  • Great price

    • yes there are Powercolour and MSI cards around this price but Sapphire would be a better brand

All three GPU vendors you mentioned are firmly within the budget category.

And historically, MSI has released a far larger array of more unconventional/non-reference GPU designs than Sapphire.

  • Good price, I'm still hoping to see it closer to $200 here, but that's possibly wishful thinking.

Here's some benchmarks, including a comparison of how it compares to the 780 in todays other big GPU deal:

    • thanks for that.. yeah under $200 would be good but second hand 7950s are still selling for $200..

      • +1

It's better bang-for-buck than the 780, and more performance than most gamers will need for a while (assuming they'll mostly want 60FPS at 1080p and max settings in current games).

  • Could be more value for money once game start using AMD open source 'Mantle'

    • Yeah, we all hope so, but possibly not much. We'll have to see…

Don't forget you can do a bios-mod to unlock the 4 additional cores, read up on the article here too.

  • The Sapphire HD 7970 OC is down to $339 from $399. Not completely sure how it compares to its equivalent R9 280X at $399, but it doesn't seem too bad.

You'd be crazy to pay $60 for the new name.

      • I take it the 'improvements' (factory OC's) on the 280X's aren't anything to write home about, then. I may as well go for the 7970, cheers.

  • Looking to upgrade for BF 4. This a good choice?
    Speed/price value.

    Any suggestions if not?
