AirAsia: Melbourne to KL $257 Return (Inc Tax) + Other AU Destinations

1050
  • Travel Period : 17 February 2014 - 5 August 2014
  • Booking Period : 28 October 2013 - 3 November 2013

Just booked flights under the AirAsia 6th Birthday Special. Return is lower than advertised on most dates. Made two separate booking to save a further $20. Total return (without extras) is $257.00 including all taxes. Correct me if I'm wrong but these are the cheapest I've seen since their launch.

  • Sydney to Kuala Lumpur is $274.00 return including taxes
  • Gold Coast to Kuala Lumpur is $287.00 return including taxes
  • Perth to Kuala Lumpur is $240.00 return including taxes

EDIT: Deal extended.

Somehow? How can't u find this useful?

    • 40L bag will do many people fine and it'll fit in the overhead. Then just take your own food onboard :)

      • +1

they complained about me taking out a Whopper on the plane and they took my partners bottle of water off her. Also took many drinks off many other people at the plane entry.

        • i think they have to provide free water

        • +1

they didn't on Syd to KL in march this year, we couldn't even buy water because they don't take cards they don't take coins (WTF) I had a heap of $2 coins, but no, they only take notes…so we were without and they wouldn't budge.

another reason my partner hates them, but the price is SO cheap…. it's worth the pain I guess for me.

        • +3

          … as a security precaution

        • +1

I'm pretty sure that taking the drink off of you is standard Australian security procedure (and many other countries too). See here for more on LAGS (liquids, aerosols and gels)

        • +1

Only before the security scan, afterwards, there's no security reasons, only Airline's policy, which I doubt is legally enforceable.

The food on Air Asia (especially pre-ordered) is cheap & nice, only a little small.
It's been a few years since I last flew with them, but we took food & drinks aboard.

    • you can buy additional baggage & meals when you book with them, I don't see any problem with it.

  • +2

Good deal. But the seats are usually pretty small.

  • +1

Bloody good price. Even with baggage and meals my wife and I got $784 for MEL-KUL return.

    • +1

I've just booked another MEL TO KL return for $750 including baggage return for two.

However it's not the cheapest from Melbourne. I paid $710AU return from KL earlier this year all inclusive with 25kg baggage. Air Asia seems to always do it to me, past three trips the day after i return they have another sale. So now i am booked for July 2014!

  • Thanks op

  • +1

Finally found my one way flight! SYD-KUL $166

  • +1

    Great deal!

  • +1

My discount fare jumped up $110 due to a "fuel surcharge" SYD-KUL return.

    Anyone else getting this?

Edit: My fault, they throw in 20KG checked luggage

  • +2

So tempting, Langkawi for $1006 2 ppl travel during peak period (June/July)!!!

    • peak period is the worst

  • nice tickets booked for the Malaysian F1 GP.

  • Booked for Easter break, thanks OP

    • the Easter-Anzac super long week?

      • Yup, 11 Apr - 3 May. Super long weekend, LOL

  • Damnnn this is ridiculously cheap. Tempted

  • Amazing price, one month holiday booked for next year. $360 return with food and luggage!

  • my mrs refuses to go on AirAsia as we did a 'round Asia' trip earlier this year and the seats are terribly bad, the service worse, KL airport is like a hot warzone.

the queues are like a zoo.

has anyone gone business class with the flat bed? is it worth it? comfortable and big enough to lay down properly?

    • +3
      1. LCCT is the best airport in Asia. Check in, baggage, customs and immigration all in 9 minutes last Saturday, No airport in Australia can do that!

      2. I have done premium economy many times, the flat beds are not completely flat so you're lying there and your feet are copping the pressure of the 5 degree incline. It's better than economy obviously but it's not worth the money.

  • Gahhhh Sydney to Japan $663.53, should I? :/

    • jetstar for the same price is better. or the 2 for 1 sales. you're flying to the opposite end of the world then flying back to get to tokyo

      • is that jetstar deal on? i am looking for a better alternative to go back from tokyo to sydney

    • I found it for $441.

  • Damn cheap holiday but Air Asia are pretty bad airline
My parents got food poisoning from their food on the way to china and got really sick

  • I found a flight ADL-KUL $166 and $107 return. Bargain!

    • 107 return what dates? I cant find returns under 230…

      • keep browsing, the dates are so random, by the looks of it, its the first 10 booked on that flight that get that price, then everyone else gets the normal price.

if youre just staying in Tokyo, dont bother with a JR pass. you're wasting your money.

Someone who has spent 7 trips to Tokyo in 2 years, highlights are:

          1. Kagaya Restaurant (look it up, owner hit me in the dick repeatedly with a buzzer thing and served my beers in a glass that shook so violently when you put it to your mouth the beer went everywhere but in my mouth) dressed as kermit the frog and had a small kermit where his man part should of been and ran around to all women in the restaurant shouting out 'who loves Dick' and other stuff… anyway, look it up, my mind was blown

          2. Kabukicho - seriously mindgasm, Robot Restaurant if you can go.

          3. everyone will tell you 'oh Japan is SO expensive, I can't believe how expensive it is' do NOT believe them, they have either most likely never been or ate at 5 star hotel restaurants every meal. You can eat awesomely for around 15-20 dollars a day, much much less if you're not like me (and i was getting so drunk at all the nomihodai all you can drink beer, wine, spirits for $10 AUD for 100 minutes I was often eating three dinners!)

