Table Vice or Suction Vice $14.99 Each at ALDI (This Saturday 15th February 2014)

430

For the past few years ALDI have released these table and suction vice, and they only do it once a year. Each time they've chosen to do it in February. That time is here again, friends. :)

I guess it says something about me that I consider this the highlight of my February.

Anyway, in the distant past these used to have no branding on the actual units (just branding on the box they come in). The units were left alone and unbranded in the good ol' days. Now the units are branded with WORKZONE. I always prefer no branding but we can't have it all; it just makes me look back on past ALDI unbranded units with more admiration and a heightened sense of unbranded goodness. The quality is the same though.

These are great value for money and endlessly useful. I plan on picking up 4 more this Saturday, since I keep finding more uses for them. The quality is great. The suction vice has a wider mouth than the clamp vice, as well as being useful and more flexible with placement in some cases. Get both :)

Yes, the highlight of February is here.
This Saturday. Don't sleep in. These suction and table vice have been waiting too long for their new owner. That be you.

Lots of other stuff selling at ALDI this Saturday too, but the VICE need you most.

I have plenty of vices already collected in my past years. Ah we'll, one more wouldn't hurt !!??

    • That's the spirit!

    • +8

Same here, I've got the complete Miami collection :P

    • +1

Well, everyone has their vice ;)

  • What can these be used for?

    • +2

Generally vices are used for holding things. You can probably come up with some other creative uses.

or an excuse for "behavior, or habit generally considered immoral, depraved, or degrading in the associated society"

        ;)

    "Table Vice" ?

That was my favourite song in "The Sound of Music"

  • +1

    Devo?
    Grip it real good!

  • +1

So this is the stuff they talk about during Christmas. How can they be selling it in Feb - way too early! Does it come with gold, frankincense and myrrh bearings?

  • Seems a bit shallow… Hoping to put a bracket of a monitor in it

  • +2

I dont always comment, but when I do, thats gotta be one of the funniest post on ozbargain I have seen by far.

Does the suction one hold well? Cant imagine struggling with something stuck or drilling on a suction vice and the suction pop..

To me the torque wrenches are the best deals by Aldi, well worth the wait

    • +1

Go along with the Torque wrench advice. Built 3 motors with mine and still shows as spot on when compared against a Snap-on calibrated one. Was really surprised at the quality for the price.

      Why did I get negged..?

I just wanted to say I appreciate OP sense of humour (the tone of the post made my day), then I ask his opinion on how the product perform and then input some opinion on Aldis other tool deals

      • +1

Not sure who negged you, which is why I upvoted you. OzBargain can be like that sometimes. Thanks for your comment :)

Does the suction one hold well?

Surprisingly well on a smooth surface. These are great for general-purpose work. Obviously when a better vice is called for, a better vice is called for and these won't replace bigger vices made of more durable materials and affixed more robustly, but for what they are, they are very good.

    • I second that, you would be surprised how good the suction is, I have one that I use on a lightly textured Laminate table, sometimes I have to pull the lever twice to get a good grip but once it's stuck it's stuck.

I have even used it as a clamp when when I have run out to hold something is being glued. Can't go wrong for 15 bucks, but the op is right, I kissed this deal at least twice before I found one.

  • Would this be good enough for delidding CPUs?

    • Yeah. The rubber around the jaws would help as well.

I think Tom Cruise climbed up the outside of a Dubai skyscraper with these.

    and for the Victorians…

I think Geoff Shaw is holding onto his position in Parliament with one of these

    • +1

Thanks. Now I know of a practical use, will wait for a airfare deal to Dubai.

      • +1

Why wait for an airline deal? I hear you can use Geoff Shaw's parliamentary car for non-work purposes.

have anybody used this kind of clamp, i mean how good it is

i dont want something like its going to break easily but i dont want to spend too much for a high end type.

i got an experience buying a clamp ( 3 cheapo ) after 1 use all broke .. i rather spend on something good to last like 10 years

    • It's $15. At that price, it's much better than expected. Does it really need to last a decade??

      Horses for courses.

      • I think it will easily last a decade, it's solid steel and iron construction I believe

    • +1

That's my thinking as well: if you're going to buy something, spend the extra money on something good.

I've been looking at getting a vice for some time. Bunnings sell vices for around the $100 mark which is pretty expensive to me. I'll probably get this and try it out and return it if it's crap quality, but for this price, if it breaks in 2 years I'll just go get anothe one :)

    • I would class these vice as good for general purpose work around the house. To me they have been useful for holding various things I'm working on (from soldering to woodwork to general clamping & general placement of reflectors for photos, etc) but I wouldn't use them as a substitute for something more substantial when that is needed. For what they are, they are good value and surprisingly robust. There is often one or more units out of their box in-store so you can get some idea whether they may be good for your purposes, but if you're doing heavy-duty work, you probably need something more substantial.

  • How good has the suction been on the vices in the past?

  • I have both, i prefer the clamp one unless your intended purpose is for lighter objects.

  • what is this 1 day sale stuff? do they just know it will sell out?
i see they had a Wednesday one. but im used to 1-2 week catalogs.
    i dont shop at aldi.

    • They tend to do their Special Offers twice a week. It started a while ago. These items are fairly popular but don't normally sell out in one day, but I guess it depends on your store. I think the chances of getting one after Saturday are pretty likely.

      • My bet is they sell out on the day at most places

  • Choose your vice!

  • appreciate the passion in your post OP :)
What was the highlight in Jan?

    • What was the highlight in Jan?

Aside from Vice Lust, very little, I'm sorry to say. It was entirely forgettable. :(
But a firmer grip on the future is planned.
      ;)

  • FYI these are available on ebay all-year-round.

But this is a good price (IIRC ebay was $25)

    • Yes. Though as you said the price is higher.

      • ….and eBay does not have Aldi's return policy.

  • +2

I just noticed that ALDI have knee pads on sale for $7.99, they might come in handy as well…

    • depends on your choice of vice…

  • Probably a good thing if you are into making models, warhammer parts and figures.
only if I had the time to start on those that I bought 5+ years ago….

  • Buying 4 more, not know why I kept missing these, people buying 4

  • suction vices
I noticed the little rubber pads sitting on the jaw of this vice was too loose (on both my suction vices).

They would slide off when the vice was tilted. It probably could do with some glue or blu-tack in the back. I don't recall coming across this in the past. Seems a tad careless to go out like this.

The other model (the vice that clamps to the edge of the table) is the same as I remember it, though.
All-in-all, a cheap price for some useful tools. Not quite sure why the rubber things would slide off on my suction vice so easily. You'd think they wouldn't want this leaving the factory like this.

Could be a cause for refund for some people for sure.
