What did you bag at the sales?

The sales today were crazy with a capital C. Not for the bargains on offer, but the crowds and chaos. So many people crammed into one space, reduced to a shuffling pace. Car park hell. Food courts packed. Thoroughfares blocked. So was it worth it? I only got some Christmas decorations, cards and paper, a couple of Blu Rays and a nice shirt. What did you all bag today? Anyone score anything amazing?

  • Not much. Pretty disappointed. Was hoping for some cheap xbox one games. Ended up getting forza for $61.

The sales on Boxing Day are, nowadays, just to clear out all the dregs that wouldn't sell before xmas..

    • +5

      What were they previously?

    • A line that doesn't sell during the Christmas chaos is unlikely to sell during the off-season so businesses discount them right after Christmas (which happens to be Boxing Day) and it's called a sale. It's the consumers that have made it out to be more than it is and retailers are happy to run with it. Boxing Day sales are clearance sales glorified by the buyers themselves. I can't imagine many business actually buy stock especially for it, just for the sake of marking it down drastically.

  • Six $10 telstra sim at HN and two shirts for $20 at FCUK. Lame.

Leggings… with an RRP of $960.
      You bought them for… $307.20.

Over $300 for leggings… what are you doing on this website?

      • -4

They are 100% lambs leather. $307.20 is insanely cheap.
The average price for leather leggings is around 700-1200.
        Anything less is cheap.

I'm sorry, but anyone who considers <$700 for pants made out of baby sheep to be a bargain is a flipping fruit loop.

No need to make judgements on what people like to spend their money on.
This is a bargain website and those were a bargain.
There are lots of posts I think are totally ridiculous and a waste of money but I'm not going to call people names for wanting to spend their money like that.

I wrote in my initial post that I was really happy. Why do you have to try and put me down for it? Your post is just mean.

        • +1

Ignore the haters you do not have to justify your purchase.

        • @prettyinpink

Fair enough. Sorry to have a go at you like that. You're absolutely right, you have every right to spend your money on whatever you'd like. I just personally struggle to find value in extraordinarily expensive clothing and can't quite understand how one could justify such a purchase. I could understand an expensive leather bag that you'd use every day for years, but I don't get clothes. You can't wear them every day, you can't wear them everywhere and they'll go out of fashion pretty quickly (especially these currently trendy leather leggings).

          Happy Holidays :)

        • Thank you for your reply.
Leather leggings have been in fashion forever but they are only recently available in Australia. It's a shame it took so long.

          Happy Holidays!

        • Especially if you drive a motorcycle! :)

        • +1

i ride a motorcycle as opposed to driving it, and I can tell you that soft lamb skin leather is not recommended protection! It's about as useful as your own skin if you come off a motorbike ….

  • Xmas decorations, cards, gift bags, gift wrapping…etc. for next year! :P

  • Some skincare and suncreams from Priceline at 40% off.

A few healthcare products, xmas lights for next year, a skirt and a top from Big W (both 50% off).

Kids clothing from Just Jeans at $6 a piece.

Leather wallet from Victoria Station - 60% off.

So - nothing spectacular but had fun none the less and it was as expected!

  • I copped an on-promotion Pioneer Head Unit and Pioneer reverse camera for $320 at JB HiFi. Off promotion, these items should be $500 - $600 for the head unit and $100 for the reverse camera.

The sales assistant was also happy to do me a good price on the control harness, leads and custom facia.

All up $800+ in value for $440!

That said, you have to do a fair bit of fishing to find a bargain worth talking about….

$5 turkey at woolworths, usually $30+

  • I bought Arrow Season 1 on DVD from Target for $22.50.

Target were having a 25% off sale on TV on DVD. Arrow was listed on the shelf for $50. It scanned on the in house scanner for $30 full price and showed the 25% discount taking it down to $22.50. I haven't seen it as low as this at either JB or Big W so I bought it straight away. There was only one left on the shelf after I got mine. I'm guessing it was a price error.

  • $4.50 trays of liqueur choccies at Target. Normally 20 bucks. That's about it this year.

  • My sales really started today. Today I was at Kmart Burwood in Victoria. They had a mass clearance of their XMAS goodies. I was going to be some food items but they were all made in china. In the end I managed to get:

-24 LED Multicoloured Christmas Light set ($2 each). There were quite a lot of these left as of 5pm.
-10 Pack Christmas Cards (25cents each). There were quite a lot of these left as of 5pm.
-4 Metres of Tinsel (50cents each). There didn't seem to be any left as of 5pm.
-Toilet Fragrance Kit (I don't know why I bought these; 50 cents each). There were quite a lot of these left as of 5pm.
-Novelty Appliances (Fairy Floss Maker, Ice Cream Maker, Milkshake Maker, Crepe Maker—were $18, now $9; The other makers —were $12, now $6?). I could only see the chocolate fountains left ($6?) as of 5pm.

Christmas Crackers were also there in a packet of 24 (I think) for $1.

  • A Dyson DC35 for $435 at HN. Need this for moving out into my new home, and I hadn't seen a better price anywhere else. Very happy with this big ticket item!

Duke Nukem Forever $5 PS3 (lol)
Scanpan pot $60 (not a big bargain)

  • Swimwear at 45% off. I love the swimsuits. I've been lusting them since the lookbook was made. Aaaah.
