct that 26AWG should be capable of delivering 1.6x more current than 28AWG?

I ask this because the 28AWG cables I bought would deliver much less than 2A.

edit: Got the info I was looking for above

You wouldn't happen to have some mini usb for sale too would you?

  • "but they are usually very expensive"
Really? You get one with every new device. They are like rubber bands - cheap, plentiful etc. Most people had an overflowing drawer of them.

    • +5

I find I am always short. They don't last forever, usually not a lot longer than the life of the device.

Have bought cheap spare ones in the past, they last a few weeks!

      Thanks OP, bought 2!

  • I have both Tikbro and Brentsbits cables and vouch the Tikbro is a better one which can charge my devices and sync their data. Whereas, Brentsbits cable doesn't sync my devices' data.

  • got a 3m cable

  • +1

Thanks! I got one of each.

  • Got 2, thanks OP.

  • Are the cables with the below charger same as these 26AWG

  • Any good deals for the new micro usb 3 cable for note3?

  • Bought 2x 3m cable. Hope its good for my Nexus 7s and S4.

    • The longer the cable the lower the output power and slower charging. Not sure if Nexus 7 will even run off a 3m cable or not.

  • Looks like I have to get official Samsung Note 3 cable. Every unofficial one isn't as good as the original I've tried.

  • last time i bought the brent bits cable
the 1m only gave me an output of 500mA from a 2A original charger , and the 2m version i got 200mA from the 2A charger. swapped back to original cable get 1700mA ! left negative feedback for brent bits..

    hopefully this one is better

    • +1

No wonder the 2m cable I got didn't work properly. These thin ass cables are useless for smartphones/tablets

      • Ok, I'll jump in the brent bits cable bashing. After I used it to charge two phones (Galaxy Note, and Galaxy S2) they both started playing up. Note seemed was rebooting and s2 froze up until I removed battery. Possibly/probably coincidence… but the timing felt like the cable was at least an indirect cause.

Oddly enough, and against all my electronics knowledge, I was worried the cable was somehow supplying too much power.

    • How do you measure mA output from USB cables? I'm keen to run some tests myself

    • It's one of the reasons I'm not selling the longer cables anymore, it's too expensive to find ones that have a good chatter rate in the longer cables.

Strange that you only got 500ma from the 1m ones though. The initial batch I ordered in, before I knew a lot of the differences between cables, were awful and I acknowledged that, b but the ones I have since then I've tested on my s3 and output is 900ma-1000ma.

Anyway, good luck with these cables, hopefully they are good :-)

  • I am curious though Bulksales, are you saying your cables are better than mine but that I answer all the questions anyway?

Just wondering, just doesn't seem like good business to slag your competition as part of your advertising.

Anyway, good luck to you :-)

  • Just bought a few 1m ones and one of the 2m and 3m ones to give them a go. Have a super-long one from an old HTC phone and it is still slugging along, and is bloody useful (especially when running a few USB cord in the car and someone in the back wants access to one).

  • My Note 3 cable costs $25.50. I hope I don't lose it! :(

  • +1

got my 1m tikbro 28awg cable today :) decent aust post shipping .sent wednesday, delivered monday

happy to report that the cable charges like the stock samsung cable . galaxy charging current reporting max 1800 ave 1698 from a 2A charger on a note 2.

anyone care to report back on the 2m version ??

  • I got my cables yesterday and tested them out and My 1m cable is showing on S3 as charging at rate of 466mA? This is the lowest of all my cables I have, even lower than ones I bought for 99cents.

  • +1

    Just received the cables today.
    3 metres.
    Galaxy S4.
    980-1100 mA.

    Happy.

    • Just some updates on this…

The Battery app reports >1000 mA on my Galaxy S4 if I used Samsung Wall Charger.

My other Asus Wall Charger( from a Nexus 7 2012 ) only charges 660 mA.

Weird.. Both are rated 2.0 A output.

  • I have just bought the ipad air and I want to buy a case. Any chance of a good deal?
