      • Thanks :) That's what I thought! I appreciate knowing where not to try/bother.

  • Springvale store on patterson/springvale rd does it, but you have to print out the voucher. Manager said all the stores haven't been told about this voucher so they don't have a button on their screen to make the items free.

  • +2

Brisbane CBD Myer Centre store refused stating they needed a printout (presented on phone)

    • I tried last night at the BNE Myer Centre with my phone and they reluctantly accepted after the cashier had a long conversation with the manager. My girlfriend tried 2 mins later with her phone but was rejected and told that she needed a print-out, my romantic dinner was shot down.

I also used it for lunch today at Queen's Plaza in Brisbane and it worked :)

  • Print out working fine at my local store and I want to keep it that way :-) Lets just say its somewhere in Queensland.

Walked from docklands, successfully hit both red roosters at southern cross station melbourne and walked back. Sorted.

I can see them killing this really quickly

  • I still haven't received my email. Wat the hell?

  • +1

Worked at Woodvale, W.A. with mobile phone. She had a good read of the fineprint though.

    • +1

Accepted at Kingsway and Warwick too

  • Worked for me just showing on my phone at Sydney Airport Domestic.

  • +1

The manager at the store I went to tried to tell me I had to order something else at the same time. I didn't bother arguing.

  • no problems today. had another two serves :).

  • Brisbane airport downstairs store bloody accept the vouchers….. Dodgy! Tried to twist their arm, wasn't successful :(

    • +1

I wouldn't have expected it to work at any airport location, even if it was a deal you had to pay for. It says participating stores, and I generally find that airport stores aren't participating. That being said, another commenter said it worked at Sydney Airport.

    • Tried to twist their wing ;-)

  • Southern Cross said a printed voucher was necessary

  • I used it at Westfield North Lakes RR yesterday without any problems. I just showed the picture on my phone.

  • Does any store in Brisbane accept this voucher?

  • Used voucher today. Chips were way too salty but the chicken strip was decent :)

    • +3

Was the chicken hot…and did it dance good while it stripped?

  • +1

Balcatta WA said I had to purchase something as well. I said, if that were the case, it would be stated in the fine print. I win :)

    • Good on ya for pointing it out. Haven't had any issues so far. Even got offered tomato sauce :)

      • i'm lucky i had it printed out in colour laser as well, otherwise they'd come back to me and say "it's a photocopy" </eyeroll>

        • +1

not the "its a photocopy" excuse again.

subway did that with their free subs. some KFC franchisees did the same with their free stuff. seems like a lot of tightarses owning fast food.

        • +1

ozbargain drinking game…5 chugs for every photocopy accusation

        • Good game. A lot of ozbargain'ers going to be off their faces at the end of the game.

        • +1

among them, myself…in the first round lol

        • wierd i havent had any issues claiming free crispy strips and chips. go up, drive thru, walk around, go thru the front door for seconds.

decided to save some money on lunch, so went for another three serves. no fight put up by anyone. :)

  • Not accepted Thursday in Dubbo NSW, manager said they knew nothing about it.

  • +1

    Works at Bunbury store,cheers OP.

  • some of these stores see me so much that i get a knowing smile lol

    • +2

how many times have you visited the stores?

went to balcatta just then and no one asked me any questions. just handed over the free food no questions asked.

      • 3 times max but i always seem to get the same drive-thu op :D

        • in the same day? or over the course of a week?

  • Still works at Bourke/Elizabeth St Melb, I thought it had gone because it's not on the store locator, even Google says it isn't there any more but I stumbled on it today and it's still there.. Weird.

  • do u need to buy something with it? my store told me i had too so i got a $2 burger

    • +3

ask them to point out to you where it says that on the voucher. they are just trying to recoup some money on the free strip/chips they are handing out to you by feeding you some b$

    • what t25 said.
says nowhere on the voucher that you have to purchase something. wouldn't be "free" otherwise.

they're just hoping people are gullible enough to cough up money for a freebie

  • +1

Springvale (Vic) Red Rooster refused to honour the printed voucher without a purchase.

    • +9

Order the items through the drive in function. Then present voucher. Turn off engine and engage in a Mexican standoff until someone folds. Usually the franchise will fold before you will.

      • -1

If I was the guy working there just following instructions, this would be the point I call the police on you. Surely there's more important things to concern yourself with?

        • +1

following instructions you say? not according to the T&Cs printed on the voucher.

        • Surely there's more important things to concern yourself with?

i have a feeling the police have more important things to concern themselves with than a trivial disagreement if there's no verbal/physical abuse..