English might not be spoken, almost most definitely not, but hand jives work well…

the only true rule you need to have is, do NOT go to Roppongi and do NOT go into any shop that a Nigerian tells you to go to. Do NOT go anywhere a Nigerian tout tries to get you to go.

eat some whale sashimi at Karijaya just past the 109 building in Shibuya, don't worry, give it a try. life experience not many people will have.

Just up the Dogenzaka is love hotel hill, if you have your partner there, do it. they have photos in the entrance of rooms available lit up. I stayed in one that was like a 10 star hotel, it had a pool and spa IN the room and … it just blew me away, it was about $45 for a 'rest' of 5 hours or about $100 aud for the night.

cheap hotels can be internet cafes, you get a bit couch and internet and a PC, showers, movies, etc etc… food too… about 20 AUD a night

if you have tattoos, you're gonna have an issue. I have a small forearm tattoo and banned from all onsen/public baths/hot springs.

get a cheap bandage and cover it up, if you can.

Satou steakhouse in Kichijoji serves $150 200 gram Matsuzaka steak, best steak in the entire world. do it.

    • +1

watwatwat: dont worry and just speak in English. Generally speaking, japanese people are one of the nicest around the world when you ask them. Most people will go above & beyond to help you out. I am more worried about so many disasters going on there…

      • Very friendly people - I just stood in front of the map at the subway trying to figure out which of the 20 exits i needed to take and some random guy comes up and asks if i need any help

        Great customer service all round

    • Remember to bring a pad and pen, the Japanese can understand written English far better than spoken (usually too embarrassed to speak for fear of getting it wrong). Major train stations usually has someone that can speak English.

    • Bring a small package of tissues with you no matter where you go. A number of public loos don't provide their own.

      And I'm gonna reiterate ShinjukuJR

"the only true rule you need to have is, do NOT go to Roppongi and do NOT go into any shop that a Nigerian tells you to go to. Do NOT go anywhere a Nigerian tout tries to get you to go."

  • will book once i figure out details! =D

  • god damn ozbargain!

Your booking has been confirmed, thank you for choosing AirAsia X. Your flight itinerary and payment details will be emailed to you shortly.

I paid for the hot seat in 7D, if you don't youre in for a world of pain if you are medium build…

  • Thanks op. Family of 4 return at start of June/July holidays for 1300 Inc bags/food. Bought the seat requests as well-never been game to find out whether they will seat us separately.

Intra-Malaysia flights are cheap enough, just got to work out a good itinerary.

  • Awesome deal. Puts my $300 deal bought earlier this year for the same period to shame.

    • And for anyone wondering, you can buy reasonably priced food and drink on the plane.. It's not that much a of a big deal for 8 hours. I've been to work with less.

  • +11

Excellent, all flights booked for June…

    SYD> KUL
    Kul> Phnom penh
    Phnom Penh> Bangkok
    Bangkok> Hong kong
    Hong Kong> Bangkok
    Bangkok> Krabi
    Krabi> KUL
    KUL> SYD

    Total= $558

    Very happy!

    • Well done, great price.

    • Who did you book the other flights with?

  • Terminals…

KLIA = other carriers e.g. Malaysia airlines, Singapore airlines
LCCT = Air Asia and other low cost carriers

    fyi

    • LCCT is ONLY Air Asia.

It will be closed by June 2014 when KLIA2 opens for ALL Low Cost Carriers (jetstar, airasia etc etc)

  • Dam i already booked 2 return flights from gold coast to Singapore with scoot for $175 return each trip in jan and feb . Oh well i booked Kuala to Gold coast for $93 on 31 st March thanks op.

  • Seems like flights from Melbourne to Tokyo all have a 7 hour stopover in KL?

  • Looks like we're going to Malaysia for our anniversary next year! lol

    • -2

KL is so boring, I'm using it as a stepping stone to go to Phuket.

      • Phuket is so trashy, seedy and polluted. There are much better options.

      • +1

Thanks for that illuminating view. I've been doing my research and it looks like there's enough to entertain us for the few days we're there.

  • Just FYI, I just flew using AirAsia KL -> Melbourne last week
The LCC terminal introduced an extra screen for those flights to Australia

    Previous Steps:
    1. obtain boarding pass
    2. go thru security screen (where we have to throw away drink water)
    3. go down to the common waiting area (where we can buy bottled water or fill your empty bottle water in the water fountain)
    4. board the plane

    Latest Steps:
    1. obtain boarding pass
    2. go thru security screen (where we have to throw away drink water)
    3. go down to the common waiting area (where we can buy bottled water)
    4. go to special waiting room where we have to go through security screening again (where we have to throw away drink water again)
    5. board the plane

In summary there is absolutely no way we can bring drinking water on board the plane, so make sure you pre-order meal or quickly buy drinks in the plane if you can't abstain from drinking water for 8 hours or so

  • just booked to Osaka, Japan from Sydney return.
2 pax with meals and baggage for $1200. Might not be seated next to each other though!?! Could be a good thing.

    Is this a good price?

    • That's pretty good with meal and baggage.

  • -2

guys the lower prices dont apply to dates such as Mid JAN right? or do the cheap prices apply for all dates…when does the cheap prices apply?

    thanks

    • it tells you on the damn page the dates

it even tells you on THIS VERY OZBARGAIN PAGE IN THE DAMN TOPIC

      Travel Period : 17 February 2014 - 5 August 2014
      Booking Period : 28 October 2013 - 3 November 2013

    • I got really cheap flights over the easter break so it definitely doesn't just apply to the lower demand dates. No blackout periods is awesome!
