  • Just done this myself, the $50 voucher comes in the post along with the card.

This offer has been on for a while just that it's been extended to if you are approved before end of Feb (used to be end of Dec). But I do agree that this is a great offer. Offsets your annual fee if you choose the annual fee card.

If you spend roughly more than $5000/year on your card it is worth it to take the annual fee card.

  • Great offer and I have one card with them but I can't apply for a second one.

After filling out the lengthy application I was declined-unsure why as I usually have no problem :(.

    • +2

My application was declined as well..

      • +5

At least you were not rejected. Declined is much nicer.

  • +1

I thought they always had this deal

    • They did. I've seen the tv ad 50+ times. But someone may not have known about it so it might help them

  • Get $50 OFF for a Single Coles Supermarket Shop with Coles MasterCard Application

    This requires editing/correcting, I believe?

Just applying will not get one the $50 deduction from ones "single shop".

I believe one has to have the application approved before getting the "deduction". As you must use the card to pay for the shopping?

"Offer extended - get $50 off a single Coles Supermarket shop when you apply and if approved by 28 February, 2014.3"

    • Partly incorrect - you do NOT have to use the Coles Credit Card - but you do need to be approved as the $50 voucher is posted with the credit card.

I used my $50 voucher about 6 months ago, and only recently made my very first purchase on the credit card.

I upgraded from the $0 fee, to the $50 annual fee card so I could earn FlyBuys points 4X faster, and they waived the fee for the first year.

Over the past 6 months we have had over $200 FREE groceries from Coles, using the $50 voucher plus over $150 of further discounts ($10 at a time, using 2000 points).

I recently put my parents BAS (business activity statement) payment on my credit card = around $4K = $40 free groceries for me with the points.

Just watch out if you activate the price protection you pay the card down/off before the date (which may be mid month = eg mine is around 27th of each month) otherwise you get pinged 1% of outstanding balance.

      • Explain how you got $200 free groceries and also the $150.

Is it when you redeem 2000 flyby points for anything, you get a $10 Coles voucher? So if you redeemed 2000 points for a $10 Coles voucher you get another $10 Coles voucher?

Then I heard you can't use these vouchers if you use Coles online. is that right?

flybys and such are such a sham. It is better to get keep the $0 annual fee card than pay $50 a year just for more flybys.

        • As I said above it depends on how much you spend on your card. In fact, this is the case with all credit cards with annual fees. Whether it's worth it or not is really entirely correlated to whether the extra points you earn outweigh the annual fee.
If you spend over roughly $5000/year on the Coles MC, then the annual fee card is worth it.

        • Not really, as others have said it depends on how much you spent. I have already accumulated 24000 points which is $120.

  • +1

Can I get the $50 off and then just cancel the card? lol

    • +2

since there is no annual free charge (first option), you can claim your $50 off first then cancel the card if want ^_^

      • GOOD :)

      • I don't think the annual fee plays a factor in whether you can cancel immediately or not.

  • +2

    thanks, submitted application.

    • you're welcome ;)

    • have got the approval.

long process, even had a guy calling me up confirming the details I entered.

Deciding between the two cards, using it for $3000 year groceries at Coles only.
Fee free: $22.50 dollar value on points a year
Rewards card: $45 dollar value on points but card costs $49

Will only use it mainly for free Coles delivery to I'll take the fee free.

    Thanks OP.

    • you're welcome ;)

    • Damn, application declined.

Maybe it has something to do with just being approved and receiving my 28 degrees card.

      • Another turn of events, after a quick phone call, I've been approved. How about that.

        • Received card already!

  • i will nver submit an application with that crew again~~~ waste of time ~~ i submitted the application last year and then they just ask for the most stupid details. I have never ever had trouble gettin shit loads of other cards except this one.

Their on line ordering system sucks, estimated cost! With Woolworths you know what you're paying when you order, no $30 plus surprise when the order arrives, discounts are all jumbled together, customer service quick but ordinary. Any issues ive had with Woolworths ive always come out happy, Coles for a major player, unbelievably ordinary. Wouldn't waste time on their cr card until they get their ordering system into the 21st C

  • Applied and accepted for this card before Christmas. Was told that the $49 fee the annual fee card is waived for the first year.

  • Applied one for myself and one for my wife and both got accepted will get $100. Thanks op

  • Comprehensive credit reporting starts soon. Just be careful of such offers as every enquiry reduces your score. specially important if you are going to apply for a mortgage. Might end up loosing more than $50.00. having said that I like this offer and am going to apply because its a good card and I think you get free delivery if you order online using this card at Coles.

    • True, but at the time of applying for a mortgage almost all brokers and lenders tell you "why not just cancel this/that card". Then you're good to go.

  • can you sign up for the coles card, wait for the $50 free voucher to arrive (and spend it) and then cancel the credit card?

  • Approved for the no annual fee card. Will get the $50 voucher, then cancel.

    Thanks!

  • Here's a tip which I just did, sign up for the zero fee card and upon activating it, request to be placed onto the $49 card. They waive the fee for the first 12 months. Earn maximum points then go back to fee free before the 12 months is up if you like.

So you get the $50 voucher and $49 off.

Best thing is you get to use the flashy silver card (the dark one looks so yesterday).

For some reason they sent me another exact same card and another $50 voucher.

So I have been given a rewards card with no fee and a $100 voucher. I wonder if I could just keep changing Coles cards and get a $50 voucher each time.

