Is it any good for vinyl pools? An above-ground one that the previous owners stuck in the ground.

This cleaner will suit any skimmer box as it comes with the required attachments (you don't need to have a poolrite skimmer). You can use it in vinyl pools.

On this page, it says if your skimmer box cover looks like the image shown, you can use the Triphibian.

Unfortunately, ours is a rectangular shape. So I'm assuming the skimmer function is out.

Still, if it sucks well enough to clean a vinyl pool (with ridges) and doesn't make holes in the vinyl…

These pool cleaners are excellent, they'll keep the corner near your steps spotless. Once they get there, they stay there. I;ve had Baracudda, Kreepies and even cheap ones, they all end up in the corner, I've had reps come out, technicians as well, had the thing tuned,left hose in the sun, you name it.
