Just be aware these are not IEM headphones (in-ear style). These are the old fashioned ear bud headphones and as such they have virtually little to no passive noise isolation; so you'd be best using this in quiet ambient environment otherwise the soundstage is severely hampered.

I have the CX880's (basically the same as these just with in-ear monitors) and the sound quality is fantastic.

    • +3

Thanks.I almost purchased this one.Better get other ones with noise cancellation.

    • +7

I actually prefer these 'old fashioned ear bud headphones' as the in ear ones feel way too invasive.

      • +5

Well they're better for your hearing in the long-run but there's literally no situation I find myself in where my surroundings are that quiet that I can use earbud headphones and actually hear 100% of the music. They just bleed out too much sound and let in too much noise; and hence even with great-sounding ear bud headphones you'll get a muddied soundstage.

If IEM's are uncomfortable for you, just buy a pair with interchangeable tips and find the right fit; you can even buy custom tips these days: http://www.complyfoam.com/

Doesn't the bass reproduction take a huge hit as well since it's moving the entire earth's atmosphere (so to speak) instead of the small amount of air inside your canals as with canalphones aka IEMs

        • It could however, potentially save the lives of many MANY idiots who cycle/cross the street with the earphones on.

  • Couple of reviews on forums saying they're a worthy buy at $150 or more, they must be damn good value at this price! Thanks tightarse :D

    • They would be a good buy if you want ear buds. If you don't mind IEMs or headphones you might be able to get better sound for around the same price.

      • Already bought the V80s from one of the other deals and one of the meelectronics IEMs!

Unfortunately my ear canals must be extremely small because even the smallest sized ear pieces that came with the meelectronics don't fit for me =(

  • Damn, this is a great deal! I hate in ear headphones as well. I generally use a full size set, but these will be great for when I'm traveling etc. I've never seen these even close to this price, so if you're considering it I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger.

  • Excellent value if you can't stand over ear or in ear headphones.

for the people saying they don't like IEMs (in-ears), have you tried them with different tips, and for a significant amount of time?

i think most people go wrong with IEMs because of poorly fitting tips, and/or because they try them for 5 minutes and give up on them. if you pick comfortable and well fitting tips, you'll eventually get used to the feeling of having them in your ears.

of all the people who have ever told me that they hate IEMs because of the feeling in the ears, every single one (literally) who listened to my advice has later started loving IEMs. the sound quality and isolation just doesn't compare.

but, everyone's different…i guess some people may not be able to get used to the feeling!

    • +3

I've tried a few sets with different tips, but nothing has ever felt right to me. It just feels unnatural and I did try to get used to the sensation over a week or so of daily use. Alas, it wasn't to be! A shame because the vast majority of portable headphones are IEMs and I definitely acknowledge that for isolation and overall sound quality no earbuds can get close to that level. Still, I generally have no qualms lugging around a full sized pair of Beyer DT-250s which surely beat a good pair of IEMs in terms of sound quality anyway.

      • +2

ah well, at least you tried!

did you try comply tips (or other foamies)? if not, if you ever give IEMs another go, give complys a shot (maybe the comfort series)…they may get you across the line!

definitely with you on the headphones tho…i got DT-770 PRO (80) myself. use the DT-770 when i can be bothered carrying them, and XBA-3/IE-80/Super.fi 5EB for more portability. and a few pairs of UE200 for throw-around beater use (maximum portability and no worries about getting damaged!).

i go back and forth between headphones and IEMs…i think i need to buy some more headphones to balance it up a bit! :)

      • This is me for 95% of the IEMs I have, the only ones that feel OK are Brainwavs beta and Monoprice 8320. Odd, as these are some of the cheapest IEMs I own…

  • i just bought a pair thanks man!!!!

    • Glad you did AirMartino347. Cheers.

  • at this price I have to try them. Another set for the collection! Cheers

  • just bought one, thanks tightarse…

Dont forget this as well ^^

    Cash back from qwibble

  • Sorry for those who has bought it though ^^

I too cant stand IEM earphones …. Should i get this ? I am still using Sennheiser MX880 from last COTD deal … Not loud and detail enough for my liking but hey its under 30 dollars …

    Should i get this ? ^^

  • I've never tried IE headphones. Bought the A161P from MEElectronics, it was delivered last week, put it on and really loved it. I'm sure these MX980 earbuds headphones will also sound good. I'm voting it for the good price.

  • If you prefer headphones then scam of the day has razer chimera for roughly the same price here:

    Ha. Not even in-ear.

  • Seems like an awesome price!

