  • Don't know how long it actually goes for, but they will be offering new items everyday of the sale

As much as I like the Humble Bundle (I have almost every one since their first one!), I REALLY don't like this idea… It is such a deviation from their initial purpose, which was exposing the masses to Indie games at a price which people could afford and supporting charity at the same time. This is heading down a slippery slope towards yet another Steam Store, GoG, Greenman Gaming, or heavens forbid, Origin Store (shudders profusely).

    • +8

They are getting more exposure , offering not just indie games but big name title games. This just means more cheap games and more money going to charity. Everybody wins. Whats not to like =)

      • +8

Once upon a time, there were Sonic games. And they were good. In fact, they were AWESOME. Then one day, the developers thought, "People like Sonic games, lets make more Sonic games! The people get what they want with more Sonic games and we get more money! Everyone wins!"

Yeah… we all know how this story ends…

        • +3

More choice and competition is never a bad thing. When you look at Origin, you are not seeing a competitor. You're looking at a closed environment which won't allow a competitor to distribute its titles (no steam, etc). The analogy between Sega and Humble Bundle is a stretch too. Distributor/reseller vs developer/publisher.

        • I agree that more choice and more competition is a good thing. But I can also see games going up on their "store" for an extended period of time. And then once they've milked it for all it's worth, grouping the games all together into a "Humble Bundle" and selling them again.

      • There were also concerns about devs moving to free-to-play platform if games keep on devaluate that fast…
free-to-play and in-game microtransactions seems like the logical step if the trend of dirt cheap games continue..

I think you've missed something, Humble have been selling games for yonks, they just didn't have a proper store front. Devs often put up a link to buy a Steam key and DRM version from Humble whenever the game was reduced on Steam (for the same price as Steam's discounted price). The major difference is (at least up until now, not sure if it has changed) the developers/publishers received a much larger cut if you bought through Humble than Steam.

Next thing you know Humble releases their own client.

      • They have a client on Android =)

    • What I dont understand is that they are going to try sell you games.

Later, when they put those games in a bundle, hypothetically you'd own them all.

That's great for their profits. But means the bundles will become extinct and be replaced by a store.

I guess that's ok. Not all that fazed, as personally I'll choose not to buy from the store.

      • Well games don't have to migrate from the humble store to bundles. They're still separate things. Also, look at the current Warner Bros humble bundle - those games would never have been released on the Humble Store when they were new, even if it had existed back then.

I see the store as a "trusted" way for the more-independent developers to accept cash and distribute their games, brand new, with DRM free and/or steam key options for people who care about that stuff. As somebody else mentioned, this system was already in place, but only accessible through each individual developer's website - an actual storefront that ties them together didn't exist until now.

    • I also am interested in setting my price for games, which is just a few dollars.

I don't care a $40 shovelware game is now $20. I'm not prepared to spend either.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 sounds like a really fun game

Have spent tons of hours in Euro Truck Sim 1, was waiting for a bargain deal for the second version. :)

    • +1

It is. Whilst I wouldn't say it's exhilarating fun (unless you have an Oculus Rift), it's nice and relaxing and very beautiful.

      • Yeah after actually looking at the trailer it looks decent if you're into those types of games.

    • It really made me appreciate how ridiculously freakin difficult truckies have it when they're trying to reverse park those things.

    • No! This is the best game out of them all. I've got a rift, so I'm gonna be a trucker today.

Interesting, but sounds like you can't change the percentage of the proceedings?

    • Only 10% goes to charity. That stopped me buying.

      • +3

Fair enough, although that's 10% more charity money than most digital retailers. Better than nothing, I guess - and you can still activate on steam if you care about that sort of thing.

  • Its the cheapest a fair few games have been. Definitely Prison Architect and Gunpoint. Considering Rogue Legacy as well.

  • if you're on the fence about Euro Truck Simulator 2 and Prison architect I would suggest buying them. Euro truck simulator is hours of fun if you're into those types of games. Especially at $6.25.

Prison architect is also great and still in beta so they're always adding great new features.

  • Rogue legacy is fantastic

Euro Truck Simulator 2 is fantastic fun if you have a steering wheel with clutch and H shifter

    • I tried to make a "stop buying games I'll never get around to playing" resolution a while back but this sort of thing really weakens my resolve :)

ETS2 seems like a pretty cool thing and I've got a Logitech G27 wheel which would probably make it awesome, but I just don't know how much time I'll have to tip into it.

Realistically, what's the shortest rewarding play session you can get away with at a time? 1 hour? Can you drop out of the game mid-run and pick up again later?

      • +1

You could get away with a hour but you won't want to.

      • You can quit the game mid run and pick up from where you left off.

The runs at the start of the game take about 5-15 minutes

    • fantastic fun if you have a steering wheel with clutch and H shifter

      Don't forget Eyefinity for immersion.

      • Oh man, I downloaded a mod that let me use my 2 (different sized) monitors with ETS2, and even though it didn't look that great to begin with, once I started playing and got used to it it was AMAZING.

        • Before using Eyefinity, I remember using that SW (forgot the name). You dump it in the game dir & patch a dll or config file; it will run as a background process. Combines the memory & processing power of 2x graphics cards in to 1x virtual one. Best thing is it disregards AR (unlike EyeFin.) so all combined monitors run at native res. & refresh rate meaning no black bars, stretching or blurring.

        • Thats what I used.

        • Refresh my memory, what was the name it?

        • I think it was this. http://www.kegetys.fi/SoftTH/

        • Ahh yes that's the one. Cheers!

      • Oculus rift >

I have been waiting for a cheap copy of Euro Truck Simulator 2 to try out with my Oculus Rift.

    • How're you liking the Rift? Wife wants to get me one for Xmas.

      • I would wait for their 1080p model to go retail. And I think it will be sometime next year, so you can enjoy Warthunder and Star Citizen at its full glory. :)

      • It's only had about 20 minutes of use as it makes me feel pretty sick, I am hoping that a driving sim won't be as bad as a sim where you would walk round.
Just waiting for castAR to get kickstarted now, should be awesome but without the sickness feeling.

  • +1 for gunpoint. Great game! Thanks OP, will finally pick it up after playing it in Beta :D

  • +1

As someone said above me, humble bundle always had a store, it just never had a store front. More competition on PC games market is better for everyone!

Also, +1 for Gunpoint as well :) I met the devs at PAX this year and the alpha build they had was amazing!

  • +1

I have to say that Orcs Must Die 2 is a great game. After watching me play, my 9 year old is now giving it a go, and loves it! It is hard to describe, but think of it as a 3rd person shooter where your ability to win is based primarily on lots of strategy and tactics with the traps you lay.

    • Is it fun playing solo? or more fun co-op? (need to find people to co-op then)

      • OMD 2 is more fun co-op but it is also fun with a single player. The waves of enemies are easier is single player, however some of the later levels are very difficult played alone due to the geometry, but certainly not impossible. OMD 1 is single player only. You can often get both (& all DLC) for %75 off at Steam sales. Both are very much worth getting IMO. I am not into the genre but the gameplay is just so awesome. I wish there was an OMD 3.

        • Thanks. Will hold on till Steam Christmas sale then. :)

          Do you mean Wed? ;)

        • Yep, i got lazy and forgot to change it to Wed…

Anyways, not just US, but ALL those countries above…
          (Excluding AU…)

        • So is the deal region locked or the keys…that's my question. I might be able to source the keys from someone in US, but what if the key doesn't work in Steam here.

        • Assuming this is the right one? http://steamdb.info/app/233270/

        • Worked flawlessly using Tor (I also have Unotelly if that helps)
