damn damn damn. Been waiting for this to go on special. Pulled the pin two weeks ago on another brand. Very nice unit by the reviews and specs.

  • +3

This is our lowest advertised price for this model ever.

How does this price compare to other stores ?

I'm also very keen on getting a free Ship…

    • +7

You are welcome to check. Should be the lowest by a fair way, spec for spec.

**Also the free ship code can be used on any notebook on our store. That was just a little extra bonus for you Ozbargainers.

    • +17

      what size is the ship?

      • +2

should be at least can carry the laptop box.. anything bigger is a bonus.

      • +5

The size isn't important. It's the motion in the ocean that matters.

  • +1

is this with back lite keyboard as well?
i was interested on this and checked on this last night…..it was selling $1139 plus shipping yesterdat

    • This model does not have a backlit keyboard.

You can purchase this at $1139 with no SSD as per yesterday also.

I actually changed the price on this last Friday when we sold out of the W840SN (more or less).

As mentioned, a computer store that focuses on laptops and sells the Horize brand that a lot of people love. I have personally bought through LBO before and received good service and after sales support too.

  • +1

    Hey Rep,
My son bought exactly this deal from you late last night. Any chance of a refund on shipping???

    • +57

Sure thing, just send in an email and we can arrange that for you.

      • +9

        Thanks! Great PR.

      • +17

Well done jackkel, it's customer service like that we love here on OzB

        • +5

          Anytime Broski/Siski

  • +1

Good thing I didn't jump on the last deal!

  • Any idea on battery life? Also the warranty. Thanks

    • +6

Battery life officially is 6 hours.

However, this is a Quad Core FULL i7 CPU. If you are running anything mildly intensive it is going to shoot down.

We have comfortably achieved 4 hours battery on this model with 20% load.

Warranty is 1 Year RTB. Can be extended, or upgraded to pickup/return.

  • +1

Great that it has a matt screen!

    • +2

      Matte*

      • +13

        On reflection, I prefer Glosse*

  • +1

Decent card, great price, what would you recommend for cooling? Will it have oclverheating issues as with most laptops?

    • +8

what would you recommend for cooling?

      Fujitsu

  • +1

Nice price, GPU won't play many new games at High settings, but for the $$$, very good.

Add a OS and HDD to the second slot and for <1500 you're done.

You can get a new Asus G750 with 765m on ebay if you want more graphic grunt / bigger screen, but does not come with SSD (has a slot tho).

  • I'm a bit iffy about the build quality on these, after looking at some reviews online of different Horize models.

The money can't buy you more, but it just looks so flimsy! As much as I like saving money, I don't like cutting corners in this type of thing :P I'm sure someone will find this deal useful though, because those specs/price are pretty darn good.

Not really comparable to an ultrabook, though (as the "ultranote" name might suggest).

    • +8

No, you can't compare it to an ultrabook. As it is against Intels rules to have a full scale CPU in an ultrabook. It must have ULV. Also it must be lighter. And unfortunately you can't do either of these things when talking a 45w processor.

Flimsy, I don't think so. I ran one of these (albeit the W650EH older model) for 9 months and it never missed a beat. I only recently changed to the W670SR as I like a big screen and a backlit keyboard. Each to their own, but these are no lesser quality in build or materials than any mainstream brand. Sure it hasn't got aluminium, but then it comes back to cost vs want.

    • +4

I think the real value in this deal is the IPS display. IPS screens have much better viewing angles - just compare an Apple Macbook pro to your average PC laptop to see the difference.

Although I haven't see this screen in person I have been researching the cost of a 15" FHD IPS laptop with a 4th Gen i7 processor. Some examples - Vaio Fit 15A (looks great as it can be used as a table as well though), price $2K, Lenovo W540 workstation, price $2K, etc :-)

      $1200 seems pretty good.

    • +2

Actually, In my experience, the build quality in Clevo's are actually far superior to pretty much all the major laptop brands.

I've had laptops from Asus, Samsung and Acer, and my clevo is easily my favourite laptop ive ever bought (as far as build quality goes)

  • Hi Rep,

Not related with this deal but I have a question.

I'm actually interested on p150sm, I noticed yesterday you pulled it out from your website. I've sent email and someone replied that new model is coming to replace it. What will be different in the new model?

    • Not a lot we can answer yet because of NDA.

But there will be a different keyboard in the newer model. It will look the same and same processor. It may, or may not have updated graphics.

      • Whilst you are on NDA, when is the date of the NDA breaking?

