  • Do you think we can use this for PS4 preorder?

    • +8

@Xaphier - Yes, you are able to pre-order the PS4 and use a Dick Smith Gift Card as the method of payment however Dick Smith Gift Card redemption is only available in-store at this stage.

      • Will the card be delivered within Melbourne before next Friday?

      • Thanks rep!

  • Has anyone tried to use a recently purchased DS gift card at Woolworths stores and did it work?

  • +2

If only DS still had Wii U's.

  • Nice. You could buy a couple of these, get them to price match an iPad Air 128gb Cell and get it for around $900.

    Sweet, thanks OP!

Well, $998 with $102 left on giftcards OR buy 9 $110 cards for $900 and pay $8 with a price match from BigW. So $908 all up.

    • -1

DS rarely price match. Good luck.

      • +1
        • +6

"The price must not be below our cost price."
          ::snicker::

        • That's a strange rule. A competitor could keep pricing things lower to find out how much JB is buying items for.

      • My experience has been quite different. I've bought DVD players, VCRs, TVs, laptops and a bunch of other things over the years at competitors prices, or sometimes a little less, without too much hassle at all.

    • -3

I think that the use of gift cards would compromise your ability to haggle. There has never been a time where I've purchased a $1000 or more item from a big retailer like Dick Smith without getting at least 10% off anyway.

Reasonable course of action for a person who doesn't like to haggle, though, I guess.

      • +3

Don't see why. Haggle away and then when they finalize the sale and ask how would you like to pay produce the gift card.

  • Will the card be delivered within Melbourne before next Friday if ordered today?

    • -1

Gift Cards ordered today are likely to be dispatched on Monday via our express carrier, so you should have the card by Friday.

      • Fingers crossed! thanks for the prompt reply :)

      • Hey rep! If it is dispatched on Monday, how many more days does it take to be delivered to Melb CBD?
Would I be able to receive it by Wednesday because I have to get something from DS ASAP!! My previous order (a laptop) from DS only took a day after it is dispatched :)

      • Why and how could it take 4 whole business days via express post?

      • Wednesday has been and gone and no cards have been posted, poor form rep.

  • So around 9% off.

    • -3

      I think it's exactly 10% off? :P

      • No, not really

      • +4

$10 saving from $110 gift card
        = $9.09 saving from $100 gift card
        = 9.09% saving :)

      • nope, Lets say the price is $550.

10% off will bring it to $495.

        • +6

oh, OK,.. :( so many Math expert here :P my bad! he he he

        • +5

          1-100/110 = 9.09%

Ps. math expert would not even bother answer this question….

        • But you're not paying $550.. if you were, and it was 10% off $550, then yes, it would be $495..

But, you're paying $500.. which you get 10% extra for 'free'…

        • +6

Arghhh.. I'm confused now!! Regret I commented, mod please delete my comment :P

Lucky I am a musician and not mathematician :)))
          I can only count from 1 to 8 … 1234 1234

Let's just have a great weekend shall we, get the voucher if you need, live happy and simple. LOL

        • you only have 4 fingers on each hand?

        • +17

yeah,. the other 2 are the thumbs.. to give u two thumbs up he he he

        • And that's exactly why retailers often do $100 free $10 rather than $100 for $90. The former is 9% and the latter is 10%, but to most people they would think it's the same and assume they are both 10% off because of the rounded numbers.

  • Loss the most value if cannot be used in wollies and caltex like last year.

    • Can you use the ds card to purchase everyday wish cards which can be used at Woollies, Caltex etc?

      • No

  • What is the expiry date ?

    • The Dick Smith Gift Card and any unspent value expires 12 months from the date of issue.

      • +9

Hi Rep, Do you price match Target or BigW for iPad Air?

  • OMG, too many cards…

  • +1

Does DickSmith price match with Target or Bigw for an ipad air?

      • Yeah but this is their escape clause: 10) The price must not be below our cost price

        • Let's ask the Rep who's online now.

        • Well once they say no what can you do? You can't see their screen to see what their cost price is.

        • Big W aren't going to sell a big ticket item like current iPads (especially Apple products) at a loss. I don't see how they could argue that in this case, I would think it's more there in case say Officeworks sell off their Seagate 3tb HDD's for $70 each. They don't want heaps of people price matching that.

(That's my hopeful example because I'm in need of a 3tb HDD)

        • 16GB BigW- $568, OW - $568 & Target $558. I cannot trust DickSmith, they may say no just to escape. & also website doesnt mention expiry date.

        • Would still be cheaper even without price match as you would pay $598- $550 which is $548.

        • correct but I am waiting for Apple's Black Friday discount announcement.
as well as will try to get from USA - iPad Air - $479 + Free $100 Target giftcard! http://weeklyad.target.com/minneapolis-mn-55403/pages?code=T…

        • FYI Target in the US is a completly different company to the australian one.

iPhone 5s is released today as well per my research. Can rep confirm?

