They told me (via chat) yesterday that they couldn't do 25% and free ship to Aus. Went ahead and ordered a $270 item. Surprise surprise todays promo is exactly what I was refused. Submitted new order for the same item at $202…except they now refuse to cancel my original order (12 hours earlier) or refund the discount. Very unimpressed with these cowboys versus Amazon etc.

    • +1

To be fair, they've always said that discount codes don't stack. I've always found their customer service to be pretty good, but of course it all depends on the person. Certainly wouldn't call them cowboys though.

Yesterday I asked specifically for the exact promo terms they are now offering and was told it can't be done. Proceeded on that advice from their rep. My order is only 12 hours old and told it can't be cancelled even by a supervisor? I do a lot of online purchasing from overseas and have had occasion to alter/cancel orders or price match post-order. This is the worst US online customer service I have experienced thus far. I've emailed them…I'll update if they provide a more sensible response than "we can't do that".

        • Seems that they did this in response to your enquiry.
Maybe original order had already been shipped. If ups is 4 day delivery they may ship immediately.

        • +3

I too have had an issue with an international retailer refusing to cancel an order just hours after placing it. Needless to say I definitely won't be doing business with them ever again (I raised a PayPal dispute with them after arguing with their CSR…I was finally given a refund)

        • The original order is still showing as "processing". The more recent order for the same item (with the discount) has switched from "new" to "processing" also so presumably that can't be cancelled now either :-/

        • Instead of making a second order, you probably should have just contacted them and explained what happened, and asked if today they could give the discount/refund the difference on your original order.

but does seem a unfriendly to not allow cancelling the first order. I'd keep escalating it.

        • Start a paypal dispute.

Did you use 28 degrees card? you should have and then you can use your buyer protection to have the difference refunded.

        • 28 Degrees buyer protection is only for Australian purchases (i.e. from businesses with an ABN)

        • I use my CBA Platinum AMEX via Paypal as I find the reward points useful. Still no reply to my email. I will certainly be disputing through Paypal once it will let me…it's still a pending transaction so can't action it yet.

        • Interesting. Never knew that.

Internet orders are OK, but item must be from store of the same name in AU.

        • Curious to know how this turned out, any updates?

        • Sorry just saw your request for updates. They told me (via email and also facebook PM) to refuse the delivery and I would receive a full refund. I asked if I would have to pay return shipping and they said no. When they received it back they withheld USD $40 for return shipping and "customs" fees (nonsense). Several emails back and forth but they are refusing to budge. Been a bit busy but next step is to follow up with Paypal for the remainder of the full refund as promised.

Really unimpressed that they would go against their word and then invest so much time in arguing for the sake of $40.

    Just ordered myself.
Thought it might be worth mentioning that:
-The 25% seems to come off after you qualify for shipping, so final prices of $150+ USD get it.
-The shipping claims to be 3-5 business days, plus 1-2 for processing so should be okay for Christmas as far as I can tell.

    • +3

From my experience using the standard delivery method I have never had an order from them arrive sooner than 5 weeks after ordering.

Customer service is excellent but shipping is painfully slow to Australia.

      • +1

Fair point, however I think any international orders over $100 have to use DHL Express Int or UPS Express at thinkgeek.

So hopefully that means if your order qualifies for the free shipping, it'll be the quick kind.

        • My advice do not use DHL. These clowns sent me a bill after customs opened one of my packages.
          UPS the way to go.

        • +1

That it is a well known scam. Search whirlpool for "dhl scam". Also call up DHL and ask for the customs inspection number. They'll mysteriously be unable to find it and offer to kindly waive the fee just this one time.

        • My dad had that pulled on him once, he went off his nut at them and they kindly waived the fee…

In regards to shipping insertpause is right in that shipping can take a while with their regular option, luckily this promotion gives DHL or UPS. Strangely though with my order if I selected UPS all discounts would disappear…

        • +1

Yeah I don't think the discount works when you select UPS as your courier.

        • +1

Which is odd because the T&C's state:
"25% off and Free International Express Shipping (via DHL or UPS) with any qualifying merchandise purchase of $200 or more. Offer valid from December 13, 2013, 12:01am through December 16, 2013, 11:59pm PT. This offer is only valid to international destinations where DHL and/or UPS Express Shipping is available."

        • Okay so it SHOULD be UPS but for some reason the system isn't recognising that, I think they're fixing it, the ThinkGeek rep apologised for it.

