The bonus cover is more enticing than the phone itself.

This phone is $549 delivered at kogan and the cover is about $15 on ebay. Hardly a good deal.

    • you only appreciate the local warranty when you face one occasion that your phone might arrive with fault ;), I would rather spend that bit extra for hassle free, no neg, just personal preferences are different ^_^

      • Will JB replace on the spot? I assume not. For a mobile phone which is a day to day tool the local warranty while nice (great even), may still not cut it if all they are doing is handling the shipping to the manufacturer on your behalf and still leaving you without a phone until the repair is carried out.

I've had local warranty claims where I feel I could have got quicker service if I'd mailed the device to the manufacturer directly.

Yes, took back my hero3 a week after as it had polishing marks on the lens.. Thy happily replaced it for another brand new hero3..
So if you buy anything local which fails within the reassonable time frame, you can always get a replacement from the retailer without having to go to the manufacturer.

        • Yes they will, even from different JB store.

I bought my phone from Melbourne store, within 1st week it died and I had returned to Sydney, so i took it to a Sydney store and they just swapped it.

    • Aussie stock vs. Grey import.

I think that the Kogan version is NOT Aus 4G LTE compatible. You need the "T" version of the G2 in AUS

      • The Kogan international version will work on most Oz 4G - the only exception being Optus in Canberra and their 4GPlus offering - which uses a frequency only the LG G2 Oz version has.

There are more strange frequencies coming along in future, but patchy support for these is the norm across all smartphones.

  • Damn slow or no software updates. Hard to obtain warranty. That was my experience with LG, last time I dared to buy one of their products.

Thanks OP for the info. IMO Nexus 5 offers better value of money.

    • Was thinking the same and researched it. Camera isn't as good on Nexus5 and there is a heap of bugs with colour reproduction on camera currently.

      • +2

There are + and -. Depends what your priorities are- you wouldn't buy a nexus if camera is important. But you'd be saving around $200 (including delivery).

Yea if you bought a phone for its camera, only phone you'd want to buy is a Nokia Lumia 1020.

However the other 90% of the world who doesn't care that much about photo quality on their mobile phone will just buy some other brand.

          FOR G2
          1. 3000mAh battery vs 2300mAh for N5
          2. 0.2 inch larger screen (less change of dead pixed - because this is LG's flagship device, the panels should have less chance of dead pixels as being reported for N5.
          3. 13MP camera also with OIS, vs 8MP on N5

          AGAINST G2 / For N5
          1. Slower OS upgrade, on 4.3.1 for now. 4.4 for N5
          2. OS not as clean as stock KK on N5, unless of course you custom ROM it
          3. Plasticky feel / Understated feel (nicer)

For me, the 3000mAh battery was the clincher.

        • However the other 90% of the world who doesn't care that much about photo quality on their mobile phone will just buy some other brand.

          99.99%

        • I partly disagree. As a buyer we'd like to get the best spec and value for money product.
Camera is a vital feature for most users nowadays.
The world is not ideal, so does mobile phone :) therefore we may need to optimise all of the features, and one of them is camera quality of course.
IMO, I don't choose Lumia 1020 although the camera is reportedly great, but the OS does not provide MUCH more apps as iOS or Android.
So the question is about "what is the best Android 5 inch phone with the BEST camera?"
The quest is limited with the Android OS phone as one of the criteria.

  • Only $11 cheaper than HN, I think HN still can do old phone trade in for 10% off, but I am not 100% sure now.I asked HN before Nov.

  • I can appreciate your enthusiasm for this phone but at the current price you'd be crazy to get the Australian model. Just import from Kogan or DWI… or wait for the Australian model price to drop to comparable price. I'm hoping under $400 just after xmas. Optus 4GPlus is just a big wank atm and likely to remain so for the next 6 months.

    • Buy now with 28 Degrees, claim later when the price dropped

  • Got it at Liverpool JB today, the first one they've sold apparently. They wouldn't go lower than $630 with a free Telstra sim or internet security suite. Receipt shows the phone for $580 and Internet security suite as $50. Can upload if anyone wants it. Tried to do the ING cashback trick but the cashier refused to do it. If only Dick Smith had stock I would of just walked out and got it there then.

    • you should have bought 99$ gift cards.

      • That's what I was going to do but he refused to do that.

        • how can they refuse sales? i dont get it.

        • Me neither. He knew what I was trying to do and said it was a waste of time and paperwork for them. The store was hardly busy though, and I even said I'd line up again after buying them separately but he still wouldn't budge. Pretty sure he was the manager as well.

        • You should have walk out and go another store. That kind of behavior is unacceptable.

  • Popped into JB Modbury after work.

Waited around for good 20 min before sales freakshow ( incredible amount of piercings) greets me.
Long story short the man was such an asshat that I ended up walking out.

Popped into DSE on way home on the off chance , had stock matched price , incredibly professional.

this is my 3rd and last bad experience with JB this year.

On the phone front - just unboxed it, love it!
