    • well done!

    • I grabbed one from my local GG's. They did it for $996.
I wasn't willing to risk paying full price then trying to use their price guarantee incase they said no.
Only went to them as they are walking distance verses DSE being 10 minutes drive.
Well done for getting them to honour it.

  • Whats the power consumption like guys?

    • General

      Normal (Home) Mode*** 122 W
      Rated Power Consumption 2.1 A
      Standby Power Consumption 0.3 W

      http://www.panasonic.com.au/Products/VIERA+televisions/Plasm…

      • That's good isn't it?

        • My older Panasonic TH-42PX70A from a few years ago (42", 1024x768 res) is 350W. The 50" version TH-50PX70A (1366x768 res) is 528W versus the 122W on this current model (in home mode), shows how far they've come efficiency wise. Do they still measure plasma power based on peak brightness (as in full white screen, supposedly resulting in less power use for normal viewing)? Thanks to cnet for still having the specs listed from the older models.

        • As far as I know they have to measure it as its peak. That's why LCD's do so well in these tests but in the real world their power savings aren't anywhere near as much. LCD's are still basically using the same amount of power whether displaying a full black screen or white screen (although I read somewhere recently they use more power whilst displaying blacks as the panel has to block out the backlight).

So LCD's may only use 100-150W, but they're using that all the time. A plasma may use 400W on a full white screen, but in reality how often is the screen fully white? When there's black displayed (like on a 2.35:1 movie) that part of the screen is turned off.

My Samsung 60F8500 is apparently a power hog, but recently checked while playing a movie from my HTPC through my Denon 1713 with a 5.1 system and the entire load was 380-410W.

    • 448KW/Year - pretty good for a 50" plasma
      Same size LEDs'a are ~300KW/Year

      • +1

I'm not sure where you got your data from, but you probably mean kWh/year, rather than kW/year. kW are a measure of power, kWh are a measure of energy, so kWh/year are also a measure of power consumption. kW/year doesn't make any sense in this context.

        • Yeah sorry I meant KWh, not KW

    • +1

Why did it take so long for the power consumption question?

    • $30 to $40 on average a year more than a typical LCD.

For Christ sake, this has been done to death. It was always a smoke screen so that people would pay double for overpriced, washed out LCDs.

    Panny's the best

  • I cant select either option to "Click n Collect" or "Delivery". Either the website is stuffed or they're just out of stock. :(

    • I called their Online Sales this morning 8am, confirmed out of stock. Check with your local DSE and see if they have in-store stock.

  • Samsungs 64" for $1400 last year seemed like a pretty mean deal compared to this?

  • Website is stuffed!

Just picked one up from Wynnum Plaza (QLD). Capalaba will have one as I just cancelled one.

This morning I couldn't do click and collect as it indicated none available.

This morning I rang the Wynnum store and they had 2 in boxes and 1 on display so they held one of the box units and I just got home with it. The other box and display were still there.

    Ring the store!

  • Called Browns Plains (QLD) and they still have a few boxes left next to one with my name on it.

    • Same deal with Chullora (NSW)

Picking mine up for $947 soon.

      Thanks OP :)

Good Guys online order price has changed to $996.00 and $2 delivery :)

    http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/buyonline/Panasonic_50%22(127cm)_FHD_Plasma_3D_Smart_TV_TH-P50ST60A

    • That's the power of Ozbargain

    • Delivery does depend on location. Outside Melbourne Metro came up as $80-

  • Damn,I promised the wife that I would not buy another tv until ours died.. But I want this tv aaahhh

  • Chirnside Park, Vic had 3, 2 in boxes and one on top running.

  • Now appears to be available online, however, whilst it says free delivery, in the actual cart it says $24.95 for large delivery.

    • Go through the checkout system and delivery will be free. Triple check final price before you pay, of course.

  • Just ordered one from DSE for my parents. Now showing temporarily out of stock again. Thank you, LHSolutions, for flagging the price drop at Good Guys. Just picked one up for myself from there!