Does anyone know if the volume control is a feature that can only be used by Apple devices? (iPhone/iPod etc). And what of the website? Is it reputable?

    Thanks.

    • I have tried a few different pair of earphones, none of them can control the volume of Android phone. I think Google should find ways to improve this. Volume control on ear phones is important.

    • the volume control on these is in-line resistance…ie. a separate analogue volme control, it doesn't control your device volume level.

so it will "work" with android exactly the same as it "works" with apple or anything else (ie. it does work/it doesn't work at all!) :)

  • Awesome thanks,
Love these for work so people can't sneak up on me.

  • Don't know whether to give a + for the awesome deal or a - for forcing me to make yet another earphone/headphone purchase I can't justify…

  • ORDER ONE,THANKS

  • Would someone recommend these for a long flight?

    • No noise cancellation or isolation, so probably not the best!

  • 1/3 of normal price? Sounds too good to be true. Hoping for the sake of those who bought it's not.

Fake Sennheiser earbuds are very common! I'm not trying to accuse oo.com.au at all and there is a great chance that these will be genuine. However, I believe people should be warned when the price is this low.

    • Yea sennheisers are one of the most counterfeited earphone brands but still i bought the cx200 for about $15 and the quality was awesome. didnt last long though, about 3months, hope these ones are better

  • Are these better than Sony XBA IEMs ??

  • Thanks just bought one, I also hate IEM earphones too, used them before for a long time i swear my ear canal has increased in size because non IEM earphones dont fit snugly anymore.

  • I actually like these old fashion ones, especially I actually use them to listen to music while I am travelling to work and going everywhere. The good thing with these ones is you can still hear what's going on around you. Otherwise can be quite dangerous, say run over by a car while walking… for safety reasons I prefer these old fashion ones. Not to mention the IEM ones are often so intrusive.

  • +1

    damn you guys!!!

    (yes, i ordered a pair…ahaha). :)

i figure, since all my earphones are IEMs, i needed a set of earbuds in case i want to listen to earphones but still be able to hear things around me…like if i'm browsing more earphones/headphones to buy, and don't want my boss sneaking up behind me! that's a completely legitimate and sensible excuse for purchase, right? :)

  • Ordered a pair, thanks for posting.

  • The reason these are so cheap is cause they are the old version.

    • When you say old version, do you mean mx980 as opposed to mx985? Or do you mean an old version of the mx980?

I am didn't come across any mention of different mx980 versions (but I didn't look very hard before I bought!). I just assumed it's cause they're discontinued.

had a quick look, and found mention of "old version" on amazon. do you have any details on the old vs new version?

  • Be warned with these earphones.

I bought these type of sennheiser earphones from COTD a while back and they were way too big for my average sized ears. Completely unusable for me.

Sent an email to COTD saying that I didn't use them as they wouldn't fit. The filthy, scum rip-off COTD arseholes said you can't return them for health reasons.

    • +2

to be fair, that sounds like a fairly reasonable reason not to accept returns. I wouldn't want to wear ones that had been in someones ears

    • Just receeived mine today, and yea your kinda right they dont fit snugly into my ear even with the foam covering feels like theyre always ready to drop. These are the most expensive earphones Ive bought and I cant notice any improvements from the the $16 sennheiser cx200 i bought on ebay.

      • Get yourself a decent DAC and amp, your be blown away by what these little ear phones can produce.

Like most high end ear/head phones / speakers. It requires a lot more power to drive them.

They lack bass and volume when driven by iPhone or android phone. That is why you can't hear the sound difference between cheaper models.

They really should come with a disclaimer that your need an additional amp to make them sound really good.

The sound quality is up there matching the ath-m50 headphones I have, the midrange might be even better, definitely a lot warmer. Bass is extremely tight and controlled.

        A definite bargain at $70

    • Just got them. They are very large and are not comfortable when forced into my ear and I am not a small person. Oh well. Back to the UE200s.

  • Duplicate comment

  • Sold out.

They'll be putting them back up at $99 when they have more stock.

  • +2

They had me at "integrated volume control" but lost me at SOLD OUT!

Just as well, my headphone collecting hobby needs to stop!

    Good deal.

    • +1

Same here :( I have bought way too many pairs of headphones thanks to OzBargain! looks at unopened B&W earphones

      • Ha ha, I have at least 2-3 unopened also, just the cheapies though, like the $10 or less ones.

  • I received mine today.

It is in full package and has everything supposed with it.

Listening to it Definitely a highend earphone, compare with my UE tf10 and Sony Mdr-1r

  • Is there anyone here that has not received their order yet?

    • i got mine at work today (public holiday yesterday in melb).
