  • If I'm someone that's not that into turn based RPG's, should I still give number VII a go? Just hear so much hype about it.

    • yea if u want. those who are hyped up about it means they played it during when they were kids. now theres a remake it became popular again lol. but if u wanna get into turn based RPG i would recommend it!

    • yes

I don't think you would be able to play the old version, just play the remake

Just an FYI to anyone who's sitting on the fence about buying these FF games, Square Enix very rarely puts them on sale and this is from what I can remember the best price you'll see on PSN.

I've never played a FF game, which one do you think i should start with? which one's the best? I'll be playing it on PS3

      • +1

ff7 or ff8, but those 2 were my fave back den hahah. both have good story

I would still recommend IX to anyone as it's got a very simple battle system. I'm going to buy FF IV complete for my Vita. Haven't played that one in a long time.

    • The last one was around the same time of year, last year, also for a very limited time. Pretty sure these are the only time these games are on sale. Interestingly FF3 wasn't on sale last year either. :(

FYI FF XIII-2 has a demo on the US PSN Store if you want to try it out before purchasing

  • What are we he best ones to get with regards of how long the game is in hours and gameplay

  • Noob here. Do i need an AU ps account to buy thr digital copy of the games?

  • some of these games work on the ps3, psp and psvita!

Would be upset if I got one on the ones that didn't work…

    • Just to clear this up.
FF 1-4, Tactics and the Dissidia series are only playable on PSP and PS Vita
FF 5-9 are playable on PS3, PSP and Vita
FF 14: A Realm Reborn (MMO) and FF 13-2 are only playable on PS3.

I'm sure the OP can edit it in to make it clearer, but going directly to the sale is just as easy.

  • I'm thinking of getting VII and VIII from hearing so much good things about them.

Will it be painful playing them on a big screen due to the old graphics?

Are any of the newer ones worthwhile?

    • I tried getting back into FF IX on the vita, and even with it's tiny screen, found that quite painful to play, and even got a bit nauseated. Adversely, my sister managed to sink quite a lot of time into FF VII playing on a 42" LCD, so I guess it comes down to what you can tolerate.

I think most people's issues with FF XIII / FF XIII-2 are the battle system and the linearity of the games, as they definitely moved a long way from such titles in the series like FF 7/8. I'm not sure if that makes them bad games more so than bad by association and/or personal biases of playing earlier games. I've started playing FF XIII-2 and am really enjoying it; the time travel thing is really cool, and although the battle system is more or less the same, I don't feel its anywhere near as bad as I thought it was. Oh, and they 'opened' the game up a little bit, so its not as 'on the rails' as FF XIII was. If you haven't played the others, I don't think you'll have the same bias as older fans of the series, and would rather enjoy them. In fact, a friend of mine only got into the series at FF XIII, and he rated it rather highly.

  • Thanks OP. I've been waiting for a FF sale. Grabbed IV-IX as I'm planning on getting a Vita when the FFX and FFX-2 HD remake comes out in March and would be good to play the older titles again.

For anyone who's a fan of the turn based system of FFX and the job class system of V/Tactics, I recommend getting Bravely Default on 3DS. It's not a FF title, but it's basically the spiritual successor of the 4 Heroes of Light and made by Square Enix. Having a great deal of fun with this one, and for me, has the same feel as Tactics A2 without the grid.
