As received by email:

Do you know a teenager in Canterbury who wants to earn a new bike?
In case you haven't heard, we're excited to deliver a new program called The Happiness Cycle aimed at getting Australian teenagers physically active.

The good news is that our next event is being held in your local community in just over eight weeks!

We’re looking for 15 and 16 year olds who live in Canterbury to attend our event on Saturday 5 April at the Morris Lemma Indoor Sports Centre.

For the chance to earn a brand new bike, all the teenagers have to do is:
Register at www.happinesscycle.com.au
Attend the event on Saturday 5 April
Assemble their brand new bike, collect their helmet, locks and lights and ride home!
There’s also a smartphone app to download called HappiCycle which maps out their ride and lets them compete against their friends.

Help spread the word and let’s get teenagers in Canterbury on their bikes and physically active!

For more information, visit The Happiness Cycle website.

Details:
What: The Happiness Cycle - Canterbury
When: Saturday 5 April
Where: Morris Lemma Indoor Sports Centre
Who: 15 and 16 year old teenagers from Canterbury

I checked the website Calender - there are a few councils but limited to NSW and VIC at this stage

http://www.happinesscycle.com.au/events.html#/nsw (BANKSTOWN 08 MAR )

But I'm not sure if the exact same age criteria exists - the initiative freebie is by Coke and Bicycle Networks

When you Register it's also requires some sort of 'Pledge'

Please excuse or correct incorrect formatting/date expiry( I put it to the end of the month) /information etc

who is paying for them ?

    • It says coke and bicycle networks.

Sounds like a competition to me

It's basically build and collect it… you take it home.

Chance because if you can't build it then too bad… bikes are easy to build.

Who the hell is Morris Lemma? Was he Premier after Bob Farr?

  • Sounds like a great deal for teenagers, they learn how to build and maintain a bike and get the one they built for free.
Quite restrictive only allowing 15-16 year olds though, maybe they'll expand it further down the track.

  • Why Bankstown/Canterbury of all places?

    • I suspect they've chosen particularly (profanity) up places where kids really need a hand up and something to do other than write graffiti and smoke pot.

Noting that, in Victoria, they're doing Geelong (where the very few big employers left - Ford, Shell and Alcoa - are all about to shut down) and Shepparton (where the SPC factory just got knocked back their $25M bailout request, and there's no local industry other than growing and canning fruit).

Don't shoot me, I grew up in Bankstown. It was particularly (profanity) up then too.

  • Here's a link of the background story and a pic of the bike - a fixie.

  • Pretty cool looking bikes! "we’ll be handing out more than 5000 bikes to teens (aged 15-16) across Australia by the end of 2014." https://www.bicyclenetwork.com.au/general/bikes-and-riding/9…
Wish I was a kid again and lived in one of those areas.

  • received a confirmation email, anyone else received one or know someone who has as well?
