Guys if you treasure good sound, please do not buy ear buds like these.

They may have been great in the 80's / 90's when we were sans another option.

But now we have In Ear Canal phones which are fundamentally so much better designed.

For that price get CX-300 (retail price).

    • while i agree for the most part about earbuds, that is not entirely true.

if you do a search, some people think the MX980 sound better than the IE8/IE80 (sennheiser's previous flagship IEM, before the IE800), which cost multiple times the price.

the MX980 are indeed high quality (and i'm guessing the OMX980 are the same thing, just with the ear hooks).

they will without a shadow of a doubt sound better than the CX-300, except have less (but potentially better) bass. as one review put it: "clearly another league compared to CX 300, 400, 500 and the like." (i haven't listened to the CX-300 for a long time).

WARNING: they are very big earbuds…if you have small ears, you should avoid!

We had this conversation about the last earbud deal :P

Some people just don't care for IEM's. If you want a good sounding pair of earbuds (with all of the acknowledged drawbacks!) you'll be hard pressed to find better than these. Full price is way too high, but at this price it's a great deal! It is true that most people prefer IEM phones these days, but a lot of people find them just too invasive to be appealing.

Personally, I think anyone who is truly serious about sound quality would buy a full sized set of cans anyway!

        yeah we did! :)

and i was even on the "other side" of the argument (sort of) supporting IEMs! :)

Glad you liked your MX980's! I certainly enjoy mine.

        • they are a bit too big for my ears so fit is a bit of an issue (as everyone warns!), but yeah, they sound great!

would probably be better off with these OMX980 with the earhooks…but no, in the last three weeks i have bought MX980, UE6000, M-100 and today just acquired D2000! so i need to resist!!! :)

          edit: maybe! ;)

Lucky I have big dumbo ears. hehe.

You could always sell your MX980s (for a profit!) and purchase these as a replacement.

  • Sennheiser's IE800 - arguably the best earbuds in existence today - will set you back about 10 times the price. I seriously doubt that they will be 10 times the sound quality of the OMX980.

For what it's worth, I got CX980 during a similar deal on another site, which I suspect was really a pricing error, and can confirm that they sound very good indeed regardless of the price. For the price, they are spectacular.