      • Can you use that $50 more than once? I think it is linked to the Flybuys account. I did what you described above and hope I might get another one.

        • You might be right. I'll let you know as I've just used the first one today.

        • Oldbugger, did you try the second $50?

        • Not yet.

        • I tried calling them to upgrade my card and get a new one sent out, but I had already activated my card and used it, so wasn't offered exactly the same deal as above.

I have been upgraded to the rewards card and they have waived the first 12 months fee, BUT he said it was an inline upgrade and they wouldn't be sending me out a new card - I could just use the card I had. So very likely I'm not receiving another $50 voucher in the mail ohwell :(

This might be because the card I had was already a silver platinum card, or it might be because they've realised what was happening with the double ups of vouchers. Out of interest, I am still curious if the voucher has a unique barcode on it, or if it is only redeemable once per flybuys account?

Ohwell, for anyone reading this who wants a free $50 - it's still a good deal to apply for the rewards card and ask them to waive the first years fees. It gives you 4x the points compared to fee-free card (approx 1% cashback instead of 0.25%) and once you've used the $50 voucher just cancel the card, or consider if it's worth keeping the card and trying to rack up points, then cancel it in 10 months time for "free".

        • Don't fret. I finally got round to trying out the second 50 buck voucher and it didn't work.

But on the upside, I claimed $10 at the till using 2000 points. I am accumulating reward points like no tomorrow on this thing. I can't redeem them fast enough.

It's a real bugger that one can't redeem them when using Coles online delivery.

        • I finally got a chance to use my $50 voucher a few hours ago and it just didn't work. Imagine trying to use a second one. Wonder what happened? I feel so unlucky tonight as I also couldn't claim the $10 from buying the $50 Myer gift card at woolworths.

So for both trips, I went out of my way to use these deals but ended up forking a lot of my own money. Arghh.. now I have to call them up and waste more time. ):

        • Ha, how annoying. So was that the first $50 voucher that didn't work? Have you activated your flybys online etc?

Makes me wonder what was wrong with my second voucher although Coles said to contact flybys over it. Meh.

        • Yeah, it was my first attempt. I've been using my mastercard for a month now, but never needed to buy anything over $50 so saving for that big trip. Had to fork out $100 of my own money that time.

I wasn't aware that you need to activate the flybuys. I've been a member for years and they just add the number on the back of the mastercard. What did you have to do?

        • Well I was new to flybys so I had to go and login online. In any case, contact Coles and let them know. Maybe they will just credit $50 to your account :p

So did you upgrade to the triple awards card getting fee free for first 12 months?

  • For those with the card do you have to use a separate flybuys card to accumulate points or does it work off the credit card? Carrying a flybuys card as well is a PITA.

    • Yes it works off the credit card (you don't have to carry around both cards). The back of the card has a little barcode which is exactly the same number as your flybuys card/number/barcode, so you (or the cashier) just turns it over and scan it like a regular flybuys card. And then you pay for your purchase with whatever card you want, doesn't have to be the same one.

      • +2

If you want to use flybuys dollars then you will need to carry around the separate flybuys card and pay with the eftpos machine and your pin.

If you want to use your credit card facility to get the $10 off your shop for the same amount of points as flybuys dollars then you only have to carry around the credit card.

Remember that the flybuys dollars will show on your receipt as a payment method and the $10 off your shop with the credit card will show as a DISCOUNT.

If you are trying to reach a particular target for a bonus points offer then you will need to spend extra in your shopping trip if you use the $10 off your shop feature on your credit card. For example, if you have an offer of 500 points for a $50 spend and you have 2000 points ready to convert at point of purchase, you would have to get $60 worth of groceries, use the credit card to reduce the total to $50 and then pay the balance with the credit card or another payment method. If you only got $50 worth of groceries and the toal was reduced by discount to $40 you wouldn't get the bonus points as you have to reach the bonus point total after all the discounts have been taken off.

With flybuys dollars you get the transaction total to $50 and then use $10 worth of flybuys dollars as one of the payment methods. You then end up spending $40 for a bonus offer where you had to spend $50.

Some checkout operators have been known to take the $10 off your shop with the 2000 points without getting permission from the card holder first.

        • +1

It's not the case for me.
If you want to use flybuys dollar at Coles, you definitely don't need separate flybuys card
anymore. It's great to carry only one, I didn't even know where my old flybuys card anymore. It works for me to earn point, and when I shop at Coles, it'd offer me to deduct my bill automatically whenever I have enough point (I usually use self-checkin nowadays, and it asks on the screen). It works for me since day 1 they have it (yes, I accepted the initial offer) and still works until last week.
And even that $10 show up as DISCOUNT in the receipt, it's actually treated as PAYMENT, as it still counts toward getting the fuel docket (e.g: buy $30 of stuff, use the $10 flybuys dollar, you'd need to pay the difference of $20, but you still get 4c fuel for spending $30). So, again, your example is not the case for me, otherwise, I'd have stop using Coles CC, as that simplicity is their only advantage I value

        • <— what pointscrazy said.

I have not personally used either of the two methods of converting points to dollars yet, I was just remarking that you (or the cashier) can scan the back of your Coles Mastercard which has the same barcode as your flybuys card.

Great info and thanks for the explicit examples of how the two methods of redeeming dollars for points differ - I will be sure to keep an eye out on the dollar total when trying to use up those coupons that give 500 pts for a $50 shop.

  • I wish one could use the flybys to get dollars off your shop when using Coles online.
