  • The specifications look fairly hum-drum but the price tag is a little bit ambitious.

Is Samsung thinking like Apple now?

  • For half the price, i reckon its a worth contender for the iphone 5s when it comes size and functionality.

    • Agree. However it can't beat LG Nexus 5.

      • it can, if you want a smaller phone.

source: I have a nexus 5 and my partner hates it. She has a s4 mini and she loves it

  • Kogan is selling for $369 + 22.99 (delivery) = $391.99, not much difference. Still better if seller is reputable.

    • Not comparing apples with apples there - i9190 (3G only - grey import) vs i9197 (Oz stock TDM + FDM 4G)
      Android Enjoyed has i9197, though. $332.06 + $24 (delivery) = $356.06

I bought a i9195 for my sister 2 months ago - very happy. Pretty powerful, not too big (which is the current trend it seems).

  • Anyone know if they would charge gst on receipt for this? (trs purposes)

    • Looks like it does - for anyone interested - This product includes Manufacturer's Warranty. A GST-registered Tax Invoice is supplied with all of our items sold, providing the necessary proof of purchase required for warranty purposes.

  • It is A-tick stock, which means Australian Stock, not grey import. And manufacturer's warranty means Samsung warranty, which is double confirmation. Just be aware, it is dual mode LTE model, which means FDD-LTE and TDD-LTE. This model is best for Optus network.

    • Does this mean it will work on optus (live connected) 3g and 4g? - thanks

      • yes, it can connect to optus TD-LTE in Canberra. It is unlocked anyway, telstra and vodafone also no problems, but they don't have TD-LTE.

      • Yes but be careful since the majority of Samsung S4 Mini don't have the additional TDD-LTE feature to allow access to the faster Optus 4G+ speeds.

The Samsung website lists the official specifications for the GT-I9195T model sold in Australia:

        http://www.samsung.com/au/support/model/GT-I9195ZKTXSA-techs…

Samsung's website lists two GT-I9195T variants for Australia. The Open variant (Telstra/Vodafone) which connects with 4G FDD-LTE only. The other GT-I9195T Optus variant is the one with the additional TDD-LTE chip which is getting a lot of recent reviews.

A special note if you live in Canberra is that 4G mobile phones from other carriers won't work. The Optus coverage maps list only 3G and 4G+ (Optus TDD-LTE) in Canberra. There's no Optus 4G towers (the standard FDD-LTE) deployed in Canberra at the moment.

Other Samsung S4 Mini models found overseas are GT-I9190, GT-I9197, GT-I9195 (non T). The Australian GT-I9195T models have a larger capacity 2100mAh battery (instead of 1800mAh) and the phones are taller to accommodate for the different battery:
