  • Good deal. I assume these are on a frame?

Where would I look for a decent free photo to use?

    Thanks

I would assume these are NOT on a frame.

I would think it is exactly as described - a Panoramic Canvas PRINT.

I would assume they ARE on a frame, otherwise they would be fairly useless (and expensive).
If you click through, login as guest and use a sample picture, it says "for canvas prints, the red region indicates the print region wrapped around the frame".

It's great that it's on a frame (refer comment below).

But assuming so was a bad idea. My statement didn't come from nowhere: I bought some canvas' online recently. I assumed they would be framed but when checking out discovered they were print only (probably due to the cost of shipping). I received them thinking that framing would be cheap, given there is no glass etc to worry about. Shockingly, I got quoted a minimum of $120 to get just one of them framed.

By comparison, the Big W price is cheap, which indicates that this was unlikely to have included framing. Also they didn't say it was included. We've all seen companies be vague in their descriptions to draw more customers in.

However, using monkey labour, it could be done. Instead of paying $120 I went to bunnings, bought some wood, and did it myself for $25.

Long story short, it's nice it includes the frame. Good deal. Going through the upload process and confirming is fine, but just assuming isn't reasonable.

They come wrapped on a wooden frame and ready to hang. Takes up to 10 business days, averages around 6 days.

Shame on you! Next, you'll tell me you read street maps and follow instructions when assembling furniture. You're a disgrace ;)

Taking 10 days to hang a picture is pretty long.

      • Good on you.

Narcissistic people can have have a panoramic photo of many of themselves jumping and doing all those stuff. Good find.

    • Whats wrong with that? I plan on naming my kids Bag jr, bag2, bag3…

You ever been to a gym… no matter how bad you look, its quite mesmerising… all those mirrors

  • the picture shows a print that is mounted…. I agree it probably isn't but pretty valid question…

Good luck trying to go to the deal using an ipad or iphone. The knuckleheads responsible for the site that big w use for the canvas prints have made it flash only.

I think what you meant to say was…

The knuckleheads at Apple don't want to support Flash.

I've bought these from big w in the past.

The print comes wrapped on a wooden (pine) frame and can be hung on a wall. All you need is a hammer and a nail.

From my experience, the print is of high quality although limited by the resolution of your photo. That said, the site where you order will let you know if the resolution for your photo is high enough for the size of the print.

How does the quality of these compare to Fabness?

    • +2

I have prints from both. IMO BigW's pretty good. Fabness is a bit better. Just a bit.

  • can anyone suggest what the minimum image resolution size should be?

    • -2

      74,000 dpi

    • but really - you are going to want something pretty high - 300-600 minimum at a guess.

    • I got away with 100ppi last time, but I wouldn't go any lower than that. That means 2000 x 4000 pixels for 20x40".

      • how was it?

  • what's the quality of these like, dpi?

  • I ended up ordering a 30x100cm print for $79… strange that a smaller canvas costs a bit more.. Well, no matter - 50cm height was too tall for what I wanted.

    • Would it help if you printed with a white boarder?

      • Nah, not really - there was already empty space in the photo I was using and I didn't need more :)

  • just ordered one
    thanks op

  • QN - I have a Sony nex f3 and take pics with highest jpg setting (believe 16mpixel). Could I use one of these pics? Suppose it won't be wide enough..

    • All good think they're around 4900x3200

  • Ordered three, already picked them up and they are up on the wall.

Quality seems on part with Fabness. One minor point for anyone wanting to resell these - on the back of the canvas it has the big w logo printed on (around the border that is stapled to the frame). Just FYI.
