Wow, approx. 20% off Macbook Air? Is this for real?

    • +3

Yeah if you can find stock. Pretty dodgy of Dick Smith to post such a good deal when they know that the majority of their stores don't have it in stock. For example only 3 stores in W.A. have it available for click and collect.

      • +1

You can always get David Jones matching DSE deals as they are both operated by DSE now.

        • +1

When the hell did that happen?

        • Has anyone had any luck trying to match at DJ?

        • That's not right - Dick Smith have come to an agreement where they will be opening Dick Smith branded stores in David Jones stores but different owners. DJs is listed on the ASX for one thing.

unless you mean Dick Smith own the branded kiosks in DJs - in which case, spot on :)

        • +1

What's noteworthy are the issuer of the receipts is still David Jones under DJ's ABN and they do not accept DSE's gift cards.

    • +1

Available in at least two stores in adelaide

    • My dad managed to get a manager to put one aside for him tomorrow.

It's a pretty good deal but it is only $10 cheaper than buying refurb from apple store online for $1059 and receiving the $50 amex credit. That said it's refurb vs brand new - some people might prefer brand new. I have always bought refurb macs and never been disappointed.

    • staff used to get 20% for 2days a year.

    • I think there's no chance to grab it at dse tomorrow, the only hope is we can price match it somewhere else. man it's ttempting, I can get gst + salary sarifice, that's a lot of savings

    • Just got a Macbook Air from Apple with the $250 off, price matching in Bondi Junction!

      Great deal, so stoked!

  • oo! epl-3 for $199

    • Good price but comes with stock lens only.

      • By no means a bad lens though. I've achieved some very pleasing results with it.

The flyer mentions a touch screen. Pretty sure the EPL-3 does not have touch.

    • +11

      It's the first gen.

      • +1

    • +4

I don't think its the latest as it doesn't mention retina display.

    • +2

I think it's the old model, not the new retina…

    • +2

That would be the 1st gen I'd assume.

      • +1

        In terms of CPU power
        iPad mini = iPad 2
iPad mini with retina = iPad Air

    • +11

Because no one else has pointed this out yet, it's the old model.

      • +8

jv's been reduced to a nobody these days? :P

    • +1

its the same as a lcd tv, if it does not say FULL HD, assume its just HD

    • Guys, it's the old model. Can't believe no one's pointed this out yet.

    • I don't believe it's the latest model but I could be mistaken. Does anyone have any knowledge about them?

    • +2

Sweet thanks. Is it the old model or the new one?

    • The new model this isn't. Just incase you were wondering. Or in other words, this is the old model.

      • So its the old model then?

    • +2

But does it FEEL like it's young?

    • just letting everyone know its the old model.

    • +1

      such old model
      wow
      many similar comments
      much Doge.

  • +6

Did they say they were holding some stock for customers?

    • +11

Dick Smith: Where our "family and friends" sale is actually for regular customers, and our regular sales all have no stock once the staff have had their pick for themselves and their family and friends.

  • +2

can i just show them on the phone instead of printing it out?

  • +10

where are the gift cards I ordered last week?

  • Thanks OP.

  • +6

It doesn't say excludes G27 which is 40% off - so 379 - 151.60 = 227.40 which is roughly $65+ cheaper then anything on staticice

    • Does it work on ps4?

      • +1

Not according to those who have tested.

    • -2

it says headphones and doesn't say 40% logitech in general so I would assume not.

      • +1

yeah it does say 40% off logitech G series gaming products on the third page

        • yeh so even if unintentional they need to honor it

        • 4th page

    • I've picked up a g27 for $227.00 - I can post my reciept if anyone wants to try price matching at JB or similiar.

  • +1

This is why they are holding back on the gift cards from this previous deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/123849

  • +5

awesome price for the macbook air 13inch. 20% off

  • +5

$288 for Nexus 7. OW is going to be busy tomorrow.
Good price for Kindle Paperwhite Gen 2 - $152.

    • +1

Wouldn't think so as it's a restricted offer.

      • hmm so this won't price match at office works then?
and how does the ow price match work do they call around and check stock or not?
and is 273.60 the best one can get for a Nexus 7 32gb or should I wait for a better price?
also how do I check Dicksmith stock levels didn't there used to be a link on their item page? edit figured out how you need to add it to the cart then choose click and collect what a pain.

Digging through the Dicksmith flyer and the OW LPG I don't see anything that should stop OW from not matching.

        OW LPG excludes the following

"What items are excluded from the LPG?

Non identical products and services (inclusive of non identical warranties)
Package deals i.e. printer and computer bundles
        Cash back and coupon offers
        Resellers
        Customer special orders
        Contract Pricing
        Competitor clearance products

" non of which this sale applies.
They also say they'll price beat on sale items too. " even if it's on sale, we will not only match it, we'll beat it by 5%."
        Lowest Price Guarentee page

So that leaves the question being can I arrive at OW store opening which is an hour before Dick smith opens and they'll have to trust the Dick smith stock checker online…

    • +1

The Dick Smith catalogue starting Thursday has the Nexus 7 + $50 Dick Smith Gift Card for $339. Almost the same price (if you were planning on buying something else from Dick Smith).

      • And if you get staff discount or plan to use the TRS for a GST refund you'd be much better off just going with the catalogue deal.

    • Thanks, got a Kindle :-) That's one xmas present down, countless to go….

