thats not much of a good deal, come back when they are 400!

      It is when it's a $200 difference to Dell's own pricing at www.dell.com.au($699). Ie: it's 71.4% of Dell's price.

  • Its a shame that the Mini 9 has a terrible keyboard layout.

  • Isnt that the price Dell had them before they upped the price twice?

    • I think you might be right - $499 was what they were charging for pre-sales to compete with the other netbooks prior to their release.

    • Yes, definitely was $499, went up $100.

  • this is only $474.05 if you get officeworks to match it.

  • perfect for a hackitosh

    • exactly…

  • good deal if buy from ow

  • The main thing I don't like about this machine is the 16GB SSD, it just seems a bit too small for todays uses. I know it's SSD but the size does matter when it's this small.

    • u could stick a 16GB SD card in it for $50

      • Yep.. SD card is the cheap way to do it. Runcore pci-e SSD is the performance option. Available from http://www.mydigitaldiscount.com with 80MB/s read/write (or so they claim). 32GB=$119US, 64GB=$219US. Add $20 delivery. Offers far lower latency than any HDD.

For a portable web browser, email viewer, and "student" applications; this is perfect.
It’s not as though you can play games that require 5+GB of HDD space.
      Why would you need 160GB?

If this is your primary laptop, you will be disappointed in the speed more than the lack of hard drive space.
That’s what 2.5” external drives are for ;-)

For me it's the lack of F11/F12 key. Actually the lack of function key row is just wrong. Otherwise it's a nice little machine at a good price. 16GB SSD is more than enough IMHO.

I second that. The ommission of the F key's means that I probably won't even consider this model if I were to buy a netbook in this size.

Their 10" model has the F keys though. I use the F keys all the time.

  • I love how Dell stick up the RRP of the Dell Mini by $200, and then when it falls back to the regular price people think its a special deal. Much better netbooks available for a similar price. Dont be fooled.

  • Dell Mini 9 just got another price competitor:

    10.2" $499 Lenovo S10 Atom 270-1.6/533 1GB 160GB 3-cell expressport www.ksonline.com.au/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flyp…

NOTE: BenQ Joybook U101 supports hybrid SSD+HDD setup according to BenQ specs.
