  • i bought one from last deal, pricematched at officework. Pretty good portable laptop. easy to carry to uni

  • Can you upgrade anything on it? Like the RAM maybe?

    • +1

No I think they are not designed to open.

  • Pretty neat little set-up, I also pricematched one at Officeworks a month ago, though I replaced it yesterday with a Surface RT, which meets my needs just as well, so will end up selling my T100.
I do recommend it though, never had any issues with it.

    • how come you decided to replace it with Surface RT? Lighter/slimmer? Although the T100 tablet itself is quite light I believe

      • -3

lol replaced full Windows with RT, you are the first one.

I think he don't know what RT is?

        • …backwards compatibility…human style.

        • +1

though I replaced it yesterday with a Surface RT, which meets my needs just as well

Surface RT still is a powerful device, especially if all you're doing is word processing, browsing and checking emails

        • +3

I think he do know what RT is….

I replaced it because it is a limited use tablet, and really the design of the Surface is hard to ignore.

The tablet is used primarily when I travel to access work emails (Outlook), connect with work (Lync), deal with any work related stuff (Word + Excel) - so in summary, work - and then watching movies/tv on the plane - plus the obligatory web surfing.

I was at first scared of RT, however full windows is only necessary if I need desktop apps, and the only thing I don't have on my office and home PC's is spotify and torrents, which I can easily use my Lenovo Yoga Tablet or android phone for.

The T100 is a nice unit, but is a bit clunky, and just doesn't have the sleekness on the surface.
Things like the sound the keyboard makes, the toughness to open and the overall feel of it were enough to put doubt in my mind that I really liked it. Plus once you have a built in kickstand in a tablet (my Yoga 8 Tablet and now the surface) you wonder how you lived without one.

When I first turned the surface (Windows 8 RT) on and used it for about six hours, I noticed a lot of little annoying things that made me see why there is a backlash against it.
I did this deliberately, so when I updated to 8.1 RT overnight and played with it today, I could see the difference. And it's huge.
The additiona of Outlook, the 50/50 split screen and general speed improvements are brilliant.

So in summary, I think I do know what RT is, and for my uses, it suits me just fine.

He's not the first, I sold my ASUS VivoTab Smart (x86) and replaced with a Surface RT for the same reasons.

As bomber_bloke says, the design and build of RT is too hard to ignore.

Like many others I thought RT was pointless especially when I bought my VivoBook the RT was the same price. After using an x86 tablet and enjoying it, I realised most of the apps I use are Mail, Music and Internet Explorer. File management is nice which is covered nicely in Desktop mode. The full-size USB is actually a big advantage over other tablets despite how small microUSB connector are, it' just one less thing I need.

I watch movies but there are enough MKV player out now and VLC is coming out soon.

The VivoTab is actually worse than the T100 but the build quality while not bad was not great either. Screen attracted fingerprints like nothing I've ever seen and the speakers were so quiet a pair of earbuds would do a better even if they weren't in your ears. With the Surface RT, the integrated stand is awesome and the sleek premium finish makes it attractive. Screen is also much better and although I haven't had the RT long enough yet reviews suggest battery life is better too (as would be the sensors/WiFi).

Considering how many apps are now web-apps and that there is still Remote Desktop functionality, I can't actually think of too many x86 apps I need on the go. And I am a power user and have been for many years..

        • Judging by superforever's past comments, I don't think it's worth trying to convince him.

        • Yeah we are just kidding, the RT build quality is better and screen also better. If people don't need desktop apps it will be OK.

Actually when I use my Win8 ultrabook I seldom go to desktop but for me I would go for full Windows instead because I may need to bring it to work and don't know what I may need.

  • I still don't understand why we are paying $100 more in AU comparing to US for the same product.
Wish Amazon could ship to AU more often.

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FFJ0HUE/ref=s9_hps_bw_g1…

    • You have to add tax and exchange difference on that.

    • US->AUD exchange rate + GST + don't like Australia

    • Considering tax, and the fact that this is a physical item that needs to be shipped, $100 is actually pretty tame.

  • Is this with Australian warranty or grey import?

    • Sold by seller "futu online" — their items seem to be all in Sydney rather than grey imported.

      • …could still be grey import

  • Does anyone know if this will come with an Australian tax invoice?
