  • I was warned not to buy Gigabyte R9 cards as they explode.

    • +1

Are they seriously bad? I was thinking about buying one

      • They're notoriously loud (compared to other cards), but they're good. Run slightly hot but nothing a decentish cooling system can't handle. For this price I'd leap at it. "They explode" is.. uh.. hyperbolic at best :P

  • +38

Are they using the 290/x for the BBQ?

  • +55

Great place to meet hot chicks!

    • +2

      lol. Had to laugh.

      • +25

your doin it wrong. you dont meet chicks at a sausagefest dude, its a trap

    • -6

I think you mean hot chicks with dicks

  • +3

Why couldn't they do this for all stores? Why's it only for selected stores =/

    • +8

The other stores didn't have any sausages :)

    • +2

maybe because there are store like auburn where they are inside a building

  • +13

for once, it will be a real sausagefest

    • +1

Looks like a few are keen on this. :)

  • +3

Wouldn't trust those guys behind the counter to throw a sausage sizzle…

    • +1

It'll be a saucy sausage sizzle so maybe they'll get hot chicks to cook rather than the guys behind the counter !?

    • +57

Everyone turns up for food and the guy says: "Just going to check stock…"

Comes back 15 mins and says, sorry we ran out.

      • +34

        I've pre-order a sausage. Waiting for confirmation email…

      • -5

i need to ask them advice about my sausage, is it compatible with win8.1 or better stick with win7? what about the linux version, has sauce support here https://saucelabs.com/php/se2/3

  • +2
  • +19

This is MSY though, you will get there and the sausages will either be out of stock or a sign will be put up saying free sausages can be redeemed upon purchase of graphics card $700 and above

    • no stock yes, but the other thing sounds more like a cpl/centrecom ploy

  • +2

But seriously, if it were 30% off I'd be down there with bells on. 10% really isn't that big of a deal.
Perhaps just on the bigger ticket items as the OP has pointed out.

    • +5

Be realistic… you think PC parts are earning 30%+ markup storewide?? Esp MSY who cut almost every other retailer out there and you want 30% off on top???

      • +6

"you think PC parts are earning 30%+ markup storewide"

        Not at all.
This is promotional stock for one brand, which they no doubt bought at good margin… because it's promotional stock.

Australia already has crazy mark up on PC components compared to the US/Canada (sometimes double). 30-40% discounts on sale items are common for retailers like Newegg, NCIX, MicroCenter and SuperBiiz.

So either AU retailers are paying too much or we are.

        • +8

Errrm maybe a fews years ago.
But from what I can remember, this year many graphics cards and hard drives were as cheap or even cheaper in Aus. Ofcourse american IT retailers like newegg and tigerdirect will from time to time do really good deals on items, and combining those with coupons and rebates can make it legendary, but they aren't everyday prices, they're loss leaders, and there's often a very limited supply given the population.

Throw in sales tax and lower than parity dollar and I'd say we get a pretty good prices most of the time.

10% off is good, provided they haven't raised the prices beforehand.

        • +1

Completely agree. Few years back there was massive differences between Australia and the US, but now we're mostly on par overall I find. You'll always find sme awesome bargains from some US sites, but the same can be said for some AU sites as well.

        • +1

Agreed, the prices for their video cards are already cheaper than some US states (remember, most US prices are quoted without the applicable taxes).

at 10% off, anything you buy is an awesome bargain. So tempted to pull the trigger on a 280x but I have to hold out for

          Mantle API results
          Gigabyte Windforce 290 results
Game bundles for the R9 series (although BF4 was just announced for the 280x, the ones on shelves now won't have the game).

        • -1

Perhaps Aussie retailers have more margin to play with on larger ticket items such as high end gpu's to the point they can match US prices.

But having just been through an extensive research process putting together a new system this certainly does not seem true for lower priced components such as cases, mobos, psu's and memory. I'm seeing a min 50% mark up in general over US prices.

Having said that, I agree that MSY is very competitive locally, so any discount on their stock will be decent buying. It just seemed funny to make such a big song and dance over 10% that's all.

  • +9

Better check the sausage stock online before I come… oh wait,… the online stock is not reliable too…

    • +4

And don't bother calling, they only answer the phone on the 32nd of each month.

  • +8

2% surcharge on all sausages sold. Make an order on their website for sausages and they'll email you when it's ready.

