Don't know how long it's meant to take, but it's not instant. It still sys 25gb for me.

    • Turned out that the app was the old version, updated to v3 around lunchtime, 50gb now.

  • Is this available for android? The 50gb?

    • no although see forumninja's comment below.

If not keep your eye out here as 50mb was available for android in the past, so they may do another offer one day

  • Damn, I'm still on iOS 5.

    • +2

You can try signing in to your account on someone else's phone that has the new client.

    • +2

Jailbreaks for IOS 6.1.3 and 7.04 are out, no need to stay on IOS 5.

      • Finally

    • Same here. :(
My iPad 1 can't go higher than 5.
Will try someone elses IOS device. Reckon the IOS development kit would work?

  • I got email for 50gb upgrade conformation after I logged in to my iphone :)Note:: make sure that you have latest version 3.0 on your device.

  • got mine now :) thanks

  • Mine also says 50GB? How do they make money? 50GB is more than enough for many.

    • +4

      max upload size 250mb only

    • +3

"How do they make money?' - They get to sell your contents and make money!

  • If you had more than one Box account, can you log in from each account and get the 50GB for each account? Or is it tied into the phone's device ID?

    • I just did this, and got 50GB for a friend.
      (I have a Touchpad so originally had 50GB :)

  • Underrated cloud service, a lot of people don't like box but it's personally my favourite.

    1. Box
    2. Dropbox (only coz I have 54GB to be honest)
    3. GDrive

I have 3 x 50GB Box accounts (from a previous deal) and they all get a serious workout including syncing all my work files.

EDIT: I'm not an iPhone owner, nor did I get my accounts via an Android deal so I can't comment on that side of things.

    • I believe you 54 GB that you have from dropbox only for 2 years as you might have used your samsung devise to sign in

      • That's correct, Dropbox (not box) was a Samsung Android deal, I only use it for mobile photo/video to fill up that 54GB. Once 2 years expires I'll just leave it as safe storage, realising I can never add to it again. I'm over 25GB at last count so it's been good but I wouldn't pay for it.

    • I'm with Click_it on this. Box is my fave storage service. Used to go with Dropbox and Copy, but just love the simplicity of Box. Send all big files using it.
It is also my main source of online backup.
Only -ve I found recently was when I upgraded Box Synch to their version 2.2. I found that the files duplicated themselves on my local (SSD) disc and I couldn't do anything about it.
Wasn't much use to me with only a 128GB SSD and 30GB of stored files.
It was probably something stupid that I did, but couldn't find out what.
In the end I removed Box Sync app from PC and back up manually.

      • Box sync is not without its bugs, I agree it's definitely the Achilles heel. I never had dupes on my local drive but I had lots of them on Box's end, at one point I had to wipe my 30 odd gigs and just start again as it was the only way to correct the problem. This was all with an older (>12 months ago) version, said wipe hasn't seen a repeat. I think it was my fault though as I had sync running from 1 computer 24/7 but also another on occasion and it confused Box somewhere along the way.

But yeah, that aside it's been a life saver more than once for me.

  • If we have 50GB already in Box when sign in to new one do we get extra 50gb

    • Yes you do. I just downloaded the app, and it added another 50GB to the previous 50GB I got from owning a HP Touchpad.

      Total space: 100GB.

      • how long after you've logged in did you get the extra 50G?

        • I seemed to get it immediately.

        • didnt work for me are you using an iphone 5s?

        • +2

didn't work for me either (from ipad)!

      • Was it worth getting the HP Touchpad?

        • +1

Best $99 ever spent … though have upgraded to a Nexus 10 now for general use, it still gets very regular use as a media player and a touch remote for my TV.

      • Did you just do this the normal way.. ie use that account to sign in to the new v3 Box iPad app??
I've also got a Touch pad and was hoping that it would stack.. But it didn't :(

I have just logged in using a friends account and it gave him 50GB

it's 17Jan and the deal is still working :)

        • That's because it's valid for a month, not a day.

          https://box.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/201178517

        • Oh yeah.. 16/2 not 16/1 which i misread :)

err, i was referring to the title of this topic.. not your post which states 15/2 instead

    • it hasnt seemed to give me an upgrade. i had 50gb and i still have 50gb according to the online control panel

    • No change to mine. I had 50GB before. Now still 50GB after logging into the iOS app.

  • +2

Box can't give their space away. What use is 50GB (which I got years ago) when all ther other limitations make it unusable?