    • Ended up buying the second TV from Good Guys. The DSE TV ordered at 10pm was then cancelled by DSE 3 hours later due to difficulties processing. Not nice to wake up this morning to find the order cancelled.

  • Got one from good guys thanks, checked the DSE site after and it appears to be working though it said $24.95 delivery at first then changed to delivery to be calculated.

  • After all the rave that I have read I cannot resist this any more. Just bought one from my Dicky while still in bed.

  • Upgrading my old panny 50" plasma - thanks for the heads up.

Figure it will pay for itself over 5 years or so due to difference in power consumption

    • I was surprised by how slimline the newer units are.

      • +1

Me too, definitely helped getting the purchase over the line with the home treasurer

  • Not sure if this is indicative of units left, but it is not possible to order more than 11.(Not that I actaully want 11)

  • What is the sound quality of this unit?

    • Don't have first hand experience however a couple of reviews have said it has good sound for a telly.

  • Thanks ordered one.

Hopefully will not need another TV until about 2025!

  • This is an eye opener. Plasma to me mean power hunger, hot, and big/heavy. This panel is none of that. What is the reason for Panasonic to kill this technology?

    • Consumer demand, the LEDs with LED sidelighting just look cooler. Smaller bezels and slimmer.

The war is over and plasma lost, and if that means deals like this for me then that's fine :)

    • As Hypnotoad said, consumer demand.

I don't think they look 'cooler', but they definitely lost the PR war: overstated concerns about image retention, power consumption, heat, and bright room suitability.

      Sad really, better tech IMO.

Let us know how you find it DK? (other than not heavy, hot or power hungry)

      • Will do, as it will replaced my 6 years old Sony 46inch LCD which is going strong.

    • I overheard a salesman in JB say the screen are heavier, more fragile in transport and bulkier, which results in greater damage in transport thus highers losses with plasma versus all the other screen types.

Sounds plausible but I can't really argue either way.

  • I didn't have much luck with dick smith online ordering. Ordered something, never arrived, told out of stock, asked for refund. Never came. Had to open a dispute to get my money back.

If there are problems with not receiving what you have ordered, jump on them, straight away!

  • GG DFO Moorabbin has 1 left

  • Appliance Online have a best price guarantee someone might want to try -
    http://www.appliancesonline.com.au/panasonic-viera-th-p50st6…

  • Ordered online from GG

    Justification… YOLO

  • After a long long thought - decided to jumped on to the Plasma bandwagon (as I won't find this deal again this year)

Paid $976 @ TGG Carseldine but they charge $20 delivery fee (still $1 less than DSE)

I'm sure I won't be disappointed with this TV

  • +1

Damn you OzBargain - bit the bullet and bought one from GG Edwardstown $996… it'll do in the lounge room - I'll wait for the 60" to go in the bedroom later :) Just hooked it up - damn its a nice TV!

  • Thanks op.

Anyone with any tips on where to get another 2 pair of the correct 3d glasses at a decent price?

  • "Includes 2 pairs of glasses"

DS store told it doesn't come with any (he said the website doesn't state includes, just that it's an "easy setup", or something like that. I got him to even open a box and couldn't find any glasses.

GG said it doesn't come with any.

Can any one please confirm? Provide some evidence/receipt. I really want to but one, but not keen on shelling out $200-$300 on glasses.

  • Bit the bullet and bought one of these. Thanks OP for the tip-off. Theres abundant rave reviews on this unit & in terms of bang for buck its been rated the #1 TV for 2013.
I asked the sales guy at GG about the glasses and he said they come with 2 pairs. Will confirm tomorrow once TV delivered. Anyone got any thoughts on calibration/break in of this TV? Some are saying it should be calibrated after 100hrs and that various coloured slides are recommended. That advice is a few yrs old now and the technology may have advanced beyond this requirement.

    • Confirmed comes with two pairs of 3D glasses, taped to back of screen as mrdevil said above.