    • Heads up for the Nexus 7 32gb 2013 if you were thinking of LPG'ing it at Office works LPG the MSY stock it's on sale at $279 which brings the LPG at OW to $265.05

      • Link to MSY please, I can't see it listed on their site.

  • Dammit, those Seagate Central 4TB ones are attractive… wish my gift cards would turn up! :(

Wonder if officeworks would price match this? Kind of doubt it…

  • +2

$89 for the Telstra Frontier 4G is good, cheapest I have seen. JBHifi Clearance at $99 was the best previously

  • Can I go to OW & ask for 5% off as per their policy ?

    • as this is just a flyer, without the staff card needed, officeworks should be able to price beat?

  • +1

BOGOF on the 6-port surgeboard….still waiting on a deal on their 8-port board….

    • Yeah same here.

      • -2

Opened the one I got from previous deal. Your handy Dremel will cut open the blocked hole for those 2 extra plug points. Took me about 10 min to upgrade from 6 to 8. LOL!

        • if you're going to say something like that at least give out some warning. some one might electrocute themselves or burn their house down if they don't know what they're doing

  • -2

It's making it hard to boycott Dick Smith with prices like these. Nevertheless, these guys will not get my business again.

    • +4

Don't worry, there's no guarantee any of this is in stock anyway.

    • +5

      Well the T&C's say:
"All prices advertised are inclusive of all discounts, including staff discount. These offers cannot be
used in conjunction with any other offer
. No rainchecks. No layby. No further discounts apply."

      No misleading advertising here….

      • Misleading would be the "save $51". People with staff discount would actually pay more using this offer (with no further discount) compared to the regular catalogue after staff discount and $50 gift card…

    • and it says "Excludes already advertised lines" on each panel

      • -2

It says so where they mention whole brands. Specifically singling out one product and then excluding it would be kind of a joke.

The fact that they were very careful about their wording for all other items (like "further 7.5%" and "excludes …") would suggest that this could shape up to be the best ever price for a new Nexus 7 32 GB.

        As I wrote, + or - after tomorrow's checkout experience…

        • +2

It clearly says this "These offers cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer", that covers the entire flyer.

        • -1

In which case this item in this flyer would be a bad deal. A one day special for staff and friends that is worse than the weekly special for the general public…

        • +1

No, you are making the assumption that some ones wants to or will ever buy an item for $50 or greater form DSE in the future.
A gift card is only good if it is used.

    • +1

Imo this deal is already a "+" considering the entire flyer.

      • If you are interested in any of the other products it may well be a "+" for you.

For me the quality of this deal for the only product I am interested in is not yet clear.

I only vote on deals where I am interested in the product one way or another.

    • -1

Interesting to see someone down-vote this comment. Care to explain why?

Either the comment highlights an amazing opportunity based on this deal - or it shows a problem with this deal. The information should be useful for anyone in the market for a Nexus 7…

      • +2

Because their "save $51" is based off regular prices, not current promotions or best historical price.

Do your own research, take responsibility and stop wanting everyone else to do the work for you.

        • -2

Sorry mate, who did I ask to do any work for me?

        • +3

          no ones your mate.

      • +1

I would down vote that comment 4 times if possible as it is just so wrong.

        • -1

          What is wrong? Please explain.

Quite seriously, I am trying to find out how this comment could possibly have offended anyone. Down voting without comment or commenting without any explanation does not help with that.

Just assuming someone is in the market for a Nexus 7, which of the following would be the best deal:

Baseline: catalogue price of $338, paying 5% less using Wish gift card at checkout, receive $50 giftcard: effective price $271.10
Option 1: this flyer no further discount: price $288
Option 2: combine catalogue with flyer, pay $288, get $50 gift card: effective price $238

          Option 1: bad deal, -
          Option 2: great deal, +

No way of knowing for sure until checkout tomorrow.

        • Actually there's two things missing up there:
Baseline: get GST refund via TRS, effective price $240
Option 1 and 2 pay with Wish gift card bringing prices down to:
          Option 1: $273
          Option 2: $223

          Still:
          Option 1: bad deal, -
          Option 2: great deal, +

        • +1

And don't forget to claim your Bonus Norton 369 Multi-Device 2 User Valued at $55 with any Android tablet purchase. And no you cannot use this offer in conjunction with Norton cashback. ;)

  • any good headphones and webcam in this deal under 30aud?

    • Maybe?
They do have sales on the headphones, though.

    • +1

I was keen on the G35 headset, but even with their 40% off they are still $1.40 more than MSY's retail price.

    • Last time they hid their good headphones like the Sennheiser and the Sony MDR1 range

  • the navman gps looks like a pretty good deal.

  • the macbook deal looks good, should I get it or there will be further sale for that type?

    • +2

This is the highest discount by far on non-discontinued models.

      • +1

thanks man, I might buy it, have been using the same macbook for 7 years now

  • How does click and collect work for dicksmith? Can I click and collect and then present this to ensure the item(s) I want are held?

    • +1

      They never hold. Good luck.

      • +1

They hold your items for 24hrs

        • +2

Correction: They are supposed to hold your item for 24 hours.

I actually successfully got my hands on something I'd Click and Collected from Dick Smith once - though it was in the wrong colour, and they did tell me they didn't have at first, and later that it was ready for pickup.

But yeah, most of the time they never set aside the item for you, and half the time they claim that was because they had no stock in the first place, even though their website said they did.

        • :( that's not positive news.

        • City Store places an order and you can pick up anytime when the stock comes in
