seems like a good budget gaming rig if you add a decent low cost graphics card like 7850?

would jump on it if i had a bank balance.. or gamed still :p

    • Going to need an OS to game as well…

    • Budget gamers could see if there's any of these 7850s left, from $119:
      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/122471

But provided that PSU's OK, You could probably put almost any GPU in it. A desktop i3 at 3.4 Ghz won't be far behind the fastest i5 and i7 in games, except maybe the newest more multithreaded engines (BF4?), but even then, I can't see it being much of a bottleneck. Maybe a few FPS less?

Chuck in any of the 7950 or even 7970s from recent deals for a pretty powerful gaming rig for around $700, perhaps.

  • the only thing it got going for it is the intel and that is a dual core, which should be i5 instead. whoever assembles this stuff needs to focus on the cpu, case and powersupply. forget the DVD, HDD. the GPU should be optional depending on the customer.

Actually, in benchmarks, a 3.4 Ghz desktop i3 is about on par with the fastest i5 and i7 CPUs in everything except heavily multi-threaded stuff.

Some of the new game engines will be multi-threaded enough to see a slight difference, but for this price, it's close enough. You'd beat plenty of $1000 gaming rigs in game performance with the right GPU in it.

Crappy, crappy PSU. Don't expect to be able to put in mid-high graphics card in there without worrying about if it will hold up or not.

I thought this was a valid point? would maybe add 'long-term' to the end of the comment..

half the memory, half the HDD, weaker PSU and no HDMI port. although they do have an extra year of warranty

i would say the extra dollars on this one is worth it

it's funny they list the previous gen i3 as an upgrade option
