Nexus 7 (2013) 32GB LTE (4G) - $419.00 - ComputerAlliance, Brisbane

100

I picked up mine 3 weeks ago from Computer Alliance in Mt Gravatt.
There have been heaps promotions for the wifi version but rarely for lte version and I have not seen anywhere cheaper, so I thought I might just share it.
I don't think it is a 'special' as they have always been selling it at $419.
It is a local store and this price is cash price only. 2% surcharge with credit card purchase so I paid $428 for it, but still cheaper than Google store and Harvey Norman (especially at that time, HN had no LTE stock at all). I live around the local area, so it was an easy trip for me.
And because it is a local store, I don't think it is a 'grey import' product.

Anyone live around Brisbane Southern suburbs might try to get Harvey Norman to price match, see if you can pay with credit card and avoid that 2% surcharge.

I never dealt with Computer Alliance before. They seemed very busy that day, and didn't really care my business. I just asked for it, paid and left.

Any word on a cheap nexus 10?

    • Likely in the next 2 weeks when the new model is rumored to be announced.

Finally there's some movement on the LTE front. I'm sick of all these WiFi tablet deals.

    • why sick of the wifi tablet deals? I bought the LTE version just to try out Telstra's 4G network. but I think wifi tablets are generally sufficient.

I think he means he's sick of only seeing wifi tablet deals - he wants to see some LTE ones.

wifi tablets are generally sufficient - only for some people! :)

        • $140 more for 4G/LTE. While there is no doubt the 4G+Wifi version is better, wifi ones are being heavily discounted and seem more cost effective.

The 3G+wifi tablet I used to have, I only used the 3G once (and it was more to just test it works). I normally use 3G/4G from my phone. The person I know who uses 4G tablet a lot has a work issued blackberry. In his case, I can understand why he wants to do that.

        • Don't get me wrong - WiFi tablets are great! They meet the needs of many people, but not me. I'm hoping to get a Nexus 7 or iPad mini for some work on the go and when I'm travelling. There's no WiFi on my route and when I can get it, it's erratic. I need a 3G/4G version.

I didn't mean to offend anyone. I'm just frustrated that a lot of the recent tablet deals haven't included any 3G/4G versions. And even with this deal, the price differential is $140 on the $280 Nexus 7 32GB which is a neat 50% extra - what a crazy gouge!!! I could buy a 4G phone for that money and tether it.

          Hence my frustration.

        • I have to say, I actually feel the same. When seeing all the tablet deals, although I already have one, I always click to check if it includes the LTE version. I don't understand why the LTE ones rarely on sale.

What 4G. You can always share your phone's data connection. Can do with just the wifi.

The problem is that you are draining 2 batteries vs 1, and data on phone plans vs data only plans is more expensive (and you can get some decent prepaid deals ie 3gb data for 30 days for 15 bucks with telstra)

I now use my nexus to share the data connection. Tablet battery is much better compare to my phone……

  • So with the 4G function, can I put my phone sim in it and use it as a phone like the Note 10.1?

    • No, it just means you can use 4G internet.

I found it a bit confusing actually… The tablet has microphone and I have been receiving notification/txt msg from Telstra on the tablet too. And I was told if I install one of the message applications on the tablet, I can send txt message from my tablet (costs apply, of course). Have not researched for the call function yet…
        Anyone has a clue?

I use this for my wifi tablet. I don't think it can make calls though.

        • You definitely can't make calls on the Nexus 7. SMS yes, voice calls over the phone network, no.
