Fujitsu 500Gb 2.5" HD in extl USB2 case & One Touch Backup software $139.99

40

As sent by OzStock by e-mail (I've link & details. Full specs blogged here:) http://www.bargainconfidential.com/blog/?p=1079 Specs below. EeePC 1000H intl?. What's your opinion?
OzStock has a 500Gb 2.5″ SATA External USB2 HD with One Touch Backup software from BackUp4All as an offer of the day:
Specs and inclusions (see http://www.ozstock.com.au/):
- Fujitsu 2.5″ 500GB SATA hard drive installed (MJA2500BH)
- One touch backup by Software Backup4all
- Super Slim; protection carry pouch
- Windows Me/2000/XP/Vista; Mac OS 9.x/10.x +; Linux Kernel 2.4.1.0 +

What do OzBargainers think? Seems a good deal to me.
Can this be installed in an Eee PC 1000H? Can't recall if it will take SATA or PATA 2.5" HDs.
Thanks!

  • I phoned OzStock to check if it can be instaled n the Eee Pc 1000H but they didn't know.
Googling, it would appear 2.5: SATA HDs are fine.
In my case, the Asus Eee PC specs match up anyway: http://notebookview.co.cc/asus/asus-eee-pc-1000h/

Based on the consumption specs, what do you think?

  • If it's a Fujitsu MJA2500BH, then offers one of the highest levels of performance per watt as per Tom's Hardware latest 2.5" HDD roundup at http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2009-2.5-mobile-hard-driv… .

2.5" SATA can go into a ASUS 1000Hx no probs as it's a 9.5mm thickness. So needs to be max 2 platters. Latest 250gb-per-platter 500GB HDDs being WD5000BEVT, 5k500.b, MJA2500BH, 7200.4 plus others, many in Tom's roundup.

  • Thanks for the link. It will be a decent first (likely the last!) hardware upgrade, aside from a 2Gb SODIMM, for the Eee!

  • Sounds very good price. Did anyone notice the Warranty of 6 months? That is the lowest I have seen for disks.

bizi, Will you be adding the shipping cost to the price on top?

  • No, I'm not adding the $7.95 delivery in this post (I put it & lots more into my earlier blog entry, linked above). Now here's why…

The lower pickup price can help OzBargainers :) - If you can get OfficeWorks to sell you a similar 500Gb product from the shop (5% price beat guarantee), you do even better than me. :)

(My friend is collecting something else next week from the retailer and will collect the prepaid order for me).

Delivery at $7.95 is cheap, but keep the OW option open.

The short warranty is the only risk, IMO.
I am surprised by this, too, thinking Futitsu would have a 12mth wty.

Why is there relatively low interest in this deal - seems really good for me, so what am I missing? :)
