  • I'm waiting for a deal on XPS 11 which comes with a higher resolution than anything bigger than it.

    Or the Samsung ATIV Pro.

Hmm yeh XPS 11 will be interesting, the wacom digitizer is what's dragging me in. Although people whine so much abou Surface's Touch Cover, tbh I really can't see the XPS 11 keyboard being much better (I don't actually mind the touch cover too much, although I haven't tried it for extended periods of time).

In terms of res, personally FHD is enough for me. Yoga 2 Pro's 3200 x 1800 gets to a point where things just become teeny and you have to use scaling to actually have normal usage.

Reviews aren't looking all that hot crash though

      • The XPS 11 keyboard has haptic feedback. You will know if the button has been pressed. I tried out the Surface cover, and there was no feedback. I didn't like it.

That said, I'd still prefer clickable keys.

        • Oh really? Haven't seen haptic feedback mentioned anywhere (only speculation). Everywhere I've read seem to say the only feedback is the "digital sound" when pressed (which people say is annoying and turn off immediately).

Would like to try it some point in store, but doesn't seem like any retail places have it

According to this review, and some youtube reviews / hands-on videos, it does have adjustable haptic feedback.

It's still no substitute for a real keyboard however..

  • Keep an eye on the dell outlet site. I picked up a xps12, 4th gen i5, 128gb ssd for $840 recently.

    • wow really, for a new one? that's crazy good. unfortunately only xps 15's there at the moment, but definitely will have it bookmarked. Cheers for that.

      • Dell Outlet sells :
        change of mind laptops or
        cancelled orders or
        returned and repaired ones.

      • Not new, "refurbished". I certainly can't tell any difference. Came in new packaging and has dell warranty. The 4th gen machines on the outlet don't last long, need to check often and be quick. I missed 3 before I landed one.

As I explained earlier, it can be a cancelled order before the delivery. In that case the items will be totally new or packed.
Or it can be a returned order when the user returned it unopened.

      Got an i7, 256gb, 8gb for $1035 a while back.

Be careful that Dell installs the recovery partition on the refurbished unit - they didn't on mine. Because it's win8 you'll have no way to reinstall unless you get hold of the technet iso (which I couldn't locate, even on the internetz).

I had to call Dell and fake a major malfunction to get them to send a usb drive with the OS on it. Good thing I did - a month later windows failed and I needed it.

Be careful if you need that USB to request it during the 1 yr dell outlet warranty. Otherwise dell refuses to give you the operating system that you paid for.

PS: I actually asked before purchase if I could get an OS disk and the salesperson said yes. She lied.

      • also a nice price, the best atm i can see on the outlet site is an i7, 128gb SSD, 8gb RAM with "No OS media included. Unit has minor scratches" for $1149. Which is decent I guess, although you only save $350 and get questionable quality of a device, so not sure if worth.

The Customer Service seems sketchy-ish too, so I'm thinking it's just easiar to go for a new device, although I guess everyone has varying experiences with companies.

Remember the cashback sites when purchasing Dell stuff.

    6% @ Cashrewards & 4.8% at Qwibble.

Works out to $95.94 or $76.65 cashback :)

    • Taken from Cashrewards site under the dell store page:

Important: If you use a discount or coupon code , other than specific coupon codes appearing on this site, your transaction will not be tracked and you will not receive rewards for this purchase. Also , please be aware that if you contact Dell regarding your sale , via email , through it's call centre or online, it is possible that a salesperson or call centre operator's name will be added to your order and if this happens you will not receive rewards for this purchase.

The "$x cash off" counts as a coupon and as a result you won't get any cashback :(
