So glad I discovered this program a year or so ago. Made 3500 points just spending on what I would have done anyhow this year.

    • +3

Yeah i only found it by accident and glad i did for the points but sometimes buy things i don't need…for the points…
If you can buy something and resell it and at least get some of your selling costs back then you could rack up a nice chunk of 'free' Velocity points. Not to give away too many secrets but i've found seasonal items a good way to do it. Bought a road bike for $185 and resold it for $400. Yes, it will take me 130 of those transactions to get a return trip the US but only 129 to go now! Unless i factor in the profit then it's a lot sooner but that would be a different OzB thread.

So glad I discovered this program a year or so ago.

And you'd never thought of telling us, until now?

      • It's been posted here before which is how I discovered it in the first place.

  • Ah crap just as a I threw a couple hundred dollars down eBay's way, I find out about this… :(

  • Do they always have this? I just found Appliances Online actually are there on the list.

    • It's always there but usually 2 points per $1. Still good IMHO

  • +2

how to get the points in iTunes and ASOS?

    • I used it for iTunes video rental on the weekend. You just log into the Velocity site, click the iTunes shop link, web browser asks to open iTunes and it works.

  • Yeah, how exactly does this work? You login to the Virgin site then have to go through a special link to the retailer? It's not really clear on the Virgin site, e.g.:

"If you click on any advertising banners or sponsored links on the eBay website, you will not be eligible for rewards. If you do click away, you must return to this website and click through again before purchasing. Auctions won with bid sniping tools will not receive any rewards."

    • Yeah, when you log into the velocity site, you have to bring up the page for the retailer, then click 'shop now', and it redirects you to their site - make your purchase, and then get an email indicating 'pending points' a day or so later.
A couple of times it didn't work, but their customer service seems reasonably good, they can just take months to credit you the missing points.

  • Damn. I normally collect Velocity points from every direction possible, but I didn't know eBay was an option. I've spent at least $500 on eBay just in the past month.

  • How did you link to ebay or other stores?

  • +1

damn it!!! I bought a $400 monitor an hour ago T_T

    • +1

Sorry to rub it in, but you missed out on 1600 points :O

      • +14

You are sooo not sorry!!! D: D:

  • I had no idea you got bonus points using these partners. I use them all the time! thanks OP

  • Would you be able to use this on conjunction with starthere cash back sites, eg iTunes, asos, deals direct, or would you need to decide which provides a better return?

    • Nope, you can only use one cashback site at a time.

Most of those have better value cashback, at cashback sites.

I only use Velocity for Ebay generally, other sites I use all have better deals at other cashback websites.

When Velocity goes down to 1 point per $1 spent at Ebay, I switch to Rewards Central for Ebay cashback shopping as they also have 1 point per $1 spent at Ebay but their points are better value if you are using Velocity points to gift cards (RewardsCentral 100 points = approx $0.97, Velocity 100 points = approx $0.60 depending on voucher type and amount)

  • So are the points useful? If not flying frequently

    • 18,000 points for $100 Coles voucher if you're so daring.

      • Wow, they've gone up. I just checked the cost of a $50 Myer voucher, and it's 9000. It was 6750 a year ago, while other retailers were 7500 from memory.

        • +3

Realistically with the frequent flyer programs the bet value is with the flights.

        • 100%. I used the bulk of my points (about 200k) on a return trip to LA. I've only bought a couple of $50 myer cards since then because I thought they were good value being 10% cheaper than other retailers.

        • Upgrades

      • that's easy compared to the Olympus OM-D, yours for a cool 195,000 points!
if you were to earn 4 pts per $1 before 31st Dec you would have to spend over $48,000 on ebay, yikes! but if you were going to spend that anyway, not bad

    • You can use them for gift cards for Woolies etc.

4 points per $ spent is about 2.4% cashback if you are using Velocity for gift cards.

  • Yeah this is great, especially coming up to Christmas. The 500 points per booking for restaurants through November is a great way to gain points, especially when you're dining at someone else's expense!

