BlackBerry Z10 4G $285 Shipped from Noworries.com.au

170

Was looking for a BBZ10 after a friend told me that they now allow for Amazon App store. Was willing to pay $320 but found it at noworries for $285 instead. HK stock means no forced shutter sound.

Was wondering if it's true that android apps can be installed on this device if I have the apk files?
This makes the phone so much more useful

    • yes, it is true with 10.2 update

    • where did you see that?
apk's are available for some apps readily, others will likely be a pain to source.

      Good hardware for the $$$.

        1. You can install APKs directly through the phone with 10.2.1 through Amazon Appstore or others.
        2. With 10.2 you just convert the APK to BAR using a converter and sideload it through your computer (or sideload a bar someone else already converted).
        3. You can download the APK of any Android app from Google Play directly through an APK downloader website (such as evozi), easier and safer. It's not a pain to source any APK through this method.
        • How do they run? Can you get paid apps?

        • Paid apps aren't available yet only free ones.

10.2 runs Android Jellybean in the background so Android apps runs really well, they are really fast and generally free of any bugs, the previous 10.1 OS was a bit slow and buggy. However 10.2.1 will be even better, it will update the android runtime again to something newer so it will be even quicker and functional and as mentioned you will be able to download android apps straight from the app stores on your phone, rather than have to sideload them through your computer (which only takes a few minutes, but this will be more convenient).

As mentioned, I only needed to sideload the Android Snapchat app, everything else I use is already in the Blackberry app World: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Foursquare, Ebay, Evernote, SoundHound, WhatsApp, Angry Birds series etc. I did sideload the ING banking app as well although I don't use that much, that works perfectly. Has a few local apps which I have but don't really use like Virgin Australia, Air Asia, Foxsports News, Booking.com

You also get the marvelous Blackberry Travel and a better BBM experience than on android/apple.

Alot of people had Instagram sideloaded but the BB Igrann app is really awesome so no need anymore, it's currently in beta but works great and will be publically released soon (and it's free).

I guess it's a bit like windows phone as far as apps go with a few missing, but unlike windows phone, the android sideloading can fix any app your missing most of the time. I don't mind missing a few apps anyway for the awesome phone experience, but if you are all about apps and want every single app available and the best of it then it's not for you.

Got two phones from them. No worries.

  • has anyone dealt with them before?how ling would it take for shipping?

  • has anyone dealt with them before?how long would it take for shipping?

    • I've bought accessories from them before, they have been around OzBargain for some time. They arrived after 4 days. Website says 2 to 7 days depending on location. So I'm sure you will get it quite quickly.

  • Canon S110 for $199 is cheap. They sold 4gb SD cards a while ago for 1$, run out of stock and supplied 8gb instead. Seem like an ok company……

I searched for reviews before I bought the Z10. Reviews are generally good. Compared to Kogan, Noworries looks like the king of customer service.

    • If you need any help with it send me a message.

      I absolutely love my Z10 :)

Going to upgrade to a Z30 when they drop price a bit.

Got all the apps I needed from BB world. I just side loaded the Android snapchat (http://apps.goodereader.com/playbook/blackberry-playbook-pho…) and installed igrann which is being released soon (instagram client, you can download the beta at igrann.com), there's also a couple BB snapchat apps being developed as well in beta (snap2chat and snappy).

Missed this last time it came around at $299 + shipping and i thought that was cheap. This is awesome. Not a fan of blackberry, but all the reviews i read when it was released makes me curious… And the fact that some android apps can be side loaded just made this phone a heap more interesting…

Can the battery survive the day of normal use?

    • Mine lasts about 9-11 hours but I'm a heavy user, same with my friend with the same phone. My wife gets about 16 hours though, she isn't as heavy a user as myself, she reckons her s2 went for about 10 to 12 hours.

It's not great but not bad.

Anyone able of comment on battery life?

    • I was gifted a Z10 and been playing with it. I reckon one of the cons is the poor battery life, and it gets HOT. But then again, it's a new toy for me and I've been playing with it constantly.

I was really surprised how buttery smooth the OS is, it's leaps and bounds over my laggy android.

      • It will be normal after a few days, it does a lot of background syncing, adding information to contacts etc

  • Sorry for noob question, haven't used BB since the old Bold 9700.
Can you surf the web or use data from pre-paid plans (i.e LiveConnected) or do you need to specify you need BB data?

    • +2

you dont need a blackberry plan for these newer blackberries (bb10) they use the same plans as an iphone. and you cant get hotmail/yahoo acoounts setup without any problem.

  • I really liked my Z10, but it caused my internet to drop out at work. It was bizarre as no one could explain it, but as soon as my z10 connected to my network, I would lose the internet, disconnect the z10 and my internet connection would work again. It wasn't because of the number of devices connected to the network. (Bizarre) I loved the Hub, how all my activities were stored in order.
