Chromecast is pretty locked (worse than Apple):
The DNS is hard-coded so you can't use US-block for Netflix/Hulu
The function to watch movies from your NAS has been removed.
And it updates automatically during the installation so you can't root it anymore.

The developer kit was released yesterday so it should have much more support in coming months.
The API was release in the last 24 hours .. hopefully this frees up some of this ability via 3rd party tools. Plex will be streamable shorty - which is what I'm after .. now I just want to get a chromecast from Google for a decent comparable price to the US.
Can play Plex through it now.

They have just opened up the SDK.
They released the SDK to the public on Monday, so it should start improving.
Easy to fix Forward the google dns's in your router to a lan IP (127.0.0.1)
Setup Getflix DNS into your router
once the chromecast relises it cant reach the google dns it uses the DHCP ones
Obviously, your information is incomplete. You can so root it, as long as you do it as soon as you open it up.

yes, its pretty useful for playing videos from youtube, i stack up playlists for music, short videos, movie trailers etc, working well

I have one, but I bought it from Amazon (shipped to a US address).
Love it. Makes it easy to watch YouTube videos and content from other sites.
With the SDK opening up, any number of sources will integrate Chromecast into their plans. In the meantime, I plan to install a VPN and look into Netflix and other international sources.
But for ease of installation and use, I give the Chromecast a thumbs up.Now $60 NOT a bargain
sorry guys who missed the deal, I have observed fluctuation in the price $39-62 from FishPond, reasonbening I posted the deal as soon as I saw it…:(. However keep an eye it will go down again…:)
it's not your fault, fishpound ALWAYS jack up the price after it get quite a few orders…..

Might be worth contacting someone from fishpond and asking them what their game is? They might not like their deals being posted on OzB due to stock limitations and that's whats going on with the price hikes on the user posts that make it here.
Maybe they have an automatic pricing system that takes into account stock, demand (purchase rate).
ie if lots of stock and no orders in x days discount x% if still no orders discount xx% (until some set minimum is reached) … once orders come in at some set rate ( say 4 in an hour or amount say after 4 sales re evaluate price) set price back to "rrp".Just say'n it might not be a person messing you around it might be the system.

Don't order this from these jokers… I ordered one Nov 25th Jan 25th still nothing and order showed pending only to be told they couldn't source it from supplier so they refunded me a credit!!!
It's down to $49 now for anyone interested. I've received most of the things I have ordered from Fishpond but agree that their pricing is both weird and frustrating.
