arghhh the engrish burns my eye's. Seriously though, the descriptions make you think its something completely different on some of these items.

Thank you. You've just solved my problem of what to buy my secret santa recipient at work this year!

  • Does anyone have experience with Rakuten when coming to their watches?

They look pretty reputable and seems a few JDM's for seiko and citizen and what not

    • I've bought a G-Shock off Rakuten, got it within the week.

I have a few friends who have also bought watches off Rakuten, the shipping is always pretty fast and with EMS tracking.

    • Japan's an excellent place for watches! I wouldn't hesitate - I purchased an Omega there for less than half the price it would cost me here.

  • straight into ono/flathead/momotaro denim. Thanks OP.

For those of us not up with $y vs $au
    10000yn ~ $110

  • I've always wanted to buy something from this marketplace. Thanks!

  • May 11 - Early Childhood shipping

  • How can we check the shipping cost?
Is there an easy way to check the total shipping cost (less than 3,000) or check if the store is participating without looking at the list?

Jeez, this is going to get messy. Rakuten is my crack cocaine.

Seems pretty cheap. Bought the shit out of it.

  • Oh yes, Japanese goodies :)

  • wow i just spent $20 shipping for my hori products ):

    • what happened? Did you buy off the list?
Edit: sorry I'm guessing you meant you bought them before today.

      • yes i bought them from amazon through ichiba japan.

the total of screen protectors, hard case and tpu soft cover came out to $44 but because of the crappy XR and delivery costs, it came to $64 ):

  • OHHHH it's worth mentioning that 10000yen is near $100 AUD

Sweet. I absolutely adore Japanese housegoods.

I placed in an order for a couple of these lunch boxes http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/pro-douguya/item/ou-fu-db… and a thermal canister. I think they're knock-offs of these http://www.amazon.com/Zojirushi-SL-JAE14SA-Bento-Stainless-S… which I've been wanting but cost way too much to import from amazon.

Rakuten sent me a order confirmation but I'm still waiting for the official order confirmation from the store so I can pay. Hope there won't be stock issues.

    • mmm, I like the design of those bento containers……Not sure sadly if I'd use it though and i've been spending way too much recently of frivolous purchases…..

      • For me I pack lunch for workdays every night before, so convinced myself will be using them. Lol. They also appeal to me cause the sizes look right for healthy portion controlling.

I placed an order for 2 sets to meet the minimum 10k yen but only need one set. The seller still hasn't gotten back to me … am wondering if the order will actually go through. In the event it does, any chance you'd be interested in taking one set for the converted AUD price? Or anyone else on ozbargain interested?

Gah I'm screwed this time, I bought a watch from one of the sellers that is participating in this promo and they charged me delivery! Wtf, item is over 10,000 yen and shipping quoted is under 3000 too, and what's worse is they won't reply to my email because they don't speak English lol epic fail.

    • Damn. How did you pay? Direct credit card? Have they charged you yet?

      • Yes, I paid by CC, and they took it all from me, I've sent them 10 emails, and they have refused to reply, but keep sending me emails saying the order is confirmed is shipped. I swear I thought Japanese handle shit better, I was wrong, just as much idiots to avoid. If you're going to trade on GLOBAL rakuten, have some bit of english god damn it.

        • Might be a long shot, but maybe you can dispute the transaction with your credit card provider as an unauthorized transaction? Or forward your compaint to Rakuten themselves at https://ichiba-en.faq.rakuten.co.jp/app/ask1 ?

        • Try Google Translator - I sent a seller a message with a google translated Japanese and he sent back a reply in english… it was probably poor japanese so he could tell it was translated but it got the message across clearly enough.

        • I emailed rakuten contact, no reply, and also did the google translate thing, they didnt reply but proceeded to ship it out and charge my CC, unprofessional bastards. I've read on some watch forums that rakuten has a good share of poor japanese business's who refuse to listen.

        • Man that really sucks. Feel bad for you. Keep us updated if anything changes.

        • One more long shot. Does the supplier have an official phone number? I would try giving them an international call during their operating hours (through free international calls offcourse). Sure they won't speak English but maybe with perserverance they may have enough of a broken understanding to make out what you're saying.

    • WHOA.

  • Just an update from my end. My order never went through.

I elected to use paypal and received an auto-generated pre-invoice from Rakuten telling me to wait for the shop to send me a full invoice.

The shop owners never sent me a completed invoice. And yes, I've checked my spam folders - still no.

    • sorry to hear that! It's Sad to see that we have to rely on sites like these to find are more obscure Japanese items :(

      • Ah I guess it's not too bad. I probably should count my blessings actually. Could have been Winston up above if I elected to pay by credit card.

        • Frack me. They finally just sent me the invoice. Wasn't expecting that.
          However …

          Subtotal 9,849 ( yen )
          Overseas fee 491 ( yen )
          Shipping 4,700 (yen ) Gross Weight 2385g

My order came under 10,000yen so I get shipping? When I added to the cart I thought this "overseas fee" or whatever was part of the cost hence thought I was over 10,000 yen. Turns out no, I fell short.

Will write a hasty google-translated email requesting they chuck another thermal canister on top and update my total, but am not holding my breath on this.

Edit: if anyone can read Japanese, can you tell me what this is saying? Google translator is giving me weird phrases like "No Please check please" and "not please contact us as soon as possible". So … can I reply to them or not?

I did a google translate and it seems like this seller is denying me a change to my order to bump over 10,000yen.
So I'm going to turn this down. If I'm going to pay ~50aud in shipping, I might as well get the official version of the bento boxes I wanted from amazon US.

        • damn all the bother for nothing….. good luck with your amazon purchase then. :)

    • Well. Just for archival purposes if anyone stumbles onto this thread in the future - the sellers actually got back to me. We had a few back/forth emails but what happened is they seemed to change the person who was contacting me and this person was actually pretty helpful via google translator.

I wrote to them in English and used colour highlighting and "<- ?" symbol to mark the bits of the invoice that made no sense to me.

Guy on the other side explained to me that my shipping came to 5,400 and I was 2,400 yen over the 3,000yen free shipping, so I'd have to pay the surplus. So their calculations were correct. Lol, being the bogan that I am I can't believe I didn't realize that. I ended up cancelling the order cause the correctly tallied total was on the expensive side for me.

Moral of the story I guess is that the pro-douguya supplier is actually quite responsive and helpful. And pretty polite too. But reading Winston's comment up above, I don't know if they're the standard or the anomaly on rakuten though.

      • Sounds like we need to make some Japanese friends……. (I've been hoping for a girl named Asuka, but thats just me….)

        • +1

Asuka is a bit brash for me. For the last decade I've been hoping for a boy named Kaworu ;)

        • atleast it ain't Shinji!

        • Hey! Wouldn't mind Shinji Ikari either. Come on, he's a depressed teen who needs a bit of compassion. Too bad kids helpline doesn't exist in Evangelion world.

        • mmm….indeed. After all they all needed psychological help anyway :P Even the good Dr Akagi.
