Sony Australia 12 Months Manufacturers Warranty

The product page mentions "manufacturer warranty" but the warranty page doesn't doesn't have more than a generic message. On the basis that even chocolates sold on CotD are grey imports, I strongly doubt that this is Australian stock.

    • Good observation. I'm with Tycn in thinking that these are indeed grey imports. There's not mention of AU warranty on the page, only manufacturer's warranty.

      • Dont think that the NEX-3N is grey import as COTD invoice says GST added. Also for all imported items they usually write that it is grey/parallel import.

        • Perhaps, but there are grey sellers that pay GST (e.g. DDP) since their products are sold and shipped within Australia.

It's probably less important for them to disclose grey compared to confectionery since it's an identical camera rather than a slightly different formulation, etc.

Still a good deal, moreso if it's Australian stock so you don't have to go through CotD in case of issues (shudder).

        • Well if its COTD warranty its usually specified as in the Panasonic listing :

Protected by our 12 MONTH WARRANTY - see 'Warranty' tab with 12 Month Warranty Terms & Conditions for more info.

          http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/warranty

Otherwise usually Manufacturer warranty on COTD means its Australian Stock.

          http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/event/33073/product/panasoni…

For Grey, its usually like this :

          http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/event/33153/product/samsung-…

12 Month Supplier Warranty - Refer to 'Warranty Specs' tab for details.

        • For Grey, its usually like this :

          http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/event/33153/product/samsung-…

12 Month Supplier Warranty - Refer to 'Warranty Specs' tab for details.

That seems to be Australian stock, actually; it's mentioned after the specs.

Perhaps everything that isn't explicitly described as Australian stock is grey, or maybe they're just inconsistent.

  • Just looking at the page now, where does it mention about the $10 bonus?

    • Look at COTD Index Page.

  • I am leaving on the 17th Dec overseas, Do you think they can deliver it before that if I choose the free shipping option ? or should I spent 18.5$ just to be sure.

    • I would spend the extra to be sure, no point ordering the camera and not having it arrive in time. COTD can drag their feet with deliveries at times

    • I'm leaving on the 15th but have had a few bad experiences with COTD shipping so not going to take the risk.

  • How does this compare with Sony NEX-F3KB? Hardly Normal selling at $380, with AMEX rebate get it down to $350. Please advise, thanks.

    • thats like 2 years old model, this is sony's current gen model but same category (budget ILC camera)

      • which is newer?

        • Nex-3N is the latest one, released mid this year, far better model than the previous gen like F3 or C3.

        • Go for the F3, check for the specs you'll see what I mean, but 16-50mm E-mount lens from this 3N deal has great performance (in which F3 kit doesn't have this lens).

        • Your comment is meaningless, F3 is obsolete model which 3N is replacing. 3N has better design if you can read the spec.

        • Newer won't be always better. 3N has better design? LMAO. You should read the specs and check more reviews.

        • Links to justify your comments that F3 better than 3N?

3N has zoom level which is handy for power zoom lens.

3N also lighter and more compact than F3.

        • Checking more comparison reviews is all what you need to do.

        • Yep, your comment may be meaningless to some JVA, but some respected reviewers agree with you. I'm tossing up between the two and have done a lot of recent reading of reviews of the two. Seems the size of the non-retracting 18-55mm lens is the biggest drawback of the F3 for some, although Jeff Keller on Dpreview mentions consistent underexposure iirc.

          Wirecutter said this:

Perhaps the most frustrating downside of the NEX-3N is the fact that it’s a major step backwards from the older NEX-F3. It’s a better camera than the NEX-3N, but it’s getting increasingly hard to track down for a good price, so it can’t be our main pick anymore. It has a better, higher resolution screen, that can tilt in more angles. It has a more powerful built-in flash that you can adjust to different angles for indirect illumination. It has a faster burst rate. It has an accessory port, so that you can add flashes or a viewfinder. So if you see the NEX-F3 kicking around for the same price as the NEX-3N, you should probably grab it. It’s not quite as small, and it doesn’t have the zoom ring. But when it really comes down to it, it has a better feature set and is a better choice.

        • The guy at JB-Hifi used this site for comparing the cameras:

          http://snapsort.com/compare/Sony-Alpha-NEX-3N-vs-Sony-Alpha-…

So he recommended the one with higher score.

          For some repected reviewers, ROFL.

        • Try reading some expert reviews in lieu of offering your strident but obviously ignorant opinion. Your half-baked snapshot "score" which includes such items as "popularity" and gives the F3 0 for image stabilisation (done in lens on the F3) also fails to pick up on the points made by other reviewers - including the Wirecutter comments I posted above. Simplistic stuff, but whatever floats your boat.

        • Its 'Snapsort' not 'Snapshot' and its not my site lol.

You two should really get yourself the F3 camera if you haven't got one already. Btw this post is for the N3 camera, ROFL.

        • Really? Kiddiesnap isn't your website? Who would have thought. Lol, rofl, roflmao…. presumably that adds to the discussion?

      • Yeap, F3 is so so last year x2. Go for 3N.

  • Despite its impressive quality picture and built-in flash and so on, there are few minuses which made me to think twice.

    • 3N body is made of plastic, while 5T and 6 are made of metal, I tried the display model. THe 3N feel a bit flimsy, while 5T and 6 by miles are more stable compare especially with bigger lenses.

    • 3N LCD CAN do selfie, BUT can NOT tilt downward facing, making it useless to use above your head if you want to shoot new year fireworks in the thousand people crowds, unless ur the tallest person in the crowds. 5T and 6 can tilt downward, though 6 can't do selfie.