  • Did not work for me. I had 10gb. Updated app login/logout still on 10gb.

    • Ok the issue was - I was using iOS 7.0.0 and Dropbox app 3.0 is not available on that version. Updated to 7.0.4 got Dropbox app 3.0 and it worked.

      • On my iPhone 4S running IOS 7.0.4, I just installed the BOX app today which is version 3.0.0. After logging into an existing account, I still have 50GB, I checked just before I installed the app.

I'm connecting using WIFI … so not sure if that would be the issue.

        • Didn't stack to 100GB for me :(

      • I'm going to give this a go!
Just downloading the 7.0.4 update on a collegues work ipad now :)

  • I had 25GB and after logging in with my iphone, I now have 50GB. I thought the 50GB will add to the 25GB I already have?

    • Same thing happened to me.

  • Besides the free 50GB space, can anyone who has dropbox and Gdrive comment on why box would be better? Asking as I already have these and no point in getting another one if they are all similar. Thanks.

    • +1

I was once a Gdrive fanboy but I found it had issues, this was in the really early days so I'm sure it's all fixed now but back when it was 5GB, if I uploaded 2.5GB it was double counting it and chewed my entire 5GB despite the total content being half of that. In the end I found box and never looked back. Hard to say if it's technically better or not. Gdrive also have those privacy issues if they are still present. Perhaps if Gdrive is suiting your needs don't bother with Box. Or get Box anyway for the 50GB capacity and keep as a backup?

    • +2

I've got DropBox 12GB, gDrive 15GB, Box 50GB, & SkyDrive 25GB all free, some from previous deals. Box is OK, I mainly use it for archiving photos because they have no inactivity timeout. For day to day use though I use DropBox, works best for me and seems to have the most features. The main downside of Box though is the max file size of 250MB vs no limit with DropBox, 10GB with gDrive, & 2GB with SkyDrive.

When it comes to the online experience I quite like SkyDrive. Easy to use and fast and also comes with free MS Office Lite.

There are plenty of other peoples comparisons on different sites out there.

    • Thanks for the info. I got it just in case I need it later.

  • Got upgraded to 50G too, but didnt add on to whatever I had?

Unsure whether Box is better than Dropbox, but I love Dropbox! Except I only have 3gb on that :(

  • Personally I've come to prefer Copy over all the others. Clean and simple, never had any issues.

The best bit, if you share folders with other people, most other storage providers remove the storage amount from all people the folder is shared with, but Copy allow you to choose who gets docked the amount.

  • Already had 50gb from my Touchpad also. Now I have 100gb! Woot!

Notice people saying file size is limited. Mine is limited to 5gb per file which seems pretty good :)

    http://i.imgur.com/3ukoY2T.jpg

    • That IS impressive! My 50GB accounts still have the 250MB limitation. It's not a problem for me but that said I'd take 5GB if I could!

    • Do you remember how you got the 5GB upload limit? was it a deal?
or have you ever had a paid subscription (and they didn't wipe the 5GB limit??)) i'm hoping it's the latter cause that;s a hack i'd gladly sign up for a month for… then can the subscription to keep the 5GB upload limit!

  • Can anyone tell me, is the 50gb for life? Or perhaps, only valid for 12 or 24 months?

    • +2

      For life.

    • Should be for life, the other 50GB deals they ran were. To my knowledge they don't do the 12-24 month expire deals like Dropbox.

  • worked like a charm :) thanks OP

  • anyone know name of this app/software on MacOS and Windows? I couldnt find it.

      • I couldn't sign in using my account. The app is for business, isn't it?

        • +1

Maybe try this link instead it downloaded fine for me

          https://sites.box.com/sync4/

or directly here if its for mac

          http://box.com/sync4mac

(it wont give me the windows version as it seems to detect what system you are using)

There is one link on their site that requires logging in and doesnt work, so use the above

        • thanks for your helps
I downloaded and installed it successfully on my MBP. However, when I logged in, the app said "Enable box sync. Please check your settings or ask your admin to turn on Sync". My account is personal. When checking settings I could find that I need to upgrade to business to turn on Sync :(. Any idea please

        • wow this is really dumb

i had the same problem as you. turns out that if you sign up on iphone and get the 50gb account, you lose out on sync as a feature.

however, if you sign up on the website (on a pc for example), you get an account with the sync feature, though only comes with 10gb storage.

