Soniq E40W13A 40-Inch FHD - $349 ($315 after in-Store Discount) @ JB Hi-Fi

110

Not a bad price for a 40inch Full HD. The guy in store gave it to me for $315. I decided to go for the additional warranty, so $374.40 for the TV with 3 years (yes yes I'm not a true Ozbargainer bla bla bla… lol the additional warranty has saved me enough times to warrant purchasing it.:P)

As per the website:

  • 101cm / 40 Inch LED LCD Screen
  • 1920 x 1080 Resolution
  • USB Recording
  • USB Movie Playback
  • USB Picture View
  • USB Music Playback
  • Built in HD Tuner
  • 50Hz Screen Refresh Rate
  • 7 Day EPG (Electronic Program guide)
  • 3000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio
  • 3 Star Energy Rating

Deal was on before - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/112109. I know it's not like Officeworks AKAI 40inch cheap but it's still a pretty good deal compared to everything else out there (Dick Smith has a couple of 40inch TVs for $398; one's a DS brand, the other is Hitachi).

  • $315 for an acceptable living room TV or awesome 2nd room TV is a good deal in my books.

PS - I buy additional warranties on things like TVs too O.P. but I thought JBs additional warranty was 5 years on TVs?

    • hrmm I believe they have a 3 year as well as a 5 year option… it's 2 or 4 extra years on top of the original 1 year warranty. I'll probably end up using this as a monitor lol… well we'll see if that's actually do-able.

  • You got the deal BECAUSE you bought the extended warranty.

Actually no I didn't… he gave it to me BEFORE I wanted to go for the warranty. The JB Hi-Fi at Robina is good like that, but I know not all JBs do that. There's one much nearer to me in Tweed City, and they give me next to nothing so I always take that extra 20 min drive up.

      Anyway that's why I posted $349 and only $315 after in-store discount.

  • I got the C version for $339 and love it
    Can't believe it for the price to be honest;

Yeah, it's not the same quality as a brand name TV worth $1000+; but it's not far off for the price

No screen lag/input delay at all for gaming; colours are great and the overall quality is pretty remarkable. My only negatives would be the optical out (being that it's -only- optical out), and the VESA mounting.
If you're planning to mount this to your wall/some sort of VESA stand, you'll have to get 12mm-16mm M5 bolts (I got 15mm ones from Bunnings). These M5 bolts aren't a 'standard' size for VESA mounting (apparently).

    Credit where it's due,
'Floyds' review mentioned the bolts here:

Also the screen is 60hz - the JB website has listed the specs incorrectly, the actual specs are here:
    ftp://ftp.quatius.com.au/Manuals/E40W13C.pdf

(C has 60hz refresh rate, 10 bit colour depth, 7/8Mhz channel bandwith, and uses slightly less power than the A. It also has a (faux?) metal finish and glass base; vs. the A's plastic surround and base)

"No screen lag/input delay at all for gaming"

Really? All credibility is lost right there.

I have an HDMI matrix switcher connected to a Dell U2312HM and this Soniq TV. Displaying a parallel image between the two from either Xbox (Halo) or my PC (Battlefield) there is no discernible lag or delay on either screen.

I also wasn't aware I claimed to have any credibility, other than owning the TV, but thanks for letting me know I've lost it? I was simply trying to help people who may be interested in this TV make a more informed decision with my comments on it.

Also, those that commented re' the lag/delay on Whirlpool share the same opinion:

I bought the A version pretty much on the day they were first put on display. Great little TV! PS3/PS4 looks great on it and I only use headphones so no problem about the tinny speakers.

    • My only negatives would be the optical out (being that it's -only- optical out),

Whats wrong with that? Its just for DVB TV isn't it? mostly stereo, with the occasional DD/ac3?
You want hdmi out, or RCA stereo?

      • RCA or even a headphone out would be handy - just tricky finding a cheap soundbar/speaker set up with an optical in (I'm talking sub-$100).
The speakers aren't great on the TV (not to say they're unbearable)
But most people will probably want to upgrade them
