Free Zinio Magazines for Brisbane City Council Library Patrons

520

Free Zinio Magazines for Brisbane City Council Library Patrons has just been launched. I know this has been available in other libraries for some time, but given that BCC is the biggest Council in Australia, there are now a whole bunch of people who may benefit from seeing this in a separate post.

  • Aww c'mon Sydney City Council!

  • Pretty good selection on offer (including The Economist), unlike some libraries that only have a very limited Zinio range. :)

    • yes this council has a very good range (catalogue 23 pages) - just looked up my local library, 11 pages…

Indeed. Melbourne Library has only FOUR pages.

      • LOL, yep — in fact, Melbourne Library is what I was thinking of when I made that comment about the limited Zinio range of some libraries. I don't know a library that has a smaller selection! :P

Thankfully Melbourne Library isn't the only library I'm a member of that has Zinio though — between 5 different libraries I have access to most of the titles I want.

    • Well, they have PC Powerplay at least. You can also choose between "Beading", "Bead Monthly" and the "Beading Bible". I can hardly wait.

  • Been waiting patiently for BBC to get on board with this. Awesome, cheers OP!

Hopefully that was a typo and you weren't expecting the British BBC to have gotten onboard (Top Gear Magazine! LOL)

  • Awesome! Australian Property Investor & Men's Health are pretty good.

  • I can't have Sydney city council online account. sad. Mind to share? lol

Thanks - now to find my library card number!

  • Zinio android version was downloading magazine in the background using mobile data. I specifically unticked the box not to download under wireless connection, this option is just a joke. Not happy.

It's 2013 and people still struggle with mobile data ? lots of carriers offering good data deals eg woolworth mobile 29$ every 45 days gives you 3 GB.

      • woolworths mobile no longer available to new customers, and it is 5GB.

  • This technically should in the forums.
Though I suppose this is interesting because Brisbane is by far the largest municipality in Australia (by population). But its normal price.

Of course all libraries have free magazines, books and newspapers. All in WA have Zinio.

    • Thought you were going to say 'All in WA have Zip'!!

    • I for one am grateful that it is on the front page as I don't browse the forum.

      Thanks OP.

Keep it coming with good free finds.

      Cheers.

  • I just signed up for the Melbourne version online. All I needed was a Melbourne address and the barcode number they give you at the end. No need to go into the physical library to get a membership card :). I just went nuts adding the Melbourne library to my personal zinio account.

Haven't tried it yet but I'm pretty sure all we need to sign up and access the Brisbane/other city libraries is a Brisbane/other cities address. Maybe I'll try googling up a residential McDonald's address …

    • Edit: darn. Just checked. Can't be done. Have to walk into a physical Brisbane library to sign up.

  • Great, I have had Zinio app installed on my phone for last 3 months in anticipation. Good work BCC :)

  • Thanks for the heads up, I have been waiting for BCC to offer this.

  • Just created an account. How long do you have to read them before they expire?

    • I've been using Zinio with my local library for about 6 months now. The issues don't expire; they stay in your Zinio account.

  • Thanx Adam for the post, fantastic. Good job Brisbane City Council. They are the best!

On another note, I now got myself confused: I end up with two accounts: one my "old" Zinio one, and now this BCC. And it let me use the same email address. I now have two different passwords and I am totally confused.
Might have to clear cache and come back? Time for a cup of tea.