  • Good price on graphics cards butMsy never have stock when they do special deals anyway.

    • They do when something is on clearance.

  • Gigabyte also sells at MSY:

    • Video Cards
    • Keyboards (Mechanical)
    • Mice
    • Motherboards
    • Laptops
  • +1

10% isn't much of a deal since most likely there are other brands of the same card than cost cheaper. Like i got a msi customizable dual fan and OC version radeon 7770 for $70 when it was on clearance (still available), and the gigabyte single fan non-OC standard version of the radeon 7770 was $79 on clearance. So make sure you're still getting the better deal.

    • The cards do have actual performance differences. It isn't just a different fan and cover.

      • I've benchmarked the msi card (never manually oc'd) and it performs much better than the average radeon 7770. The card is also supposed to have extra fancy overclocking features like overvoltage.

Regardless, the more expensive Gigabyte version isn't factory overclocked out of the box, unlike the msi power edition one.

Free delivery with the sausage? If so I'll be checking the mail excitedly…

Headlines to include "ACCC to open 'SausageGate' Investigation into Misleading Free Beef Bonus" and "MSY receives Hefty Fines For Unsupported Sausage Warranty of Fitness Claims"!

I'm definitely be doing my own GigaBITING on the day, possibly go TERA!

    • +1

      Dad's on the computer again!

    • -1

Wow i was going to neg this when it didnt have votes because its such a bad joke but i didnt need to since other people did it for me

  • +2

Me: May I order a sausage?

    MSY: Sorry OUT OF STOCK

    • +4

A friend had an argument with MSY ages ago after they sold the last of an item, that he had reserved over the phone.

At the end of his rant, they offered (facetiously) to sell him a stapler.

Since then our MSY joke has been "you want stapler?"

    • he's not the soup nazi, but his long lost cousin, SAUSAGE NAZI!

    meow meow

  • I've always wondered why MSY don't update their website to something a little more modern.

    • +1

Does the job. They really could reformat the price list though.. even to something like PCDIY. Times New Roman in red and black is a nightmare..

  • +1

Im surprised the christmas pdf banner is nicer than the website's design lol

  • Most likely picking up a GPU tomorrow for my new rig…

    GTX 780 or R9 290x?

  • Ha! Got my order number for a Gigabyte GTX780 Ti. Picking up this bad boy Tomorrow!!

    • awesome. That'll let you use AA on ultra settings in BF4/COD Ghosts compared to a 660 (AA kills it).

      • Picked up my card. No1 in line we also grabbed a few sausages n drinks!

BTW The GTX780 Ti is a fucking beast!!

  • +1

They will run out of sausages and offer a similar item instead.

  • +2

Hmmm I wounder what the line will be like tomorrow. Normally I have to wait 40 minutes for the 2 people complaining in front of me about warranty etc. The one I visit only has a counter that allows 2 staff to serve at one time…

    • Exactly what I was thinking, the wait is long enough without a promotion.

  • Why are you ppl making fun of MSY ? For once they are doing something right, giving away sausages and drinks!

    • because of all the bad experiences they had in the past

  • GTX660 for closly 200$ with 10% . it's worth to buy ?

    • I think its a good buy. I'm looking at a similar performance wise card, the R9-270X. I have been watching the 2nd hand market for a while but people want and pay stupid prices. Usually only save maybe $20 by going second hand and many instances seen cards sell more than they are brand new. Eg. 6970 are still usually selling around the $200 mark. Performance wise its pretty similar but its 2-3 year old second hand old card.

I don't know why the 2nd hand market is priced so high. Maybe bitcoin mining is driving the prices up on these

  • Has anyone been to any of the stores yet? What are queues like?

  • Cheers OP. Got a GTX780 for $548.10 at Clayton VIC at around midday. Lines were surprisingly good (less than 5 people in line), and there was plenty of staff.

    • +2

But did you get a sausage or was it out of stock :)?

    • Did you get the nvidia holiday game bundle?

      I didn't. :(

      • They will only give if you ask them specificly.

        • Incorrect, current Nvidia vouchers are packaged inside the box. You most likely got a card shipped before the promotion started in Australia (Nov 28th).

It's not like the Never Settle AMD bundles which have separate vouchers given to the retailers.

        • At least they gave me a Splinter Cell code.

  • would be nice if it included laptops as well.