    • 3N has only 4FPS shooting, while 5T and 6 has 8 and 10 or something like that, its quite slow compare to other mirrorless cam with 10 FPS.

    • 3N doesn't have Hybrid AF like 5T or Nex-6.

    • No Wi-Fi, NO Touchscreen. Buttons are pretty much basic like P&S cam, no dial for mode or control. So if you want to use manual control, a bit fiddly compare to 5t and 6.

    • Made in Thailand, although SOny claims the QC still the same as made in Japan. But my 3 year old P&S Cybershot was made in Japan and still rocks.

    • Your comparison is meaningless, they are products from different price range. (How could you compare NEX 3N& 6????)

      Better compare 3N with F3.

      • Comparing 3N and F3 is meaningless, N3 is to replace F3 as F3 already discontinued.

You should compare against current models, and if you're willing to pay more you get better product.

Not everyone here just want to buy the cheapest model without knowing its quality and what it can do.

        • F3 is discontinued, but there are still stock selling. NEX 3N is newer that's true, but F3 is so much better based on the performance.

This deal is good, only because it has a 16-50 E lens within the kit, otherwise buy 3N 15-50mm instead of F3 15-50 kit at same price? hell no… For people who only have $400 budget, how could you let them go for NEX 5T&6? Is that a joke?

PLEASE CHECK THE PRICES FOR NEX 5T& 6, and then do your comparison. What you are comparing above is like " VW GOLF R& GTI are better than GOLF TSI, so don't buy a TSI"

        • For next 5T you can spend another $200ish extra, and gives you heaps of extra features, most importantly the 10FPS performance compare to 5.5FPS on F3 and 4FPS on 3N.

It all depends on your budget, but you can't assume everyone only has $400 budget.

And like you said 3N has 16-50 lens which I prefer compare to F3 18-55mm.

3N is intended for begginers upgrading from P&S, for DSLR users 5T or 6 is much more suitable, 5T has control mode, which 6 has control & dial mode buttons.
3N has neither and it much more slower in manual mode to adjust ISO, aperture, etc.

        • -1

Been late for my lunch today, no more useless discussion.

        • The Nex 5T is closer to $300 more, which puts it squarely into the lower end of the DSLR price bracket.

        • not $300 more if you use this deal with JB-Hifi
          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/125721

*You need to have multiple amex cards to maximise the $10 cashback as it only gives you $10 credit on 1 card.

        • Grasping at straws.

        • What about the $2.95 processing feel on every card ! So how much the 5T comes to then and with all the hassles !

        • You can purchase a $100 gift card with split payment to 2 Amex cards for $50 and $52.95. That will save you $2.95 for each $100 westfield gift card. Unfortunately they only allow maximum 2 split payments.

If you buy $500 (5 x $100) gift cards, you only need to pay $14.75 processing fee instead of $29.5. But you saved $100 from the statement credit and the net saving would be $85.25 or 17%.

Only bit of extra hassles, as the concierge are pretty quick when processing gift cards.

  • Thanks OP - bought one

  • +1

Great value for money. Purchased one as well if the nex 5 is $350 more (in essence double the price) is it twice as good? For a consumer looking at there first interchangeable lens or a good compact travel companion this is a bargain. I also have a 550d however sometimes its just not practical big bulky and the video quality average. This does both with reasonably good quality, sure it has deficiencies however for the price show me a better alternative.

    • Not necessarily $350 more

      Nex-5TL from JB-Hifi $631.55

      http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/digital-cameras/digital-cs-ca…

TRS saving: $57.41 if you're travelling overseas for holiday

      Amex westfield credit from 6x$100 gc: $120 - $17.7fee = $102.3 net
(see my earlier comment on how to save half the fees)
(in this case you need 12 amex card to maximise the savings, but with all the bank issued amex and supplementary eligible its not an impossible feat)

Or if you buy from harvey norman or david jones you need less amex cards to maximise the statement credit $30 (HN) and $50 (DJ), the key is split payments.

That brings the Nex-5T down to $471.84, which is $121 more than the 3N from catch.

      $121 extra for:
      - metal body,
      - Anti-Dust System: Charge protection coating on optical filter and ultrasonic vibration mechanism
      - hybrid AF,
      - 10FPS,
      - Touch Screen LCD with 2x resolution from 3N,
      - control mode button
      are acceptable for me.

      • nex-3N is TRS eligible as well, please get that into the equation please.

        So NEX-5N: $471 after TRS
        NEX-3N: $317.27 after TRS - $10 COTD Account Credit = $307.27

SO in affect the NEX-5N is still around 53% more expensive.

        • Thanks for that, so its actually around $160 more for nex-5.

        • Don't forget to cash your soft drink bottles in on the way. If you have staff discount, buy a refurbed 5N, sell your frequent flyer points to someone, or buy everything at x7 cents cash at the supermarket for the next 6 months and get the 2c rounding it's even cheaper.

  • You could add the same savings you mentioned TRS overseas travel price match using the gift cards say at JB will be well under $300 depends what you need and the budget I guess, does have the same lens and sensor as the 3N however.

  • After reading some reviews and people who actually owned or used both the N3 and F3.
I would agree with the jva

" Newer won't be always better".

They have changed the design and targeted to different markets…overall the body of F3 and specs are better than N3 in many ways!
But this is a good deal with the 15-50mm lens and possible a very good camera as well for its price. (as it unfortunately has replaced the F3, which I own one and like it very much , but not an upgrade for me, except I want the new lens!)