    • I think it's dropped to 300 points per booking now… :(

      • Nah, still 500 :)

        • Ah, yes, missed the promo, 500 points till end of this month.

  • This is great AND states that many offer free shipping (I did not check each site), many of them in UK or US.

be warned. the estore can be slow and a bit buggy. i did some shopping on eBay this morning, and though i logged in and clicked on 'shop now' for eBay, when i returned to the page to logout, it was greyed out with a 'shop now' box, so i may miss out… again. getting your points can be hit and miss in my experience, i'm not the only one, if you do a bit of research.

      • I've been using this for over a year now and have never missed any points. You get a Velocity points pending email while they verify the purchase and it usually takes a week or so for the points to come through…in spite of their 48hr claim.

        • +1

well i don't have adblock. cookies are enabled. i have ~50% success rate only with this site. missed out yesterday AGAIN despite following all directions. hopeless website.

        • +1

yeah, I don't think I received an email confirming that I made my purchase through them at all, yesterday.

  • When do the restaurant booking points get credited, could it possibly be before you eat ….

Ok I see it now , book and dine in November

This site has been around for a while, but earning points by clicking through is so unreliable. Very rarely do transactions actually register (none of my eBay purchases have ever been added despite clicking through from their link for example).
It used to be called Shop and Earn, and has recently been revamped.
Heres a threat filled with people with the same troubles
    http://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/virgin-a…

    • I haven't had any rejections. I think there was a period where they were having problems but i haven't been affected (touch wood). You can see my statement here of my too frequent eBay purchases being transferred to Velocity. http://postimg.org/image/t1h11x3kl/

      • maybe you'd like to fill us in on how you score the points, browser, cookie settings, any other relevant info?

  • +1

if purchases aren't being registered, it's probably because of adblock

  • Mine went through fine when I used ebates for eBay purchases. I was very careful about logging in just before the purchase

  • Dammit. Just bought iPhone via ebay yesterday! That's like 3,200 points!

  • Just made a reservation to try out the new Jamie Oliver restaurant for a little snack. 500 points.

  • +1

Just bought a new iPhone from Apple - 4,516 points on its way :)

  • +2

I've been using the velocity scheme for a few years now.
Some big ones are moving your electricity to Lumo for 10k points, installing foxtel for 30,000 points (not a cheapo deal though) or even getting car insurance with Virgin for 5,000 points. I even took out a Nab velocity card and have redeemed several business class flights so far.
It's amazing how everyday purchases and things like eBay adds up
+1 to velocity over qantas FF
    ;@)

  • Even EA Origin..?? Awww.. my bf4 Mexican ea purchase….

    • ?

  • Is there any promo code that I could use when I join the program?

    • It is free to join as is Qantas. Just don't give you access to the clubs etc.

      • Qantas or Virgin?

  • Anyone buy anything the past 2 days via the eStore and still haven't had their transactions show up yet?

    • also curious have put a few purchases through on ebay via the link… how long does it take to appear on velocity points history??

      • Takes up to a month for them to 'verify' the transaction.

        Don't sweat it folks.

        • Looks like i'm not the only one… poopehz (lol) it should come up as 'pending' after 48 hours though.

        • if your purchases have registered, they send you an email within 24 hours to that effect. no email, no points.

        • It looks like my eBay purchase was not recorded even though I did go to eBay through the eStore…. is there a way to solve this?

        • agree , not working, ive enabled cookies used the link provided on velocity but nothing appears in pending and no email received :(

        • I made 8 purchases on Friday over 2 different computers and none have registered after the 24hour wait the site states despite logging in via the estore on every occasion. :(
It would only be a total of 100 points, but still.

On the plus side, my cash back for the GoPro I bought on Torpedo7 registered. $390 GoPro Hero3 Black = $36.14 cash back :D

        • The Velocity ones finally came through. I got 10 emails from them at once saying they are tracking them now.

  • In fact, most of my purchases on eBay have now come through. I note though that the points are less than 4x $ amount. Velocity states that most retailers don't pay points on GST or shipping. How would GST be applicable on eBay I wonder?
