  • This may well be the price to get me to upgrade from my gen1 G15.

Can anyone advise if this is a bad move, ie is the g15 better for some strange reason (as happens with new models sometimes).

    • +2

I upgraded to a G19 from G15 and tbh not much of an upgrade. The colour LCD is the biggest draw, but I rarely use it for anything other than the clock function. I'm sure there are better apps available, but I've never sought them out as I find I never look away from the screen when gaming anyway.

      • Thanks for your comment RandonNinja!

The g19 screen looks smaller, and as I am using ADIA64 to show details of system stats on the g15, I am wondering if the smaller g19 screen will be a downgrade of sorts?

        • Screen is smaller but DPI is slightly higher so you can cram same amount on it but smaller :( I'm gonna stick with my gen1 g15, only upgrade from here is to a mechanical board.

    • g15 better for some strange reason (as happens with new models sometimes).

IMO it is. At least the blue one is.

Say, if you're upgrading and you're in Sydney, how would you feel like donating it to me? :D

No point going to G19 if your G15 still works fine.
I have the G15 and love it. Use the lcd for temps/cpu/gpu and netspeed. Apps the use it like teamspeak are really handy.

      • Thanks for your comments guys, I think I will keep using my original blue G15 till it dies then.

My only thought now is, for $85, should I grab a G19 and stick it away in the cupboard for that day when the G15 does cark it? lol, buyers itch I have. So hard to scratch.

A mechanical G710+ would be an upgrade.

A G19 is your keyboard with a colour screen. It doesn't justify it imo. In many respects, it would be a downgrade from your first-gen G15 as it has less macro keys and a worse key layout imo (the first G15 and the G710+ are arguably Logitech's most quality G-series keyboards) and given how widely supported the G15 LCD applets were and how many different apps were made for it, it just doesn't compare to the G19's rather small selection of 3rd party apps/game support.

I quite like my little colour screen.. it's handy having everything i need right in front of me…

Yeah but you have to look down and there's not much customisability. I've got 3 monitors staring back at me, so there's no shortage of screen real estate to fill up with Windows sidebar gadgets and metrics of all kinds, that I can keep an unimpeded eye on at all times; even during full-screen apps and gaming (unless I'm really in the mood for triple-monitor gaming, which is not always preferable depending on the game).

        • +3

Rubbish.. I have 3 screens as well and it's really handy to see the CPU/GPU utilization when in a game.. plus the time & weather is also good for a quick glance..

LCDHost allows you to customise it to anything you like..

        • +4

plus the time & weather is also good for a quick glance…

          Groundbreaking stuff.

Here's the rest of us living in the stone age checking our watches & glancing out the window! ;)

Oh come on… those are gimmicks at best.

Yeah I really need to keep an eye on the weather at 1 am when I'm sniping people in BF4.

Get a mechanical, you'll never go back.

        • What program or applet are you suing to get that display on the G19?

The original g15 screen doesn't scale very well so charts and graphs look awful most of the time. I'm showing details stats but resorted to just text display on my G15, generated by AIDA64.

        • LCDHost… using the EOS theme…

I have a friend who upgraded to a G19 to replace his G15 and he actually complains about it a fair bit, in particular, he finds it annoying that it requires a power adapter to actually work.

He finds it really frustrating when bring it along to LAN parties and the like, that he needs to bring yet another AC adapter, just to power the keyboard.

    • +2

I upgraded two (2) G15's to G19's When they first came out. Truth is it's not worth the money to upgrade, in fact I've gone back to an old G15 on my gaming system as the G19 always had issues with drivers & Macro's. I'd have switched my Media PC except I the other G15 got water in it's screen sigh

Main thing of note: The G19 has a power cord. It comes out of the keyboard in one shielded cord and splits 1/2 way along into a USB/Power adapter.

    • +1

One disadvantage of the G19 is that it requires a power brick to illuminate the keys and monitor (the keys work without it though, but there is no point in paying so much for just a keyboard). Another possible disadvantage is less macro keys. I preferred the G15 circular volume dial to the scrolling dial of the G19.

Very few applets use the colour potential of the G19's monitor. The ability to change backlight colours is nice though. Sometimes I change my keyboard to the colour of the day (eg Friday = Venus = Green). Why? Because I can.

I would keep the original G15 if it is functioning fine.

after using a mechanical keyboard, I'm never going back to logitech

    • Which mechanical keyboard do you have?

      • Probably an Razer deathwindow.

        • +7

          widow not window dude.

