  • Why on earth would they offer both E10 & ULP - talk about a waste of a storage tank. Just offer E10?!?!

    • Just offer ULP, my manufacturer recommended against E10

      • If your car does not accept E10 then you buy PULP. If you go to the US, all the servos there have E10 in the cheapest petrol already - they don't even bother to advertise it anymore. We are way behind the times here by still offering a choice.

ULP is fine for my car…

Anyway, E10 is up to 8% less efficient so it would end up costing more

    • Isn't E10 slightly less efficient than ULP? I heard you get about 4% less kilometers for the same volume, which is pretty much in line with it costing 4% less.

      • Doesn't matter - it is inevitable that E10 will replace ULP. Yes, it's less efficient but it's better for the environment as you are using 10% less crude. The servos here in Australia only offer us a choice still because of all the old junker cars that are still around in Australia. In the US & Europe this is not even an issue anymore.

not if people won't buy it… many servos has stopped selling E10

you have to use more E10 to get the same distance, which cancels any benefits…

Yup, my local servo only has 1 pump (so 2 sides) of E10, but has 3 pumps of 91. Don't have 98 though…

        • @jv: well, if the numbers truly are 4% efficiency loss and 10% ethanol, then the benefits aren't totally cancelled. It's just that it's not 10% better than ULP, more like 5 or 6%

      • My last car (Mitsubishi 380) had exactly the same l/km whether E10 or 91. Only difference I saw was if I went up to 98. I guess YMMV

I find my economy can vary by 10% or more just based on where I go and how agressively I drive, so I don't think I could detect a ~5% difference myself. That could be different for you though :)

  • 131.7 ULP Frankston VIC

Is this where Geoff Shaw buys his fuel ???

  • Is this a new servo on the NW corner of the intersection or has it taken over the old Mobil on the SE corner?

A word of caution. This is a new servo and has plenty of water in the tanks. A friend who is an RACV call out guy has had six cars die in the last week. All of them had just filled up at this servo. Hopefully this problem won't last, but there is a very good reason they are trying to shift their fuel.

Good old Franger, I miss it

  • Caltex at the bottom of Olivers Hill Frankston also has the same prices.

  • The theory is that ethanol burns faster then ULP is true, but in reality its hard to be exact when doing any tests since there is so many variables.

But United E10 is 95 and is a good compromise, not quite as good as 98 or 100 but its priced 15-20c per litre cheaper so it can be a good compromise.

I don't see much difference in klm per tank, maybe 20klm less to a 65ltr tank when compared to ulp. Most of that would be a heavier right foot since the power difference is night and day.

My parents car has 10.5:1 compression, mum was using 91/92 cos shes a tight arse, I put united 95 in it and it stopped pinging.

  • All up (including nearby 7-Elevens, Caltexes etc.) today, good while it lasted.