        • could they not issue you with a move on notice if they were lets say, in the drive thru whilst on duty

  • +2

At Perth airport and initially refused as told not participating restaurant got them to see mananger

The franchisee operator (as he claimed to be when he refused to give me his name) at SMITHFIELD NSW wasn't happy when he saw me today, the last time he saw me was last Friday. Only two times, and he's already thrown in the towel? I've bought a $2 cheeseburger every time as well, and he couldn't care less.
    He said the following:
    - this is the last time he'll honour the voucher for me
    - that I cannot simply print off the voucher and redeem it "everyday" or "several times a day"
    - that he will lodge a complaint to head office about the voucher and will no longer honour them
    - that the voucher could only be redeemed once? to that I asked, during the 6 weeks? he replied yes, to that I asked, even though the voucher states "per transaction"? to that he replied "r u deaf, dumb and destitute" just kidding :)
    - that it is up to him to refuse the voucher because it states "only at participating stores", to that I replied, you are participating as you have honoured the voucher last week
    - that he doesn't care if I go on ozbargain and have a hissy fit, so here I am

Two other red roosters I went to were nice and honoured them straight away, even without an additional purchase, which I did out of my own respect for their "free" offer, and he treated me like I was a thief. What a tight arse franchisee. I've only just discovered their mayo cheeseburgers, which is nicer than macca's mayo chicken cheeseburger IMO, and was planning on buying that in the future after the voucher has lapsed, but not now, at least not at Smithfield red rooters.

    • +2
      • that he will lodge a complaint to head office about the voucher and will no longer honour them

lol good luck to him. i'd be inclined to lodge a complaint about him to head office..

      • +1

        done, thanks.

    • do these franchise operators not know the power of marketing?

how much is a strip and chips realistically? $2 after expenses? to upset both themselves and a potential customer over $2 doesnt seem like good business practise.

      • I'd say it's more like 20 cents total cost for the tiny strip and small chips, and with the added bonus of selling a $2 cheeseburger, their total loss would probably be close to 60 cents, so when I handed over $2, they actually made a profit, but this (small minded) franchise operator was blinded by anger and frustration, so blinded he didn't give me credit for the fact that I bought something else as well, maybe he expected to me to buy a family feast and treat the free strip and chips as a side?

I would have thought this promotion was paid for the franchisor and not the franchisee? Don't they have a "free" button on their POS register? therefore the franchisor would reimburse them? 5-6 weeks of freebies has gotta hurt and someone has to foot the bill.

On a brighter note, their chips are nice!. See…their promotion has worked, they gave me a taste to come back.

    • Please post this on their Facebook page and email office.

      • just had a look at some of the posts on their facebook, so many negative comments.

    • -1

You do realise that some franchisees are not compensated by head office for running these promotions. Even if you go by gross margin, businesses have overheads. I agree marketing is important but wouldn't buy one get one free campaigns be more effective as they attract customers who actually are interested in the products. I don't agree with these 'freebie' promotions because you just get freeloaders who have no intentions to ever return to the store.

      • nice first comment :)

it is an issue for the franchisees to take up with head office. i'm not aware of what's going on in other states, but in WA at least, all RR stores are taking part, franchisees or not. see: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/127167?page=1#comment-1792…

Club Red have actually run quite a few BOGOF campaigns in the past, so the two freebies they've run in the past 2 years aren't exactly killing them

  • Karrinyup food court store not accepting it but they said that the larger store outside was.

    • +2

they're bullshitting you. there's no "larger store outside" the shopping centre. closest one would be innaloo on the corner of scarb. beach road and ellen stirling.

i've redeemed it twice there before. no problems after the cashier asked the duty manager how to input it

      • +2

Can't believe karrinyup would still try that on their customers. They gave me a hard time redeeming mine too today.

As usual I have sent a nicely worded email to RR and hope head office actually acts on this.

I've lost count as to how many I've redeemed to date. Average 3 packs/day maybe 3-4 times a week. Since the start of promo. This is not including what my staff have printed and claimed themselves.

        • I don't know if RR head office is closed for the holidays, but I haven't receive any reply whatsoever from them.

      • Good to know! I'm rarely in that area but had a Westfield voucher to use :) The cashier seemed so confident, I didn't query it. I haven't had any success in redeeming the voucher and I've tried 5 stores/outlets now :(

        • +1

i've pretty much memorised all the fine-print on that voucher :p

in my experience with claiming freebies, you have to appear confident as well. after all, we're claiming a legit freebie here, not asking for anything other than what the voucher states.