        • We should look into it dude.

          Think about it.

        • Thanks.
IMO the Razer deathwidow feels better than the G710+

        • -1

          I got the Deathwindow XP

        • why would you say that? i have quickfire xt with brown switches actually, you snooty little boy

        • -1

Mechanical are for those who need training wheels, or those too young to have been forced to use them through the 80's/90's

        • I must admit I wouldn't want to go back to the Honeywell clickity-clack sensation.

    • +1

Logitech makes mechanical too! The G710+ is pretty nice if you paint the orange bit black~

    • Logitech Have a Mech Keyboard for sale

  • I like my g19, had 2 so far, wouldn't mind getting another one.

    • You replace your keyboard every 2 years?

      • +4

I need to replace my mouse every 6 months….

They don't survive very often against walls :/

      • +5

        StarCraft player detected lol

        • +2

          You must construct additional keyboards!

  • +2

I've had my G19 for a while too. Screen is pretty much a gimmick, but I've found it most useful when displaying computer stats using custom apps (I prefer AIDA 64).

Would definitely not buy another one due to Logitech's lacklustre support and that I want a mechanical.

    • Should put irc on it and go in rooms that releases arrr linux :)

  • +6

cool… now i can fap and game and the same time! one extra screen for pr0n~

  • +4

This is a horrible and gimmicky keyboard. The only difference between this and a $10 keyboard is…. $75.

    • Agreed, my mate & I bought one each & they died within weeks of each other just out of warranty…never going over $20 for a logitech kb again!

      • You do know just because it's out of warranty doesn't mean they won't help you out.

        • +1

Mine was in warranty and they still didn't help.
Logitech Australia's after sales really is a joke.

        • Interesting, Big W replaced my Logitech kb when it jammed a key after 6 months use.

Not that its overly flash, just wireless.

        • that's funny because logitech replaced my keyboard out of warranty because I complained that one of my keys was louder than the other.

          Not even joking, haha!

        • Yeah, we tried…my mate got his G9 mouse replaced well out of warranty, but they wouldn't come at helping either of us with our keyboards for some bizarre reason?

I couldn't be bothered going the statutory warranty route for a KB, just noted the phenomenon for future reference! ;)

What about people who want the LCD screen? Anyway, its still a good deal in my opinion since it used to cost $400AU on the website or RRP for US$200 in the US. It's supposed to be the premium keyboard of logitech, even though it just has a extra screen.

      • The premium Logitech keyboards would be more towards the G710+. You will never use the LCD screen for anything more than a clock, and the pricing isn't a good way to judge quality.

I think the QFR is on sale on Amazon for about $60 + shipping atm. That is a much, much better buy for anybody looking for a decent keyboard.

        • Fair enough. The lowest price i've seen for the G710+ is $120 though. The G19 may be better if someone doesn't care whether their keys are mechanical or not. Mechanical just has a 'better' feel and potentially more durable.

        • The LCD actually is quite useful as some games support it (WoW, LoL, Borderlands) just to name a few.

  • Just got my new Das Ultimate. If you're a heavy pc gamer, or if you play more competitive oriented games (Dota 2 or CSGO) I would highly recommend a mech kb instead. You won't go back to rubber domes again.

  • Got it, looking forward to seeing how it performs.

I saw that Logitech had it listed for $399. Yeah right….

That red RRP price with a line through it is the best piece of marketing you can use..

    • +1

The RRP in the US is US $199.99 which is AU $220

Always compare prices with the US logitech website instead of AU.

  • Anyone tried this with the Mac? Would be nice to be able to at least monitor time/other things on my computer whilst playing Steam but hard to find any info online (maybe that's an indicator)?

  • I just never understood the concept behind this keyboard. I had G110, worked fine liked the configurable backlightning. I watch the monitor for information, games, movies. Why would I want a small screen at my hand at a computer?

    • Well one use is for people who play games and communicate with their friends via Teamspeak, Ventrilo, etc… You can program the screen to show you who joins and such. There's other uses too but that's one I can think of.

      • +1

Some people use it to show general information like weather, computer information etc. without searching it up. Some people might also want to check the time on it while playing a game instead of having to alt tab or exit the game.

        • I was thinking that but then there are much cheaper ways of having the time always visible… such as a $2 clock which glows in the dark.

        • Agreed. It's also used to show game information and some other stuff. I guess it's pay for convenience.

  • Look carefully before you buy, this keyboard has a serious problem against certain motherboard, cause USB & BSOD problem.
