  • Seems like a good way to get an AMEX card for their offers. FWIW, unless I'm missing something the points can be redeemed at a rate of 18,000 for a $100 Coles gift card: https://shop.velocityfrequentflyer.com/award/detail/coles-10…. This makes the 7,500 point offer worth about $40.

    • 18,000 points is enough for a ~$200 flight between Perth and Brisbane (for myself at least) so $100 gift card might not be worth the points unless you don't fly often enough.

    • Or 9000 points for $50 voucher, or 4500 points for $25 voucher, etc. https://shop.velocityfrequentflyer.com/award?categories=cars…

Personally, I like the vouchers but the best value for money/points is on flight upgrades. 7400 points can get a business class upgrade on up to 1200 mile flight, eg. MEL-BNE is 874 miles.

Disclosure: I work for Virgin but not Velocity or Amex so didn't tick rep box.

  • It's good for when you can actually get vendors to accept it. 7.5K Velocity points won't get you very far so you need to be flying quite a lot to make them worthwhile. Amex has a good website, but it's not much use if you don't really get anything out of it.

  • That Harvey Norman and David Jones cashback offers didn't show my my Gold Velocity Amex card though in case anyone is wondering. Could be different for others though. Have been able to sign up for a few though, like that woolworths online one a little while back, sadly i haven't used it yet though.

In the term and conditions it says you have to spend $300 on it in the 1st 3 months.

    • It does say that in the OP…

Not really a bargain. There's an essentially identical ongoing deal for the Qantas Discovery Amex with 7500 FF points bonus.

    • what if you are not interested on Qantas then? Show a better velocity option to be more constructive.

It's true, except for the fact that it takes about double the amount of Qantas frequent flyer points than Velocity points to redeem a comparable flight. I just redeemed about 9K points Sydney-Launceston one way with Velocity, and it's about double for the same flight with Qantas from last research.

      • I didn't get the "except" thing, as I too prefer velocity.

  • The Signature card gives a couple of lounge passes but are only good fro MEL, is that correct?