  • I have a Samsung 'Smart TV' and really love the fact it has iVeiw and a Plex app .. I can't see that this does …?

  • @ everyone who ordered from GG online… what does your shipping status say? any good advice on where to get an extra pair of 3D glasses for a cheap price :)

    • I did. They already called me to say delivery will be Tuesday !

      Good work TGG.

    • Ordered last night, delivery today

      • lucky you :) my status says BackOrdered… guess my GG store ran out of them or they don't want to send out their store stock and put me on BackOrdered.

@ashley7070, which GG store? and it was an online order?

        Thanks

        • Yes online order which is being fulfilled by thomastown store

        • thanks, went down to my local GG Frankston to find out they only have 1 left and had to debate with the manager why they put me on backorder when they have stock. No clear answer from the manager but shouldnt the online ordering system automatically reserve it? Guess the store staff didnt do their job.or intentionaly put me on backorder to save their stock

      • Me too, though the status online still shows as backordered.

        • After going to my local GG yesterday and speaking to the manager it finally got delivered today. My advice is to call or go in person to the GG store your order is assigned to and ask if they have stock and why your order status is on backorder

  • I ordered through DSE on Thursday night (was reported as "in stock"). My order status is "Awaiting fulfillment". Does anyone else have this? Does anyone know what it means? Hopefully it doesn't mean on backorder.

    • I'm in the same boat as you cammod ordered Thursday evening, still awaiting fulfillment :(

    • I am in the same boat but you should find that tomorrow or the day after they will fulfill the order and ship it out.

  • +1

Yep same, assuming they will fulfill and ship tomorrow or Tuesday, however I'm running out of faith with Dick after experiencing stock issues and shipping delays after items were supposed to be in stock on previous deals.

  • Just gave the new tv a run and it is AMAZING on stock settings! You won't regret it guys.

  • +2

When to my local DSE today and bought one.
At first was asked if I'd rung earlier (probably another OZB)and was told by sales guy the plasma was "online only sale", whereas the LCD was in-store. After a brief discussion, was able to walk away with the plasma, thankfully.
And, yes, 2 pairs of glasses taped to back of panel ;)

  • So far I've only recieved an order acknoledgement from DSE, everyone else who has ordered online are in the same boat I presume?

    • "Your Dick Smith order #100088888 is on its way"

      Yes!!

      • Are you teasing? That order number looks way too lucky….

  • i also got awaiting fulfill on my order , i called dicksmith this morning they told me probably they will get stock by end of this week(or before that) so there is little bit waiting period, no cancellation of orders(which most of us here fearing)….

    • +1

Huh? They said they don't have stock? They're inventory systems are farcical or they just outright lie to customers. I find this all the more annoying as I had an opportunity to get one in store.

      • i also asked them if it's not in stock then why don't they just put "sold out" on their website rather then showing in stock (with $1497 price)…she told me soon we will have it in stock that's why

        • They should change the status to Back Ordered or similar.

  • I got an email saying my order has been shipped, but when I called to see how to track it, the guy said that the email was sent pre-maturely. He said the first warehouse didn't have any stock so they wanted a second warehouse to send one to the first one, but the second warehouse is out of stock as well so I'm now put on back order.

He then said that I can either wait a few more days to see what happens or put in a refund/cancellation request. This doesn't give me a lot of confidence to buy from Dick Smith again.

  • Here are the details I got from following the tracking link in my "order on the way" email. Delivery by Star Trak Express

Despatch depot: SYD Despatch date: 22-OCT-2013
Delivery depot: BRS ETA date: 23-OCT-2013

I ordered mine online about 40mins after the deal was posted. Hopefully some other OZB members get theirs soon also.

Has anyone received theirs yet from online ordering?

    • Thanks for the update. Gives us hope :) Myself haven't heard yet - sitting at Awaiting Fulfilment.

