  • Same function as Shazam or are there extra features that make it better?

    • +6

They're pretty much the same thing, however this one is the paid version of SoundHound - if you have Shazam Encore (the paid version) then you don't really need to get this.. But that being said, SoundHound paid is now free for a while.. So just get it anyway mate :)

I've always found SoundHound does a better job at recognising things.

Also, if you're using the SoundHound player you can enable scrolling lyrics (unsure if you can do this w/ Shazam).

      • I think their is a similar feature but is very limited to mainstream songs. Thanks guys! :)

You can actually hum some songs. Doesn't always work, but still useful at times.

Did you mean SoundHound Infinity, rather than the ordinary one?
    SoundHound ∞

    • Yes! My mistake - updating title.

  • -2

Not for Android by the looks of it :-(

  • Hi botftw. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I've had the infinity version of this app on my iDevices and I can't ever recall paying for it. Hasn't it always been free?

    • +1

That's odd, Infinity has never been free since the version in 2011.. The free version has always been free (lol) but not Soundhound Infinity.

      • I could swear black and blue it's always been free. Anyway, I love the app and use it heaps. Happy 2014!

        • Possibly you got the one from the UK store, that was a deal posted here a while ago when it went free.

IIRC, Soundhound started as a free app (called Midomi) in 2008, became a paid app in 2009, and then they released a free app again in 2010.

Anyone who bought it way back when for free ended up with Infinity, not the free version.

edit: Yep, I went into my iTunes purchase history, which shows the new name:

        • Nice detective work Steve. Must have got mine on initial release as a free app. Thanks.

  • I was wondering the same. This is what I found on the SoundHound website:

    • SoundHound (free): unlimited IDs

    • SoundHound ∞: unlimited IDs,
      ad-free, extra features

    • +1

from the FAQ on their website

What benefit is there to buying SoundHound ∞, when there are unlimited IDs in the free version?
Paid users tell us that they purchased SoundHound ∞ for the ad-free experience, especially on the unlimited lyrics pages. But we want to go further than that, so we are making SoundHound ∞ the lead app for SoundHound's new features. If you have an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, it already includes exclusive links to artists' Wikipedia pages, as well as Song Recommendations; if you have an Android phone, you'll gain access to a home screen widget, which allows you to identify music without launching the application.

the iOS extras don't sound that special. On the other hand SoundHound allows humming/whistling songs, whilst Shazam doesn't, i think

  • Cheers OP, downloading it now :)

Is this supposed to be ad-free? Why is there a huge ad for Apple's "12 Days of Gifts" in the app's home screen, which takes up 2/3 of the interface? (Pretty sure I downloaded the Infinity version, since there's an infinity symbol on the icon…) Is there something I need to do to get rid of the ads? :)

  • Thanks OP! I use this app infrequently, but still quite often - but not enough to justify the hefty price tag. This is a great App and fantastic for free.

  • I tend to find Soundhound takes less time to identify songs than Shazam. I'm not sure if it is actually true though.

  • Aye, not free since it was called Infinity.
I think I ended up with it from Midomi days.

  • OMG thanks OP. Not sure why this didn't trigger on my Appshopper. Been waiting for this to go free since forever.

Hahaha, thanks a lot - the number being stuck on 199 really was driving me nuts!
