Humax HDR-7500T PVR Twin Tuner 500GB - $288 @ Good Guys or $289 @ Harvey Norman

110

Just saw this Humax 500GB PVR on sale at Good Guys (And surprisingly enough, also on sale at Harvey Norman).

Usually sells approximately $350 I believe.

Harvey Norman url - http://www.harveynorman.com.au/humax-hdr-7500t-hd-pvr.html

Quite a good PVR from the reviews i've read, especially for the price.

*Good guys mentions the Wi-fi adapter in their listing, so i haven't confirmed but it may come included. Might mention at Harvey Norman to get it included potentially too.

*Listed the expiry as 8/12/13 which is Harvey Norman's expiry. Unaware of the Good Guys expiry.

Keep in mind this model is 2 years old and the 7510 is available now/soon (just pre-ordered from Harvey's)

    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/humax-500gb-2-tuner-pvr.html?…

Biggest issue so far with new one is the "clicky" remote control but it has more DLNA and online features than old one. Also new one should have wireless adaptor in box for free.

I ordered it for $410, just need to paywave some gift cards now :P

    • Yeah, probably the reason for the sale price of these. Had been having a look at the new Humax, but hadn't seen many reviews, so had no idea what to think. Cheers for the info.

I think this model is still doing well considering it's age in the market, especially should you want to aim for something with a lower price tag.

      • True, $120 is $120. Maybe you don't get the wifi adaptor but maybe some people don't need it.

And I agree, info about the new one has been hard to find - even on Humax's website!

      • I was looking for a PVR a few months ago. Harvey had the 7500T for $318 and it included a $20 Harvey voucher. I decided against it for the following reasons:

        Bad sides:
        Hopeless codec support
        Remote control is not great
Model seems to be 2+ years old, new model coming out
The “padding” only allows you to record 20 mins after a show is meant to stop. Occasionally the show overshoots by more.

  • I purchased one from Harvey Norman several months ago for $319 and got a humax wifi stick off ebay for $15. must say I absolutely love this unit its smooth as and easy to use its never locked up or frozen like my old Topfield Trf2100 freeview unit. Perfect recording / playback.

  • I am looking for a PVR as a gift. I currently have a 2009 model Panasonic 250GB twin-HD recorder which I love. The best thing about it is that I can playback recorded shows at 2x speed (well it's around 1.7 speed) and the video AND audio work. On many other PVRs I have seen if you play at 2x only the video moves faster and the audio doesn't play. I find the 2x great for when you have a safety car in motorsports are "dead time" during spots events.

Anyone know if this model plays back both the video and audio when played at 2x?

    • (see Eggy's answer below)

    • There's actually a good, practical reason why Panasonic chose a lower than 2x speed with audio. I used to own a VCR that did 2x w/audio and unless you were watching a doco narrated slowly by Barry White, (or just like with an audio notetaker, a very slowly delivered, boring lecture), sped-up sound can get pretty irritating, pretty quickly.

As you've discovered, though, 2x alone is still really useful. All three of the PVR's I've owned have had it - not all early ones did. Wouldn't buy one without it - or good, stable 3 and 5x speeds, for that matter.

Incidentally, for people largely unaware of the Humax brand - they go way back. I bought one of the very early HD set-top boxes sold in Australia. It was made in its entirety for LG, by Humax.

I just bought one for 289, you can get a lifetime subscription to iceTV for $100 aswell. IMO, $400 with free iceTV is better than $450+ for the new model + $100 for iceTV. Can always play stuff off my laptop or server if codecs are a problem. First PVR for me and i'm happy with my purchase.

  • Well, good guys it is then! <fuels up car to drive 25km out of way>

    • Good luck! Would be great to know if it includes the Wi-fi adapter.

Just a heads up that HN and GG should be giving you the WiFi dongle for free with the current promotions. I bought at GG and they forgot to provide it and I had to go back to get it.

I have read that the HDR-7510T model has issues with the light that plasma TVs emit, which confuses the IR receiver causing the HUMAX to spaz out.

I just upgraded from a dying HDium, and the functionality of the HDR-7500T when coupled with ICE TV is amazing. I just tested the 2x speed, and it's without audio.

The HDR-7500T comes with 3 month trial of ICE TV, and the HDR-7510T comes with 5 months trial.

Also the $99 LIFETIME Ice TV subscription for HUMAX is actually only 5 years, but I feel that is still great value for money. :)

I think the difference in price between the HDR-7500T and HDR-7510T, you could get yourself a dedicated media player which is probably superior in handling all different codecs.

I got the Panasonic DMR 1TB twinTuner, it is wireless, DLNA, Internet, bl@@DY GREAT UNIT!! quality, hasn't missed a beat!! was on special at GG for $309, I missed the sales last month, but still got it for $318, GREAT!

  • Buy a second hand TiVo and whack in a WD green 2 gig drive, you will never pay for subscription and you can extend the recoding time heaps and since they update the data daily they know of show changes and the season pass function is still the industry standard…