        • +1

actually, i just tried signing in to my 10gb account on ios app and it upgraded my storage to 50gb, plus sync still works.

so it's much better to sign up on the website and then upgrade to 50gb than to sign up on the app itself.

  • Hmm Box website say its not cummulative. Touchpad users seem to be the exception! - lucky loop hole?
    https://box.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/201178517

    • Not all Touchpad users it seems :(

  • I used to have 50gb, went down to 25gb a while ago. After insalling this on iphone it has gone back to 50gb.

  • just upgraded to 50GB, thanks OP

  • Thanks OP!

  • Why does the App require my credit card details to download ? I am not comfortable providing credit card details when I have two young kids using their own iPads with my Apple ID.

    • Make sure they don't know the password to the account, all good

    • what can possibly go wrong?

  • Just downloaded it and can confirm it takes around 2 mins for the upgrade

  • Not working for me. Guess it doesn't stack or at least not for everyone? :(

  • I'm completely new to these 'cloud' services. So pardon my ignorance!

I just downloaded/ installed in all my devices and started to synch files from by copy and paste files from my old dropbox account.

Files include small vids/ and images (roughly 3-4g worth). I've been synching since this morning 12am till now (more than 12 hours later) and it still says 'Syncing 563 files 11hours 57mins etc remaining'

Am I missing something? should I just close and reopen? I just don't want files duplicated/ etc and I don't want to interrupt its synch at the same time. Any assistance for newb?

    • That's actually faster than what my ADSL runs at. 3-4GB will take me much more than 24 hours. So just wait and let it do it's thing.

Having said that if it was me I would just leave the data on DropBox. And if I really wanted to move from one cloud to another I would use https://mover.io/ . They give 10GB free.

  • +2

I like BOX but find their computer applications dont quite work as well as.. say dropbox. Still great offer, i signed up.

  • I thought they had some stupid file size limits or something. I remember the first free data deal they did had individual file size limits.

  • -1

Their file count limit (https://support.box.com/hc/communities/public/questions/2002…) meant I uninstalled this the last time they had this kind of promotion.

    • whats wrong with their file count limit?

You might like to elaborate. According to your link there is a 100K file limit

      • +1

I unfortunately had more than 100,000 files that I wanted to sync / backup.

Other services have limits too (e.g. https://www.dropbox.com/help/39/en ) but many of them are greater than 100,000.

        • Fair enough, thanks for the clarification

although you might want to check here.

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:voting_guidelines

        • Defective product
Major issue with product in that it doesn't work the way it should.

          Yep, that sounds about right.

Maybe I am crazy, but I really expect a cloud backup service to not have a hard file limit (100,000) nor a 250MB file size limit.

        • +1

But it does work the way it should, its defined by the product specs of the Box. Now that may not suit you which is totally understandable, but if we use your logic, then Pepsi is a defective product because it doesnt taste like Coke.

Or if I define a car as a product that should do 140kph, then the mirage is a defective product, you need to be realistic here. The product is free.

Now if you know of other products that give 50gb free with unlimited file limits and no file size limit, that is for free, if so please share so we can all benefit from your wisdom here. TIA

        • I didn't realise I was on trial here. :)

That being said, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/cloud+backup has some alternate options - obviously not all of those are still available.

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/97559 for example, which is one option that I use, has no file size limit. http://wiki.zoolz.com/index.php/2012/11/is-there-a-file-size…
Obviously it is not exactly comparable to box.

You seem to have a personal issue with my original comment, so I reported it (my original comment, not your response) to the moderators so that they can investigate it. If your concerns are founded, I am more than happy for my comments to be removed.

        • +2

          I didn't realise I was on trial here. :)

LOL no I didnt mean that, but given that you were the only one to give it a negative vote, I wanted to understand why. As its a vote that as you said is to highlight a defect in the product, I just wanted to understand what you considered a defect.

Your right to an opinion is important and valid, by sharing warning and opinions we all help each other get bargains and understand if there are any possible issues with a bargain.

If I was concerned I would have reported it myself, but I wasnt, one negative vote vs a number of positives just tweaked my interest in why. From that a healthy discussion has ensured and a better understanding of your position on this.

          Thanks for this discussion.

  • Does anyone know if you can use any of these providers to automatically backup a 300megish file each night on a mac?

  • Even if it wasn't the case, can it do an auto backup on a file from mac?

  • How did I missed this post?! still time is there, downloading now and thanks.