        • March 10th I think? I would have to look it up, but somewhere around there.

  • this is a great gaming laptop for light/medium gaming, nothing comes close for this money, although you won't be playing newer games like FC3/Metro Light etc at FHD/Ultra details, but the good points include good battery life and the Plextor M5M although it's small it is fast, 501mb/s read/462mb/s write, full review here http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-One-K56-3F-Clevo-W650SR-…, note the differences, you are getting the matte lcd with 8 cell battery, but one odd aspect is the weight, review unit is 6 cell weight 2.586kg but this is 8 cell and is 2.4kg, 8 cell packs are always heavier(and usually stick out of laptop!) i wonder if the newer matte lcd is slightly lighter than the gloss lcd?

    • +1

      Yes you are right.

The reason their test unit is heavier and also thicker is because it is using a traditional TN panel which are much heavier and thicker than the newer IPS type which is on this notebook. The 8 cell battery doesn't stick out at all, it is the same dimension as the 6 cell.

      • thanks for the quick reply!
so the lcd contrast ratio is much better than the TN glossy @588:1?
i am very tempted for sure, but the GT750M is falling into the mid range, it's the same core as the GT650m, if this had the 760M even if the price was say $100 more i would order it in a heart beat!

        • Contrast ratio is 400:1 on the IPS matte display.

It is worth to note though that the glossy display will be artificially advantaged by the glossy coating. If it were in matte it would be much lower.

          The other specs worth noting:

          6 Bit colour
          300 cd/m2
          WLED Backlight

If you have used an IPS panel before, you will note that they are always more colour rich than the TN equivalent. I am not sure exactly why, I am not an LCD engineer, but even versus the 95% Gamut Matte panels we have for other models, these always come on top.

  • How is the cooling system on Horize laptops?

    • This particular model uses one heatsink for both the CPU and GPU and one fan. It is adequate but by comparison to the higher end models like P151SM1, P170SM etc they are much better for cooling. The system is capable of keeping it cool enough as it is only a 750m card.

  • The Cons according to http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-One-K56-3F-Clevo-W650SR-…

    • High temperatures and noise levels
    • Port locations are not optimal
    • Weak sound system
    • Space bar not working adequately

Imo the high temperatures and the space bar problem are the only real factors to consider, and might be enough to put me off on this deal. Someone convince me otherwise ;)

    • laptop cooling pad + external keyboard=solution?

      • wouldnt want to be taking an external keyboard everywhere i go, if anyone has experience with this keyboard/laptop, is the problem that bad for typing notes?

        • I used one every day at work for 9 months, I don't remember having any complaints about the keyboard. But maybe it's what you get used to.

As for high temperatures and noise levels, nothing out of the ordinary. If you have a 45w CPU and a GT750m graphics card, isn't bound to get warm. I only ever noticed noise when gaming. It's quiet the rest of the time.

  • Hi, Rep, what happened to the i5 processor option? i7 seems excessive for this rig for me.

    • Hi, this model we do not have the i5 processor for. The older W650EH had the i5, but this one is only i7 sorry.

  • Very keen. Question is Win 7 or 8. 90% gaming, & surfing.

    • +1

Only reason I would go for Windows 8 would be to try Project Spark beta out. Other than that, would go windows 7

      • Why, is Windows 8 more resource intensive or something?

        • Project spark only works on windows 8, and if I get bored of it I will probably switch to windows 7

    • +1

Windows 8 makes me cry a little bit every single day. It seems to be locked into moron mode until you download something to unlock it and turn it into Windows 7. And at that point you may as well have got Windows 7.

      • +1

I agree! There are many things that are to be admired on Windows 8, but it is outweighed by the negatives!

        • +1

You guys make Win8 sound to Win7 like how Vista was to XP lol

          Windows XP and 7 FTW!

  • Hi Rep,

Any good deals for ~$500 - 8gb ram laptop?

    • Sorry Dnkei,

Do not have any machines in that price range.

      • I am also looking for a laptop at the price range of $500-$700, do you have any good prices ones?

  • +4

Good deal, and +respect for the seller actually sticking around to answer questions rather than the usual post and run.

    • +1

You are most welcome. Let me know if any q's.

  • Any deal likely on the W550EU in the foreseeable future? I seem to recall it was $50 off a month or so ago.

  • I have to ask because I jumped on this deal earlier, how much better is this current one compared to the other one? Can anyone make me feel better about the previous purchase?

