OP says he found it in his local Kmart. Maybe the Plasma ball is not available online and was only available at his specific store :(.

I have purchased it in Moe but I have seen it in a few Vic shops

I so want one. My last USB plasma ball broke no less than having it on for 20 mins. Darn kids. At least I got my 20 cents worth I paid for it at Officeworks.

I love mine, wanted one forever but there have been proper ones that cost a fortune or really crappy ones. This ones seems solid and 6.- are next to nothing.

that ones only 1/2 the size of the kmart one so not really comparable.
These are cool. I have one myself. But its novelty has worn off for me. =( It is now gathering dust on my side table.

Mine cost $80 in 1987. Mind you, I still have it and it works so I guess I got my money's worth.
That was back in the day when 1c and 2c copper coins were easy to come by. You put the coin on top of the plasma ball then put your finger near the coin. A spark would bridge between the coin and your finger, burning a small dot of flesh black with almost no pain. I used to have little smiley faces burned in my fingertips when I'd been particularly bored.
