    Monitor /TV?

It's an LED computer monitor. It's obviously an outdated model (isn't listed on the HN web site any more) but still quite good. Going by the pic there was 5 boxed monitors on floor stock.

Chances are it's probably nearly sold out by now if it hasn't. Better get down to the store rather than later.

      Monitor. Only 1080p for 27"

      • +9

        only $218 not $450+

      • +1

1080p is full high definition. What do you expect a 4K monitor for $218?.

        • +3

Monitors typically come in 2560x1440 at 27" but this is a low budget 27" monitor so 1080p is about right.

        • +3

Remember we are speaking of an old model here which is the reason why it's at a low $218. Older model 27" monitors didn't have higher than 1080p even the higher end one's. There was no WXGA readily available when this monitor was designed. Graphic cards couldn't even do higher than 1080p in that time. This wouldn't have been a low budget monitor when it was first designed and made.

I remember years ago seeing these monitors going on shop floors for about $900. That's when 27" LED monitors were high end.

It's really only the latest model 27" LED monitors (at about $600+) which have 2560 x 1080 display but your graphics card also needs to support WXGA. It's not like you're going to get a 27" monitor of that specs for $218.

Well you can watch all your blu-rays in full HD on this if you have a blu-ray burner :)

1080p is full high definition. What do you expect a 4K monitor for $218?.

'Full high definition' is pretty much just marketing buzz. 2560 x 1440 is a real and completely viable middle ground between the two (and, might I add, does not require an $800 graphics card) - and many would argue necessary at 27". Not viable for $218, of course, but Jawaiian never mentioned the price, merely the specifications.

It's really only the latest model 27" LED monitors (at about $600+) which have 2560 x 1080

I think you mean 2560 x 1440. 2560 x 1080 is a 21:9 aspect ratio, and is really only found on 29" monitors. In any case, it's still important to note that 1080p on a 27" display might not look so wonderful, regardless of price.

        • Yes i do mean was a typo.

      Monitor

As much as I don't like 1080 on a 27" for PC use, $218 is bloody cheap!

+1 for simply linking to what appears to be a monitor without gloss
    Praise be.

    • Yes some of the older model monitors like this one didn't have a glossy screen.

      • Well not all new monitors have a glossy finish.

        • I love monitors with glossy finish, as long as you have the blinds pulled up its ok.

      • Yes some of the older model monitors like this one didn't have a glossy screen.

Not just the screen, but the cabinet. Screen can sometimes be justified being gloss (more vivid picture), but the cabinet (frame) of the monitor being gloss is totally without merit, in my opinion. It's more likely to get distracting reflections from basically any light source and more prone to fingerprints and visual appearance of dust and other nonsense. I'll never understand why nearly all TVs and monitors are finished in glossy plastics (aside from the whims of stupid fashion).

        Anyway, great to see matte.

    • Yes it's that one. The monitor has VGA & DVI-D inputs. As long as your computer has a DVI output there are no worries but you can buy DVI to HDMI cables such as this one. Use that cable if your computer only has HDMI outputs (such as laptops) and don't want to use crappy VGA.

  • Went to Ballarat store, but didnt see any :(

  • Another prime example of 'LED' branding. LG might as well made the word fill the entire face of the box, just to make consumers look a little more uneducated.

  • I got one there is only one demo left

  • I am using the monitor right now.

It has no height or tilt adjustment, and no VESA mounts so stand cant be replaced. and only one of each DVI and VGA port.

After about 12 Months the monitor has started to lean slightly forward, which has been fixed with a folded bit of cardboard. The picture quality is I would say average.

All that being said - I am actually really happy with the monitor. I paid a bit less than this on Ebay.

Some of the best things are that with the 27" I can edit two A4 size documents side by side. Gaming is also better than on my previous 20"

EDIT: I have the E2711 - I think this model - the E2711t - might have height and tilt adjustment and VESA mounts. If so awesome buy.

    • According to this the E2711T model does have adjustment hight, swivel and tilt but it doesn't have VESA. It's an even better monitor than that E2711 model you bought off ebay.

      • It's a great buy. The picture is not an IPS display but size mattters! :)

    • I have the E2711 (HN special for $300ish ages ago). It definately has VESA mounts - I threw away the incuded stand and bought a monitor arm to suspend it above my desk. It's not particularly vibrant, but perfect for everyday PC display.

  • what's the point, the pixels on a 1080p 27" are too big, and you can grab a 1080p 24" for easily under $200

    • +1

bigger display, why do you think people purchase 50" TVs @ 1080p?

    • +1

This monitor does look better with my glasses of. Human Anti-aliasing.

    • Given the ugliness of Windows' scaling, it's maybe a good option for someone with poor eyesight or who for some reason sits two armlengths from the monitor. Or someone who does little else but play games and can't afford a GPU that performs well at greater than 1080p.

For general use, though, it seems like a poor choice.

    Heads-up:

excerpt from http://boingboing.net/2013/11/19/lg-tv-phones-home-with-your… about LG TV data collection:

Doctor Beet was alarmed to notice that his LG TV was showing him ads on its home screen; he investigated and discovered a hidden, undocumented setting to switch off collection of his viewing habits. Still suspicious, he monitored the packets flowing from his TV's network interface and discovered that even with the "data-collection off" setting engaged, the TV still phoned home with the name of every program it showed, as well as the filenames of every video he loaded over its USB interface. All of this data was sent in the clear to LG's servers.

Perhaps of little consequence, but, certainly worth being aware of.

    • This is a monitor with no 'Smart' capabilities whatsoever, so it's not particularly relevant, no.

    • Good article even though it's not relevant to this product. Our data is being bought & sold constantly. I wish more people would be more aware of this. We are basically being spied on with so many devices we use.
