TDK Mpi110 Headphone with Mic $15 at Officeworks in Store Only

70

I think it was OzBargain mention worthy @ $15 from Officeworks. The headphone is listed on their website as 'In Store Only' and has a store availability link which should come in handy before you head out there.
The same headphone going on DSE for $39.98

My Review:

Thoughts:
It by no means will match anything that is considered the 'Big Guns'. But for $15, it is totally worth that. For example, if you like your sound good you can buy something like lets say Sennheiser Momentum, however that comes with its own price tag to match. Point being, we get what we pay for, and here we are paying $15, and in return we get something that works.

Hope this was helpful.

    +1 for the Lazy Susan

  • Stay well away from budget TDK headphones. That's all I'll say.

    • I think you should stay away from $15 headphones.

      • Just curious.. lets say you had only $15 to spend and no more.. what would you pick?

        • Philips SHP2000/2500/3000 (3000 is the latest model, there should be some stock of them floating around; otherwise you can still find the original SHP2000's and 2500's on Ebay).

I bought some SHP2000's about 5 years ago for exactly $15 dollars from HN (they were in some bargain bin). Still have them. They trump other cans that cost 5 times as much. Way better than the god-awful Senny HD201's which I also had. And they are incapable of being uncomfortable, literally. I've worn them for 5 hours or longer.

        • Good suggestion.. Amazon got the 2000 for USD20..

          Specs:
          Driver Size: 40mm,
          Frequency response: 15 - 22 000 Hz,
          Impedance: 32 ohm,
          Maximum power input: 500 mW,
          Sensitivity: 100 dB

Again on paper looks very decent for the price..
And also times and again in this segment of the market we see items that are high priced junk and cheap gems.. really got to check reviews..

        • Trust me, for that price, they blow absolutely everything else out of the water. I actually own all 3 SHP models; the amount of headphones I've bought and ditched over the years would probably have a combined output dB/MW of 10,000.

Headphones come in well-defined price brackets, and anything priced between $30 - 60 dollars can be largely ignored as you're getting the same kinds of drivers used in sub-$30 dollar headphones, dressed up with sexy foam and padding and slightly better build quality.

You need to spend a minimum of $70-100 AUD to get something noticeably better than Philips SHP2000/3000s, like some Senny 280 Pros, UE 4000s, AT ATH-M30s or Sony MDR-7506's.

        • I'd spend a little more and get Samson SR850's.

Just Google the model, they're one of the best cheap open headphones you can get

        • Amar89, I have a pair of Sony MDR CD550s that I bought in about 1988. They're the best headphone I've ever owned, to my ears. Can you recommend a similar closed ear can that I could buy?

  • Cheapest for the item, however not that great of a product itself. I would suggest sticking to Pioneer, Philips (For Budget), and Sony.

But this is a good deal if you need some headphones cheap and ASAP. Good catch OP.

    • Thanks mate..
      I agree..
At about $40+ the choice is wider of course, for example:

      http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Aud…

Cheaper than Dick Smith, etc but Amazon goes better at USD25 + Postage.
Someone said we tend to form a kind of brand loyalty when it comes to audio equipments, and I would often veer towards items made by Audio Technica. When we have more cash to play with, its easier pick and choose..

The context in this thread is different I suppose.. I am still curious as to what other deals out there does better than this…