    • I would like to know this too.

  • Are there any exemptions as to what you can buy with them? I'm thinking Playstation Network cards

  • Rep, Can the GiftCard be sold out? there are lots/unlimited of stocks?

    • SHows up as low stock…

  • +3

    1) Click through the Velocity Rewards eStore as per http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/122739
    2) Buy same deal from Dick Smith eBay store at 4pts per $ on eBay
    3) Earn thousands of Velocity points on top!!

    boom!

    • -1

REP mentioned gift card redemption is only in store at the moment

      • Sorry, now I understand what you mean.

      • +2

Huh? No buy the gift card through their eBay store.
        Then redeem in store.

        EDIT: Apology accepted :)

    • Doesn't apply to gift certificates unfortunately. T&Cs:

Make a winning bid or Buy It Now purchase above $1 which is not in any of the following categories: Motors(Cars, Boats, Motorcycles, etc), Business, Industrial, Travel, Real Estate, Music, Gift Certificates, Charity & Non-Profit items, Lots More and Other Services (under the Services tab).

      • +1

Yes, but they haven't been listed under the gift card category but are under electronics which are eligible for the Velocity points. I did the same last year and received the points.

        • Wooo, good to know! :D

    • +1

ohhhh…. just the thing to bring the Kindle HDX 8.9" down a few bucks when they start selling it from early December! :P

  • perfect for the ps4. plus for me

  • Also available from their eBay store - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dick-Smith-110-Gift-Card-/2613358…

Don't forget to you use Virgin Velocity account to get 4 points per $1!

    • Having a look at their feedback they have 5 negatives on the gift card with ppl saying it takes over a month to deliver. Something to keep in mind if you want to use it on something straight away.

      • 5 negatives out of 100+ sold. I received mine within 3-4 days last year.

    • Showing up as $110 for the $110 gift card…

      • +3

Saw that too, one poor guy just paid full price for ten cards.

        • Rep,
Can you confirm we can do this eBay deal? It shows up on the eBay store page but when you click the link, it still takes you to full price gift cards.

        • was $100 and $500, obviously they just raise the price to stop ppl use this deal.

    • Do you think the seller loss money? as ebay charge 8% commission and paypal charge 2.4% + $0.30

  • Does DSE do often a 10% off iMac computers? Cause this can be a very tempting deal…

    • They have those sales fairly regularly. Even when they're not on sale you can go into a store and ask for 10% off and it would be likely that the sales person would give it to you.

      • +1

Thanks jon, actually I had a quick search for "DSE 10%off Apple" here on OZB and saw they have this deal every 2-4 months. If I can combine this deal and 10%off I can score a $2449 iMac for ~$2000, not bad at all ;)

    • Yes they do - it was on last week and finished on the 20th.

So there probably won't be one for awhile but JB Hifi and others may have one sooner and DSE will price match.

Someone is bound to have a sale for black Friday which will hopefully be better than the lamo Apple Store discounts.

  • -4

    Rep i want to buy - http://www.dicksmith.com.au/tvs/lg-55-139cm-full-hd-smart-3d…
anyway you can allow click and collect on the cards?

    • +1

Go instore, place a customer order "10%" which guarantees the sale price, go back when gift cards arrive and use them to pay the rest.

  • +1

Anyone know if we can use wish gift cards to buy these?

    • +3

Lol doubt it, otherwise you could use gift cards indefintely and keep making free money.

    • I just did

  • Does anyone know if DSE still accept Woolworths Limited Staff discount cards?

    Rep maybe?

I was told by a salesperson that this was extended and was increased to 7.5% but I fail to believe that.

    • Still accept discount cards, still 5%.

      • +2

No we accept it. It has been raised from 5% to 7.5& but only valid till december

  • Bought for a PS4. Thanks!

  • Can these gift cards be stacked to buy an iPad with, for example?

    • Yes they can.

  • Are they posting a physical card to your address? or are the gift cards just online codes?

    • last year they shipped physical cards to your address.

  • +1

Id buy a few cards but i dont see them being delivered until at least the end of next week and i want now. Why you dont just allow click and collect is stupid. No Deal Dick Smifs….

    • same. i needed one today but it wouldnt let me clik n collect so dick missed out on my $500

  • any1 know if i can use this card and cash payment combined? let say im getting ps4 bundle $700, so i use $550 from gif cards n $150 by cash.

    • +1

Yeap, they can split the payment at the counter in store.

      • cool thanks jon

  • It charges $4.95 delivery now.

    • My one still shows free delivery, but it keeps emptying my cart… then I re-add then I end up having $1000 worth of gift cards in my cart :s

      • I had the same problem. I ended going to the site in a new browser, logging in, updating my cart quantities and checking out in one go.