      • I'm still sitting at awaiting fulfillment too. I jumped onto this 2.5 hours after it was posted and these was no indication of stock issues. I'll be be seriously annoyed if I find out I had several days to go to my local store and just grab one.

    • I thought I was doing a lot better then you by going through tGG as they called yesterday to say they can deliver it today, then called this morning and said they can deliver it 4- 6 pm - to my place of work no problem … now it's 7 PM and I don't know if they are coming or not , the store is closed and I don't have a driver contact… is the driver delay'd, can I go home and eat? I know my contact details are on the invoice… I'm not going to be here tomorrow.. bunch of dicks.

    • How did your delivery go gummibear & Elijha?

      • Mine was delivered today, but I didn't realise our intercom wasn't working so they left a card. The drivers don't have contact details and don't try to call at all.

        I have re-scheduled for re-delivery this Friday.

        • You must be banging your head to a wall right now

        • doh! they really should call before arriving.

        • disappointed would be an understatement. At least it will be here for the weekend. Fingers crossed

      • Go it this morning (at work) .. can't do much till I get it Home tonight… hopefully I can transport it safely back .. box is looking like it won't fit vertically in the car… hrmmm

  • Have made four calls to Dick Smith about this now; ordered Thursday night, still awaiting fulfillment and every time I call they tell me they will call me back later… finally on phone again now and find they don't have stock. I should have just bought one from the local store as there was heaps in there on that weekend instead of the online site and just gotten a refund for the website purchase. Now, there is no local stock so I must wait for their warehouse to get some.

I figured it might have been first come, first serve as I got in pretty quickly so assumed I would have the television already but I guess not.

    • +6

      I've been kogan'd and lenovo'd, looks like I've
      now been dick'd

    • Dick Smith are real smith heads. I've had problems similar to yours ridinkidonk with online purchases in the past. Multiple times. And when you call up their attitude is very "sucks to be you" rather than "I'm sorry I've f#@ked you around so much". Which only makes it more infuriating.

Having said all that, this was a fantastic price on an excellent TV. But when you're dealing with Dicks, better to go in store. As long as they eventually honour it, you'll be sittin' pretty.

      • They are back to advertising it at $1,497 on their website now with 'low stock'. It should read 'no stock' if what they have been telling me is true; I've told them either they deliver on the goods now or I'd like my money back now, one or the other.

What a shame. It is such a nice TV, too… we have been looking at it for so long and are just anxious to see it in the living room, I guess.

        • Yep. Mine still at "awaiting fulfillment". Called each day and get a different response. Today was told they were awaiting verification of my payment? Interesting…. as it's already landed on my credit card.

Told previously that the website said it should be delivered in 2-5 days from ordering and that time is not up so why am I calling? They also seem to suggest they can't locate the warehouse it's at?

I just want to know if it's going to ever ship.

        • same warehouse reason given to me…..
now she told me she initiate inquiry and i will get response soon(don't know whether it will resolve it or not)…

        • If they'll still honour the $997 price it might be worth waiting until they get stock. It is a low price and I'm not sure we can count on the price coming down so low again. Unless of course TGG will give you the same deal (then switch over on principle).

I'm waiting for the 60' to come down.

        • I doubt the 60" will come down much. $1790 is the best price I have seen so far. JB and HN even refused a $5 discount on that price.

        • +1

I fear you may be correct. But I live in hope. Especially given that I never expect to see the 50' <$1000!

  • +2

Couldn't resist and called Dick Smith to see what the latest story is. After waiting on hold the agent told me that he hadn't seen that status code before and had to further follow up. After various behind the scenes calls being made (hey wipe that smirk off your face, that is what he told me) I was told they had expected a big shipment from the supplier last Monday that didn't turn up. They have now been told that they expect a shipment from supplier to warehouse next week sometime, but couldn't guarantee it, and he suggested that I call back on Wednesday to recheck the status.

I go with for a walk with my little boy almost every morning past our local Dick Smith where there are two units in the window. I really have to change my walking route as this is really doing my head in….