    • This one has a more powerful cpu and slightly better graphics. You one is lighter(14inch compared to 15.6in) and has a longer quoted battery life mostly because of the ULV cpu.

    • If the previous deal flopped then maybe this current deal couldn't be possible. In that case you'd have missed a bargain notebook.

This is posted from an AMD Athlon XP 2500+. I've been objecting since newer computers than mine keep getting faster for the same money :P

    • Better? Well it is subjective.

The first one was an actual ultrabook with long battery life and much thinner and lighter.

This is heavier, fatter and less battery, but faster graphics and faster CPU. Also has an optical drive.

Each to their own, both are good deals.

  • +1

do you have any deal for a 13" screen

    • +2

Yeah would love a deal with W230ST

      • I'll keep that in mind if we do another promo.

        • +1
Would jump on the W230ST in a flash

  • I want to buy one but I can't wait for 15 days for the laptop to be built, can you build one quicker?

    • I would like to know the same!

      • It may be possible. You are best to ask our sales team before ordering and we will see if we have the parts allocation for your order to be built in time and enough resources.

  • how is this compared to HP ENVY 15-J041TX?
    Intel i7-4700MQ(GEN 4)
    8GB RAM - 750GB+24GB mSATA
NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M (2 GB GDDR3 dedicated
    15.6" Diagonal HD FHP BrightView LED 1920 x 1080.
    4 x usb 3
    1 hdmi
    beats audio etc… plus WIN 8 64bit

MSY selling this for $1099. http://msy.com.au/Parts/notebook.pdf

  • +1

I'd be interested in a 13" laptop too!

Rep, you guys should look into making a 13" laptop for uni students, without all the hardcore gaming stuff to keep the costs low ;)

    • I will keep that in mind, thanks.

      • Also more specifically, something that 100% meets the DET BYOD program currently inplace for high schools.

      • Hi Rep

Let me know if you can do a deal on a P150/151, which is the range I am more keen on. Thanks.

        • +1

Sorry our P150SM are sold out and waiting for refresh. I think P151SM1B is also starting to get low.

  • From the Net :
"The Clevo W650SR is a mobile all-rounder with multimedia qualities: The latest processors and powerful graphic performances in combination with a highly luminous non-glare Full HD display make photo and video editing seem like a child’s play. "

Although according to Videocard Benchmarks Web site
    http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+GT+750…
    GeForce GT 750M Average G3D Mark : 1537
and it is sitting quite low according to their chart.

so, I am wondering if this laptop will be good for video editing ?

    • +1

You do realize that link is comparing top-end desktop graphics card to a 750M (mobility graphics)?

To answer your question - If you are really serious about video editing, get a desktop.

      • It is exactly what I thought. Thanks anyway.

PS especially taking into account that I already have one so I won't need to spend money on PSU, case, HDD, DVD drive, keyboard, and mouse.

  • Why'd you change the price? False advertising?

    http://i.imgur.com/GXSHqAb.png

    • Looks like the price without the ssd?

      • nah it wasn't i'm sure

        • $1139 is the price with no SSD.

        • ok, you're probably right

    • +1

      maybe to cover the shipping?

I asked him for free delivery from the previous deal, but he said 'no' =\

  • Got any cheaper laptops that are good for watching 1080p movies?

    • Sure, perhaps the W550EU would be of interest? It has the FHD panel but with just a dual core i5 processor. Fine for 1080p no worries.

      • i5 are quad cores, just no hyperthreading (like what the i7 has)

  • What is the maximum RAM that these can take? how many RAM slots does it have?
I'm looking for something that can take 32GB RAM.

    • What tasks on a laptop could you possibly be doing that requires 32GB RAM?

      • The answer is always "porn".

      • Virtual machines. Studying virtualisation requires many VMs, and therefore a lot of RAM. My current laptop is struggling with 16GB.

    • 16GB is maximum.

You would be best to look at something like the P151SM1 if you want something capable of 32GB.

      • Thank you.

  • I bought the deal (now waiting for it to be built), but am thinking of adding extra SSD. Will the SSD from the Amazon deal fit?
Sorry I'm not a tech savvy person, so just wondering if it will fit and if it is something easy to do this ourselves?

    • Haha, same here, got the 480GB mSATA from Amazon, now looking to buy a suitable laptop to slot it into! The above deal comes pre-loaded with a 128GB mSATA. Not sure if you need to specify another mSATA slot in your order.

      • Just remove the msata ssd off your order (saving you 70 bucks) then put your 480gb one in.