        • Was told the same thing. Was told to cancel my order use the ups and they would give me a gift certificate for the difference. No thanks since I was saving $210

        • See my order is well past the cancellation stage, but they did give me a $20 gift certificate as a 'sorry'. :)

        • That is pretty good of them. I am just worried about them trying to charge this inspection fee. Was very happy with my purchase before that. Have had orders from ups from amazon and never had this issue

  • Bag of holding…already on sale. Nice

    Melting clock
    Game of thronescards.
Pity all lego r out of stock.

    • Awesome bag too, I grabbed one a little while back. It's literally big enough to hold another satchel bag in it which I found rather amusing.

  • Super deal

Bought the niece and nephew 2 x Star Wars Tuantuan sleeping bags

damn they dont ship this outside of US :(

    • Just ordered the Half Life Zombie statue, and L4D2 Tank statue.

They're a steal at $75 each, considering they rrp at 300 before shipping.

      • Haha I ordered the same thing. Crazy price. Was going to get the tank a week ago cause $150 was good price with free shipping. If you want to get them from gamingheads.com it is close to $800 delivered. $150 is amazing price. Only 300 of each made

    • I saw this for sale at Gametraders in Westfield Parramatta (NSW) not long ago. Don't know how much more than this they're charging, though.

  • Any reps on thinkgeek going to post here would be helpfull for those with order issues

    • +4

What makes you think they're even aware of OzBargain's existence?

  • -7

I must have outgrown my geek …

All I see is hideously expensive merchandise.

Maybe Ozbargain needs a socioeconomic filter ?

    • +3

you were never a geek to begin with that's what it is.

    • -1

Yes lets bring in a socioeconomic filter to keep out poor people like you who can't afford our expensive geek gear.

      • +2

"Hey everyone, this store discriminates against poor people!" - best renegade option in the whole series.

  • why cant i select economy shipping?

    • if your order is above a certain value or weight, you must go UPS or DHL.

  • Thanks OP for the heads up on this deal :)

  • +1

Finished my collection of fx lightsabres :)
And got my double ended one too

  • The no-discount-with-UPS problem is still going on.. They offered me (via live chat) to phone them to put the order in instead, or they could give me a gift certificate to the value of discount + UPS shipping, or I could use DHL.

I politely advised they should update the terms of their promotion and that I would begrudgingly use DHL.

    • +1

I got free UPS shipping this afternoon :)

  • +1

Looks like it has been extended

ENDS: WEDNESDAY, DEC 18TH 11:59PM PST

    • I saw that too but was out and unable to ammend the OP, thanks. :)

  • +1

Oh man - what an excellently suggestive product photo: http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/eea5/?srp=6

  • If anyone sees this, have your orders moved pass the processing stage yet? Ordered monday and still not shipped.

    • Nope. I've spoken to three customer service people, two of whom have said it would ship the next day which hasn't happened. Very strange to have this sort of delay, normally they're very quick.

EDIT: I ordered on friday, so…yeah.

      • aaaaaand same reply again. Let's see if the bloody thing has shipped when I wake up…

    • That does seem a bit slow.
I ordered early Saturday morning and it shipped late Sunday night.

    • I ordered Sunday night and it just shipped this arvo. Apparently due for delivery in rural Qld on 24/12, so hopefully they are on time…

    • I ordered on Tuesday arvo and UPS tracking has it due for delivery today (Friday). Not bad!

  • NERD RAGE!!! One of their customer service people finally came clean with me after my order had been 'processing' for a week. After numerous assurances it would be shipped the next day I finally found out that it was delayed due to a product being out of stock, but they never bothered telling me. Not. Happy. On the plus side the order has been ammended and is now being shipped UPS, nonetheless already emailed their complaints department.

    • +1

Okay apparently it did ship but they didn't know it… Except that my order was split in two - one part will arrive, the other part has apparently been lost in transit so they're sending out a replacement. Much better. :)

      • You might get lucky and the 'lost in transit' one might show up at yours as well!

        • Yeah you never know! I'm unfortunately honest though so if it does turn up I'll let ThinkGeek know and ask them what they want me to do with it. :)

They did apologise for the big mix up as well and refunded the out of stock item as well as giving me another gift voucher.

  • +1

most of my stuff arrived today the last part of my order was shipped yesterday :D

    • +1

One part of my order arrived on Friday, the other part today. Pretty happy with a one week turnaround!
