  • Ha ha.. no bargain here. Have a look at the Horize W650SR posted earlier on OzB… that has full HD IPS screen and better spec for cheaper price.

    • Horize who?(I know it's rebranded Clevo, but then again I doubt many people know about Clevo either) HP is more respected brand and there are heaps of HP laptop parts available on the market, plus Bing Lee is one of the major retailer in Australia which means I can a warranty repair done more easily.

To be fair, the Horize laptop deal doesn't include Windows so to compare them directly, you'd need to add $99 to the price to be a direct comparison. And of course, shipping takes a week or so to get the product to you.

But I agree that even for an extra $99, the Horize is easily the superior machine - better GPU, higher-res screen, SSD and room for an additional HDD too.

without an FHD screen its useless

      • It's not useless without a FHD screen. Not everyone wants FHD.

FWIW though, I do agree the Horize deal is much better.

The screen(15.6 ich) is not even big enough to recognize a difference between FHD and 1366 x 768.

        • +1

          seriously? the difference is massive, even between 1366 x 768 and 1600 x 900

        • -3

Dead serious. Plus, the graphic card(of the laptop) will struggle to play anything over 1366 x 768 in most cases, so you end up playing games at 1366 x 768 anyway. I don't see a point of paying extra for FHD.

        • The point is that you aren't paying extra dude.

I don't think so, my 640m plays most games I throw at it comfortably on medium settings at 1600 x 900

        • It's clear that motor89 hasn't used a full HD laptop before.

        • Not only games.. Movies are a huge boost when you are that close to a screen and you have FHD

You can get the Full-HD version of this HP Envy Touchsmart laptop, PLUS a 24GB SSD cache drive in addition to the 1TB HDD, from ShoppingExpress for less - $1146 plus shipping [example postage to Sydney is $34.95 including insurance].

I managed to pick mine up on Boxing Day for under $1K, but still - $1146 for a superior laptop is a better price than Bing Lee.

  • Paying $1000+ for a gaming laptop does not make a sense to me. You can buy an identical or even better laptop under $800 at Dell outlet or Acer outlet. Sure they are mostly refurbished, but you would be just like a new laptop.

For instance, Dell Outlet is selling GT 750m equipped laptop at $749. If I was in the market, I would rather buy that one.

    • Gaming on a laptop doesn't make sense to me.

      • Ditto.

      • Some people want portability. Personally I play games on the train with my laptop (amongst other things I use it for).

    Are you still friends?

    • I guess not if his friend checks out ozbargains

      • If he was my friend I would call him da deadman (especially after I finish with him) :)