        • Also not trying to bend the rules. I had one colleague who tried to be a funny fella by claiming two. Got rejected straight off the bat

  • Claimed, just showed my phone. Vic

  • Anyone tried Gosford store as they refuse to allow son to use student edge card there definately not the most friendly store

  • +2

Ellenbrook WA denied the freebie. claimed they weren't a participating store. told them the list i got from red rooster shows they were. they even had the button on their POS system that showed up on the screen as $0 strip and chips total $4.00 but the manager(?) pretended not to know how to zero the transaction and told me to call head office. i could see her giving me a dirty look from behind the counter before she came out and knew she would make things hard.

had no problems redeeming at Beechboro WA. i asked the cashier there how she managed to put through the transaction. she said she went through the discounts section.

head office is closed until the 6th so i'm going to call them first thing ;)

    • claimed they weren't a participating store. told them the list i got from red rooster shows they were

This mythical list exists? Where can I find it?

      • +1

short: i don't have the list. i know they're a participating store. redeemed the regular chips there with no problems from their last freebie.

but since she was going to blatantly lie to me, i thought nothing of lying back to her. it's clearly in their system and i don't believe for a second that a manager didn't know how to process the freebie. other managers at other stores have done it.

in my experience, pretty much all the stores in perth metro area participate in club red offers/freebies except the bull creek store. haven't been to rottnest or either airport

    • +1

wow. just wow. please do forward your experiences to RR. im sure they would like to hear that there are franchises out there who will tarnish their promotions that they have spent money on.

      • +1

you bet! i don't need to go to that store again but someone else might. and if they want to pull this sort of unnecessary stunt, game on.

  • +2

tried to claim in cottesloe, and was told it was expired LOL. i told the lady nicely that the date was 31st January 2014 not December.

she quickly apologised and handed over my strip and chips.

some of the stores have been hit quite often to the point where they know immediately that strip and chips = freebie.

good on you ozbargainer's for making this a success

    • +1

lol i was there last week. the manager's super nice

      • how many stores have you claimed this from?

seems like you have travelled most of the metro areas.

        • +3

i've done about 23 stores so far, both north and south

  • Indian guy at Indooroopilly refused to honour, said I needed to buy something. So I walked out and went to maccas instead.

  • +2

following up on the Ellenbrook store refusing to honour the vouchers: called head office and they confirmed that ALL STORES IN WA are participating in this promotion.

if you get denied, give head office a call (tell the receptionist that you're calling about a Red Rooster promo) and report that store.

  • Got accused of photocopying the voucher today. Was told to bring original on my next visit

    • +2

ozbargain freebie drinking game commence! -_-

      which store was it?
i knew it would happen eventually…did you ask them how you were going to bring the "original" when it was emailed to you?

      • cottesloe :)

the guy was cool about it, just told me to bring my original next time.

  • +2

always getting denied on a friday it seems. this time at Midland Gate food court. manager said the store was a franchise and therefore not participating blah blah blah.

so i called head office on the spot and waited there while they sent the area manager. 20 minutes later, he confirmed that the store was participating and i received my food ^_^

    • You waited 20+ minutes for free small chips and a lonely crispy strip? lol that's dedication.

Have you got their head office on speed dial now? :P

      • i've only called them twice so far lol

didn't feel like 20 odd minutes though… i went to the nearby dick smith and just generally enjoyed the air conditioning while waiting :)

    • the area manager actually came down? thats pretty fast action on RR behalf.

i wonder if they have a screenshot of the faces that have claimed the deal, along with the serial claimers of this deal :p

ive been identified at my local RR, to the point where they just put my order thru without me even saying anything :D

      • at first they were going to get him to call me but seeing as i was still there…

        good stuff from RR

    • Wouldn't be surprised if they spat on your chips. Enjoy!

      • not with the area manager still around lol

        • +1

What a true bargain hunter, laughs in the face of danger ;)

  • Anyone notice that the chips arent being filled to the top? Went to three stores today, and all had their "lids" closed with room to shake up the chips.

    • +3

      Ask for your money back.

    • i've experienced that a few times but not at the same store. have even received regular chips 2 or 3 times.

now if i were paying for it, it'd bother me.

      • Lucky you. I've only ever had regular chips once.

  • Garden City wanted a print out and would not accept it on my phone, even with the original email.

  • +1

Red Rooster at Maroubra Junction, NSW wouldn't accept the voucher insisting that I have to buy something. Argued with him that it was not on the fine print and he won't budge.

  • Printout worked fine in WA today.. Now to print another one
